It is ironic, because I had the very same thought - since before when I was very ill I was ingesting so much gluten without know it was the cause, now gluten free how would I know if I had a single product with a trace ingredient that is gluten related. The answer for me was loud and clear last week. I might as well had a deep dish pizza and a piece of...

I know I'm very new, so this topic may have been raised ad nauseum before... but here goes. As I'm embracing the new lifestyle I need to live, I am spending hours researching my next steps. I believe my next step is migrating towards something that is mostly Paleo/Primal. I know there are other places that cover P/P exclusively, and I've visited...

ARCHIVED Fell Off, Now To Get Back On!
RonSchon replied to raea2002's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The brain fog is so powerful a motivator for me, I know I'll never knowingly ingest gluten again. I think of it like Irish as well, poison. I've heard drug addicts tell me how glorious a cocaine binge can be, and I've never been tempted because I know where that goes for so many people. Gluten is just as dangerous for me. -
Hi Tex, I'm newer than you to knowing - I just found out on July 2nd - and I'm super vigilant as I was in super bad shape - I had missed a whole week of work from just not being able to get out of bed, and constipation that hurt with every waking moment. Flash forward to July 9th - felt great, best in years - by the eve of the 10th I was heading downhill...

ARCHIVED Hot Enough For You?
RonSchon replied to Darn210's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's funny living in Phoenix.... Our temp is hotter at 6:30am when I go to work than most everybody gets all day. My car, while sitting at a stop light the other day, told me it was 130 - must have been getting heat off the pavement. Air temp was only 117. It's usually 90-95 when I head to work. -
ARCHIVED Movies You Can't Wait To See?!
RonSchon replied to ~**caselynn**~'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I saw Savages last weekend. It was not too bad. Flight looks good. Still have to see Ted. No interest in Magic Mike.... -
ARCHIVED Joining The Cdf
RonSchon replied to ~**caselynn**~'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Go out to their site and choose the option along the top called "local support" and send an email to the representative in your area and see what they have to say... At least that's what I'm going to do and see what kind of response the person gives me. -
ARCHIVED Why Can't My Body Handle Long Runs?
RonSchon replied to Kat Kuz's topic in Sports and Fitness
Robert, I'm chomping at the bit to get where you are. I might be able to make it through a 10 miler, but it will wreck me for 2-3 days. I hope I can get back there again, I will respect the run like never before if I can get her back... -
I'm going to watch King Corn this weekend, thanks for that. I saw it show up on my Amazon Prime list recently. Ron

ARCHIVED Powerade
RonSchon replied to RonSchon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did have the red one on the day in question. It was about 36 hours of heavy discomfort, joint pain, mental fog, and reduced vision, but today I'm coming back. -

ARCHIVED Powerade
RonSchon replied to RonSchon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had gotten a case at Sam's before I was diagnosed. It's the grape, blue, and red ION4 case. I found something on another site that was dated 2012 that showed ION4 all flavors were safe. But yes - in my searches I did find previous postings that only those 2 flavors were gluten-free. I am one of the people allergic to artificial sweeteners - so no... -
I've done a lot of searching, both on the web and through this forum regarding Powerade. My challenge is that somehow I was glutened. I returned to the gym this week finally, and after my workouts I drank powerade. On Wednesday I started to bloat and constipate. Today was really painful, I could barely make it through my work day. Naturally, I...

I've read a plethora of supporting posts about Culturelle, so I started taking that 10 days ago. I don't know if it is helping anything or not - I'm new to celiac disease, so my input might not be relevant. Still constipated.

With several allergy's in addition to celiac disease, you probably have to stick to specialty restaurants to be safe. The turnover and training issues at larger establishments will always make cross contact a real possibility.

Definitely give "Tread Lightly" a try, it's good. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Constipated
RonSchon replied to jenhunter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with what you are saying Jen, and I'm only 10 days in - but it is 100% for those 10 days, not 99.9%. I would hope that things would start moving more regularly, but recognize that the intestinal villi take time to heal. I'll be waiting at least 4 months before I start changing my approach. I drink a lot of water, and have a lot of food that... -
ARCHIVED New Planet
RonSchon replied to RonSchon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ok.... New Planet Ale's They make 3 labels right now - a light, clean beer - Tread Lightly, a very similar brew with a fruity flavor - 3R Raspberry, and something a little heavier which I didn't buy. I liked the Raspberry, but the flavor was a little over-powering. Tread Lightly is pretty darn good. Non-News Flash.... Expensive. Champagne... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Beer
RonSchon replied to nvsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought a 4 pack of New Planet - well, several.... - but at $7 a 4 pack, what would you call expensive for the Original Sin? -
ARCHIVED New Planet
RonSchon replied to RonSchon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My 17 year old daughter is thinking of CSU - but might do Metro State for a year first. Small worlds. -
I'm going to go get a 6 pack of New Planet gluten-free beer after work tonight. I'll report back here tonight on my opinion. I'll see if they will let me do a split 6 pack so I can get 2 of each flavor. Has anybody else tried it? They are all gluten-free, and brewed in Ft Collins Colorado which is a haven for microbrews.

ARCHIVED Don't Know What To Do ?
RonSchon replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
'GFinDC', Thanks for your input. Yes, just 10 days so far, so still having issues - constipated the past 2 days. Was painful last night, but had some movement this morning. I purchased some sub-lingual B12 last week and have been taking that daily since but still don't get any boost at all. At that time I also purchased some Culturrelle Probiotic... -
Googles, I'm only guessing, but my guess is something like a resident coordinator at an assisted living facility - or something along that line. It isn't like you applied to be a food tester at a bread company. I would imagine if you are expected to eat alongside the "inmates", it is probably for their comfort level. Bigbird wrote the text book...

I know my advice is probably outside the basic parameter of the question, but being a newly diagnosed celiac disease and having my wife of 17 years divorce me because I was always tired and sick, you need to fix Mr. Boyfriend right now, or get rid of him. We live with an INCREDIBLE amount of stress, or at least I do. I need somebody that likes me enough...

The following link will give you a list of Gastroenterologist Doc's in and around Mobile, and their office numbers. If nobody responds with specific information I'd just recommend finding ones close to you and start calling and seeing what their receptionist says. Open Original Shared Link
