  1. Willow, Welcome to the board. You have been given great advice so far. You might want to read Dr. Peter Green's "Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic". He is a leading Celiac expert at Columbia. It is a great book and I wish it was out when I had been diagnosed. Esp as an RN, you will appreciate the thoroughness it goes into and the related disorders, etc...
  2. Lisa, I hope your app't brings you answers. Please keep us updated. Good luck and I hope great things come from this. Laura
  3. Lisa, Agreed. Please, newbies, speak up. Badger us. If we don't respond, post a second post and say, HELP ME. (It will be a slap on the wrist for us). Please feel free to PM any of us. Honestly. If you see something you've read (that say, maybe I posted about), PM me and I'll try and expand. I can almost guarantee that 99% of board members will...

  8. Because peanuts are one of the 8 main allergens, many doctors do not recommend that young children eat them. I have heard both ages 2 and 3 to start introducing. this one says 3: Open Original Shared Link this presents a different side:Open Original Shared Link
  9. lol. yes. I am going to go back in and edit it. You can thank the brain fog for that one.
  10. Welcome to the board! I highly recommend a book by a leading Celiac researcher and physician. Dr Peter Green, "Celiac Disease: A hidden epidemic" It is a good reference and is up to date. I wish I had it when I was first diagnosed! Although the biopsy is the "gold standard" for diagnosing Celiac, it is not always necessary. Just remember that...
  11. Nicole, I will add your student to my prayer list. On behalf of all of us out there whose lives have been touched by a caring teacher/professor/instructor, etc....Thank you. She will forever be grateful to you. Reading your post brought tears to my eyes. Laura
  12. Linda-Probably your best bet, if you aren't getting any hits, is to look up the local GIG or CSA (I think GIG in general is usually better, from my personal experience) where you are going, call them, and ask them for recommendations. They would be the people to know! Laura

    ARCHIVED Professional Dilemma

Wow, Mari-lyn, I don't even know what to say. That is a tough situation. But, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for coming on this board and taking this seriously. Unfortunately, many of us have encountered medical professionals, nutrionists, dieticians, etc that know little to nothing about Celiac, and what they often know is incorrect. (Even this week...
  14. Thanks for the recommendations, Tim! I appreciate it. Because of my other food intolerances and other health issues, I can't eat any of the pre-made gluten free products anymore. (See my signature). The irony is that I finally move to a place with an abundance of gluten free products......and I can't eat them because of their other ingredients. ...
  15. Lisa, I am sorry to hear you are feeling so bad. Ugh! I wish we could put on a hat that says, "I screwed up" and it would make it all go away. You've learned your lesson--and you know it sucks---so why should we have to continue to suffer! Where are you going in VA? You live in NC if I remember correctly. I just moved from VBeach to northern VA and the...
  16. I am not in the area, so I unfortunately cannot help. But, what many have found to be successful is to contact the local GIG, CSA, etc group and ask if they can recommend someone. They would be the ones to know! Hope this helps. Good luck! Laura
  17. lol...so they did the gene testing and you came back negative for DQ2 and DQ8? (Just trying to clarify from previous posts) (By the way-----I am one of those people who say I don't care how you were diagnosed or if you have a diagnosis at all......but if gluten free makes it better, embrace it! So I'm not questioning you ) As Lisa said, welcome...
