I have different symptoms that are closely related. Bloating is first in all cases. Brain fog is most often 2nd, followed closely be diminished visual acuity. Then, usually several hours later very fatigued and a high level of ache and significant joint pain - like I'm carrying a 100 pound weight on my back. I'm usually constipated through the whole...

ARCHIVED Pirate Booty Cheese Puffs
RonSchon replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wish I'd never heard of it.... When I saw it was gluten-free, I tried it. I get a reaction from it. Must be some other allergy that I have. -
This was in Flagstaff, AZ. Tonight I'm going to write Chipotle corporate and let them know how great the experience was, and how absolutely important it is for us. Having a teenager respond with well trained understanding was so much more than I expected.

So I was stuck out for about 18 hours yesterday, and really needed to get some good food about 12 hours into the day. I thought about my options, and decided on a burrito bowl from Chipotle. While I was standing in line, i thought over and over - do I just order the right/safe ingredients or do I tell her I have celiac disease. There were a lot of...

ARCHIVED I Triede Strella Damm Daura Beer
RonSchon replied to nvsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't tried it since my diagnosis, but I know before I knew that Corona seemed to hurt me as much as Coors Light. I have tried a few gluten-free beers and felt a little bad, so I also wonder if I'm allergic to some other ingredient. I tried Angry Orchard Cider and also felt off. Woodchuck Cider didn't seem to bother me, but its so sweet that I don... -
ARCHIVED New Reactions, Afraid To Eat, Can Anyone Relate?
RonSchon replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sara, in my first couple weeks of knowing, I've been contaminated 3 times. As you alluded, you may have other things that are effecting you - Me too. One thing I'm committed to is whole foods but also local whole foods. Seriously, I want to be able to walk out into the pasture and pick my cow out of the field. Luckily I found an organic grass only... -
ARCHIVED New Reactions, Afraid To Eat, Can Anyone Relate?
RonSchon replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Sara, You aren't alone. I too am going through very similar challenges. In addition to the reality of our condition many of us also are going through the emotional damage of losses due to our inability to get a proper diagnosis. Every time we get a new contamination, we feel the setback physically, mentally, and emotionally. I have so much hope... -
Good point, Mamaw... I didn't get my symptoms as heavily as I have from my other contaminations - enough, bloating was full on, D, and light fog with light eyesight degradation. My previous reactions over the past couple of weeks were much worse. Adalaide, I think the reason they don't go the route of gluten-free is because of shared equipment. The...

I've lost quite a bit, like a lot of you. Career, Wife, child, life that I had built. If I dwell on that, I will be lost. I'm using this as a way of starting over. I recall having a lot of good times when I built my first ME, building my new ME should be even better.

The most frustrating part of being gluten clean is the learning process. I could eat from a very tight menu and be ok, and maybe that is what I'll end up doing. I got hit again last night. It could have only been "Wonderful Pistacios", unless it was some kind of odd cross contact. They say on the packaging, contains no gluten. I know that doesn...

ARCHIVED Why Can't My Body Handle Long Runs?
RonSchon replied to Kat Kuz's topic in Sports and Fitness
Because of how many years my body has not been able to absorb nutrients, my world view of them became "placebo's" I will go out tonight, and find these products. A couple questions... I don't do smoothies.... Can I take them in another form? Is safflower/grapeseed and faxseed oil universally the same potency? Can I take tablets at the ratio... -
ARCHIVED Reactions To Gluten
RonSchon replied to twe0708's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tuesday morning - 2am - I drank a powerade due to dehydration from a run Monday night. Tuesday all day I felt like death warmed over. By the time I got home tuesday afternoon I felt lightheaded, brain fog heavy, eyesight fuzzy, and yes, felt nauseous and thought I was going to vomit for about 2 hours. I'm new to this, and my cross or inadvertent... -
ARCHIVED Why Can't My Body Handle Long Runs?
RonSchon replied to Kat Kuz's topic in Sports and Fitness
I'm rigid, and will forever be now, but my damage was pretty severe - so while also being about 3 weeks clean I feel incredibly improved, but still am having the weeding out of things that should be gluten-free but actually aren't - such as my powerade snafu's. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to do another longer run. Perspective is everything.... ... -
Thanks TT. Have you used the Infinit? I checked out their site, and it looks pretty high tech. I was disappointed not to be able to find a mention regarding gluten. In my short time I've come to appreciate companies that get out in front of that and address it in some fashion.

Thanks Jillian, I don't need much of a push to start drinking chocolate milk.... I am trying to go with a diet that is more like paleo/primal, so the rice is something I'm purposefully trying to avoid. I was out of vegetables, so just went with what I had with the chicken. I had some Gatorade Frost over the weekend, and didn't get zapped by it,...

Last week I felt I must have been glutened by Red Powerade. All back on track this week, felt super strong yesterday so I went to the gym to try and do a 5 miler. I wasn't going to try to set any land speed records, just see how my body felt with a little stress. It felt very good. Went home, cooked a plain chicken breast with a little irish butter...

ARCHIVED Has Anybody Experienced Foot Pain?
RonSchon replied to carteem's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For me, I turned out to have gout - that was diagnosed 17 years ago, about the time I wish I would have been diagnosed with celiac disease. My gout pain is not limited to the big toe, it can be anywhere in my foot, ankle, or knee. The specific pain flares would last anywhere from 2-3 days to as long as 8-10 days. -
Congratulations! As for me, the minute I found out I got angry. No coins needed. I thought my favorite foods were pizza, burgers, and I could name 10 others. The lunch I had today - that is my favorite lunch. It's the lunch that 10 minutes after eating I feel strength instead of drowsiness.

ARCHIVED Magic Bullet For Better Absorption
RonSchon replied to Silencio's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Great, I'll keep an eye on the thread and see if after a couple of weeks you feel it is a benefit to you. It makes sense that a puree would be easier to absorb, but I don't know the workings of the body well enough to know if it matters. -
ARCHIVED When Was Your Celiac Triggered?
RonSchon replied to Victoria6102's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was 30, out of the blue two separate things happened... I started gaining weight uncontrollably, and started having occasional bouts of Gout. Weight, low energy, and constipation simply became the reality of my life. Then, when I was about 45 the symptoms increased to include joint pain, back/kidney area pain, brain fog, and reduced vision acuity... -
Janet, Thanks for the response. Ron

ARCHIVED Refreshingly Free
RonSchon replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just went to Sprouts, and as I was walking in I remembered I needed some hand soap and skin lotion/moisturizer. I figured, Sprouts... no problem, I'll find several choices. 30 minutes later, googling tons of individual brands, and couldn't find a single one that was marked gluten-free, or it's website gave any sort of assurances for. After my poisoning... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Beer
RonSchon replied to nvsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried Angry Orchard - the Traditional Dry - It was ok, but had a little bit of an after taste that didn't quite taste right. I liked Wood Chuck, that I tried a last week, but it was awful sweet. I saw RedBridge at Sprouts, but didn't get any. I'm starting to wonder if there isn't something in both beer and cider that I'm reacting to, or just... -
ARCHIVED Magic Bullet For Better Absorption
RonSchon replied to Silencio's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I have to say I'm only 2 weeks in, but I have a concern in the back of my mind that I'm going to be a year gluten free and still not absorbing. The basic question you pose suggests that possibly your body can't break down food, but if given the food in finer form it might not have to work so hard to absorb the nutrients out of it. It's a logical...
