  3. There is a great store, but it is a little further south, in Virginia Beach. Navan Foods.
  4. Patti, I love your grandparents!!!! What a great story. I love my grandma dearly...what a great lady....at 88, she can cook AND bake gluten free for me. How awesome is that!
  5. Simply Asia is another option as well.
  6. Happy Birthday, Ken!
  7. See Open Original Shared Link for some info on testing, including IgA deficiency.
  8. You need to be eating gluten for the tests to be accurate. Talk to your doctor about running the full Celiac panel: Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA Total IgA level. 9. From: www.celiacdiseasecenter.columbia.edu (Dr. Peter Green is a leading Celiac researcher/physician.) "Symptomatic, active or classical celiac disease refers to presentations with diarrhea, with or without malabsorption, whereas in asymptomatic or silent celiac disease gastrointestinal symptoms are lacking or not prominent even though extra-intestinal...
  10. You should be ok since you were only gluten free for a week. Return back to a normal, gluten filled diet until the testing is completed. When you meet with your GI doctor, discuss with him/her that you want multiple biopsies taken in multiple places. "at least 4 to 6 biopsy pieces need to be taken" Open Original Shared Link. Too few biopsies can lead...
  11. Ahhhh....my thesis was about adolescents who moved around and how it impacted them. In a nutshell. Wow. If you asked me that a few years ago, I would've rambled on. and on. and on. There's an online copy in case anyone REALLY wants to read it. I'll wait patiently for my message box to blow up with requests for the link. Patiently. And back...
  12. Just for the record, that topic is infinitely more interesting than the thesis I actually wrote. Where were you all when I had to write the darned thing?!!!!
  13. Means I've been sucked into the vortex!
  14. Patti, we have that going on here too. This afternoon it was ridiculous....serious tornado warnings and watches everywhere. Round 2 of storms has rolled in. Yuck! Stay dry.
  15. You have some choices: Go gluten free on your own and not get tested. Don't go gluten free yet, and find a doctor knowledgable about Celiac that will run the bloodwork for you. You can go to your primary care provider and ask for the bloodwork to be run. You must continue eating gluten for testing to be accurate for Celiac. The tests you need to...
  16. Have you tried potatoes at home, that are 100% safe? I wonder if its not potatoes/nightshades, but cross-contamination (gluten) at the fast food places. Whenever you are re-introducing one of these items that you are concerned about, make sure you are eating at home and you are sure that it is gluten free. Only then can you determine if its gluten...
  17. If its just an IgA test, its probably the total IgA. However, that is not a diagnostic test of Celiac, nor it the IgG. Those are generic tests to see if you produce that type of antibody. It is not a Celiac test until they test for tTG IgA, AGA IgA, AGA IgG, EMA IgA, etc. The only specific Celiac test you had done was the tTG test, and in terms of accuracy...
  18. Was merely overlooked. Board is very very busy lately and lots of spam---hard for everyone to keep up. Has since been pinned and can be found at: Open Original Shared Link
  19. Is your IgA test the AGA IgA? Is your IgG test the AGA IgG? Or are they just the total IgA and IgG tests (which I am assuming since he ran an IgM).
  20. Hope this helps. I contacted Unilever in Feb 08. First response (after asking the company's policy) Hello Laura, Thanks for writing! Gluten is found in wheat rye, barley, and oats. Because our products are formulated for use by the majority of our consumers, and not specifically for those on restricted diets, it is possible our product formulations...
  21. Happy, Happy Birthday, Rachel!!!!! xoxo
  22. I'm SO happy that you were able to go, see the store, get good food, and meet the owners. They are so wonderful, and the best part for those with allergies, is that they "get" it---the ingredients, the cross-contact, etc. When your child has such severe reactions as theirs does, they had to learn REALLY quickly. I personally shared with them my favorite...
  23. A belated silly birthday greeting for Nikki!!!!!! Hope your liver recovers We were gone for a long weekend at another wedding---Nikki, I celebrated A LOT in honor of you .
  24. Not ignorant at all!!!!! Open Original Shared Link "In individuals with known selective IgA deficiency and symptoms suggestive of celiac disease, testing with TTG IgG is recommended." Also: Open Original Shared Link "Alternatively, one may screen with IgG anti- EMA or IgG anti-tTG, though these are not widely available." And: Open Original...
