  1. Welcome to the forum. Welcome to a better life. Yes, if you are living the symptoms, the prospects of gluten being the cause are very high. I noticed a marked improvement in the way I felt after about 5 days. Somewhere in my 2nd week I started feeling incredibly good. But then my poisonings have started recurring, so I'm learning the hard way...
  2. If you are in Canada, I've heard there is an easier tax break. In the USA, it would have to be a part of the medical deduction that is allowed. This would mean, first of all, that your medical deduction would be something like 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. Then you would have to take each specific gluten free item and show the difference in...
  3. The worst is yet to come. Fox News ran an article on their website this week regarding gluten free. The tenor of the article was that gluten free is just a fad, a trend. Meanwhile testing in the UK has produced gluten intolerance levels at 1 in 4. I looked on Fox News to see if I could grab that article and didn't see it, but I noticed other articles...
  4. Yeah, I'm learning the hard way - the way I imagine everybody does.... At the end of the day, if you prepare it you can have a high level of certainty... If you don't, well, you don't. What makes me livid.... It is grilled chicken for crying out loud - unflavored grilled chicken, that they put in a package that says gluten free. Maybe I'm just so sensitive...
  5. The product that I have been contaminated with - and I say this after getting the 2nd contamination today (the first time I thought was possibly from something else)- is Tyson's Grilled and Ready Chicken Breast Strips. I'm furious about this, because I had one other brand in my shopping cart but it didn't say gluten free. The list of ingredients was...
  6. Yes, you poke a tiny hole in the large end of the shell with a little tool provided, pour a small amount of water - think 2 ounces or less - in the base of the cooker, put the eggs standing up in a little holder rack with the big part up, turn on and walk away. It basically steams the water out of the base and the eggs turn out beautifully hard boiled within...
  7. Needing a better, quicker, easier way to make portable power food, I ran across the Cuisinart Egg Cooker in my local Bed Bath and Beyond. Cost is $29.99. I was skeptical. Boiling eggs is always hit and miss for me. Too long, they are too hard. Almost impossible to be too short, so usually just too hard most of the time. I bought the egg...
  8. I bloat instantly when I'm contaminated - within 15 minutes. Bloating and constipation seem to be mostly gone in 3-4 days, although I usually feel much better after about 48 hours.
  9. I'm only 1 month in to recovery, but I was severely malnourished - I have no way of knowing if I was more severe than anybody else but I know I have an incredibly high pain threshold and I was reduced to not getting out of bed 2-3 entire days a week. My "repair" seems to be happening at an astronomical pace. Fingernails need to be cut every 2-3 days...
  10. I have to live PERFECTLY for several days in a row, but yes, at that point I feel amazing. Learning to live with the discipline necessary to live that perfectly is my downfall so far in my first month of knowing. The pay off is so incredible though.
  11. Fingernail growth.... Holy cow. My fingernails are going to put me in Guinness Book of World Records. I have to cut them almost every day now. From my picture, you can see I'm bald... I had a hair grow out the middle of my bald head - close down to what used to me my hairline... It grew out, overnight, about 2 inches. I used to cut my fingernails...
  12. Lisa, They are probably cheaper on Amazon - but $29.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond.
  13. Anonymous, I'm glad you are back. The way you left seemed out of frustration, and I can really relate to that. My marriage wasn't strong enough to withstand my inability to find a diagnosis for my problems, and I know I diminished my spouses and childs life because of the pains and discomforts and depressions that I was suffering blindly. I remember...
  14. Well stated!!!!!!!!!! That's what I just encountered upon emailing a restaurant. I got an appropriate response from the GM, then the CEO of the restaurant group wrote back to me a little later and his response made me nervous. He talked about the gluten-free items in a "trendy" context, like low cal or organic context. People can't grasp how little...
  15. Thanks Lisa, I might actually give one of those a try. I will make another post about a product we could all use. I was a skeptic, but bought one, did a batch, and PERFECT!!!! The Cuisineart Egg Cooker. A super easy way to make PERFECT hard, medium, or soft boiled eggs. I did a batch this morning and just had two. They peel super easy, and are...
  16. Thanks guys. It really stinks finding out somebody who know you - knows your character - professes love - and walks away from you when you can't get a medical diagnosis for your crippling condition.
  17. Diana, my WIFE of 20 years divorced me over my made up problems. We had a picture book marriage up until celiac disease took over. She's a senior executive with a Fortune 25 company, if you'd like to know what level of intelligence she has. Not just a MAN thing.

    ARCHIVED Chipotle

Giambi, That stinks, obviously the franchise owner in that area is hands off the day to day operation. The chain is so popular that they must make plenty of money without being a well run operation.
  19. MO, I'm not sure about corn, but definitely rice in some forms gives me all of the gluten symptoms - not necessarily pure rice always - and not necessarily corn, but sometimes yes to both of them. And virtually always to nuts, even though nuts were fine at first. Thanks for the feedback. Trying to stay clear of rice and corn makes a gluten-free life...
  20. A fairly new pain to me, it came in at the very tail end of my undiagnosed life. This is in my side/back. Low down, where I'm assuming my kidney on that side would be. The pain resembles the pain in a pulled muscle. I'm positive it isn't a pulled muscle. Sometimes the pain (or pressure) reduces when I have a bowel movement. The pain seems greater...
  21. I was married to a Redhead when I came down with celiac disease. Coincidence? I think not.
  22. Janet! Great suggestion. I need to try hard boiled eggs. Thanks for that one Lisa, I don't know if I will try to make my own - but I can say I've had a couple of Lara bars that made me question my judgement...
  23. Lisa, Yes - it is funny.... Sitting at my desk and pulling out a chicken breast before going to the gym... People are like...... Um, dude, lunch was a couple hours ago. I'm going to try choco milk today, and then move into protein drinks next week after studying over the weekend. I'm a lover of Lara Bars, but it seems I can't find one without...
  24. So here is my situation. I'm not just celiac, but also affected by rice in many forms. Sometimes pure rice is fine, but often rice flour is a problem. For instance rice puffs like Pirate's Booty make me react. Beers from rice also make me react. Also - nuts make me react. Peanuts and Pistacio's have both caused me to have symptoms recently. Late...
  25. Ocean Spray Cran Apple has become my guilty pleasure, seeing the rest of my guilty pleasures now try to disable me.
