  1. I had read on an on-line product list that Claratin was no longer Gluten Free. I would be absolutely thrilled if I could still take it, as its the only thing that keeps my nose from running. Sudafed makes me all jittery. Elonwy
  2. Jack in The Box fries are dipped in batter. Elonwy

    ARCHIVED Awareness

Sofar, I write alot of emails. And made alot of phone calls. Currently its to manufacturors, asking about produts, asking them if they can make product lists, blah, blah. It's for me trying to figure out if I can have thier stuff or not, but I figure, the more people contact them, the more they'll want to do something to help us. Maybe. I talk to everyone...
  4. Yup. me too. Elonwy
  5. I ordered it online from a place called russells. I didn't like it that much and am trying to give four bottles of it away. Its got a head on it that won't quit too, took me ten minutes to pour it in a glass. I think "beer people" will like it, but its a little too bitter for me. I got my rum and midori and my apple cider. I'm good Elonwy
  6. Usually the clear noodles are made from bean thread or sometimes rice. I always ask, because it really depends from manufacturor to manufacturor if they are purely bean thread or have other stuff added. Elonwy
  7. Just so its all very clear - I was never trying to justify - just add perspective. Part of the problem is, we look at celebrities and think they should be better people because they are famous. Alot of them are, and use their power for good. Alot of them aren't. They're just people. People who are famous for pretending to be something they're not. Think...
  8. Doctor's can be shmucks. Instead of waiting the month to follow-up on my biopsy I have just gone Gluten Free because I got sick of waiting for my doctor who was hemming and hawing about what could be wrong, how "bad" I have it, which is crap, there is no such thing as " well I have a little bit of celiac". Depending on how long its been going on, there...
  9. It's a disgusting business. People get married to prove they aren't gay, or for publicity. And the ones that come clean about drugs and stuff, or cause scenes, they get publicity, but after a while, they don't get as much work. And its not so much about making lots of money, its about working at all. Once you get to "A" list , then you can come out with...
  10. The Burger king across the street from my work has a huge poster on the wall listing all thier ingredients and allergens. I have only ordered french fries, after discussing dedicated fryers with the manager. I'm also going to check every time I go that they didn't fry anything else in there that day. Not that I go to BK often, but every now and then I gotta...

    ARCHIVED Acid Reflux

I also , began the diagnosis journey with Acid Reflux which dissappeared (crossed fingers) a couple days ago. I was on Nexium and then Aciphex, both which did nothing, which is part of what led me, finally to celiac disease. Now I am on Prevacid ( which helped) but will stop that in a few days. I am on the Prevacid because they found Ulcers while they...

    ARCHIVED Insomnia

I take Sonata, which is not habit forming. I only started having insomnia when my celiac disease symtoms started back when I was diagnosed with "stress". Halfway through my first week on gluten-free diet I started sleeping on my own. This weekend I had to take one because my insomnia was back ( I got glutened friday and felt crappy all weekend.) Sofar I...
  13. I actually refuse to enter Walmart. My mom lives in a small town in Hawaii where a Walmart recently opened. They pay thier employees minimum wage, treat them horribly ( has anyone else noticed the number of lawsuits?) and there are Mom-n-Pop stores in thier 4th generation that are going out of business. Also, whenever I'm in any store like that ( Kmart, etc...
  14. After looking at the lists of everyone's intolerances, I agree with you Merika. Bring stuff or not bring stuff and bring an ingredients list. lol. On a side note I have 4 bottles of Bard's beer if anyone wants it. I was excited and ordered it online and its alright beer, but it's a little too beer-like for me. Does that make sense? I'm going to stick to...
  15. My bf only got one wrong ( he thought something had gluten that didn't ) I'm so proud ! Thanks for that, it was a fun exercise for us. Elonwy
  16. Chinese food is a difficult one. Thai is much easier, as they tend to put less soy sauce on stuff. Pick up Stix has a gluten-free menu and some of their stores have gluten-free soy sauce ( not all though - the one I went to was out). My safe bet was steamed veggies with white or brown rice. Most Chinese sauces are not safe. Pick up Stix also cleans thier...
  17. I'm down with all that. Maybe a little earlier like 1pm. Of course now we have to discuss food. All of my attempts at baking sofar have been... amusing. I used to be the girl that would always bring the apple pie. Could everyone list thier other allergies/intolerances too? I can't do milk, but am fine with other dairy, and can't eat eggs, but can eat things...
  18. I sent a big email to starbucks, so we'll see what they say about those drinks. My favorite has always been the unfortunately seasonal peppermint mocha. Fabulous drink. mmmm chocolate. Elonwy
  19. We could do a picnic at Griffith too. I vote for any weekend after the 21st. Or we could do gluten-free potluck. I think considering the reason, there should be food My place is rediculously tiny, so I won't offer . I'm in. Elonwy
  20. Yeah we do seperate utensil drawers, lots of tin foil on everything, and we don't share drinks or food when he's eating gluten. The kissing thing is really hard- cause we're a very snuggly couple. My bf is changing his lip balm to gluten-free too ( he doesn't wear lipstick ;P ) to make it easier. I also use a new utensil for everything, just to be super-careful...
  21. I can't do Splenda. My GI actually told me that it irritates anyone with IBS-like syptoms, and when I have anything with Splenda in it I get horrible tummy cramps and sweats. Splenda kind of freaks me out anyway. Anything where Chlorine is used in manufacturing it is just weird, I don't care if they say its safe. Milk or new cheese also sets me off ( Casien...
  22. When I had my biopsy I was also diagnosed with Duodenal ulcers, which can cause the gnawing hungry feeling, which I was having. After the first week of Antibiotics, the gnawing hole sensation went away. Might be something to look into. Elonwy
  23. The brain fog is the thing I hate most about this. When I get it I feel like I'm detached from everything and don't really know what's going on. Were you eating out? Hamburgers can be made with fillers like bread crumbs, and if they took the bun off, instead of never putting it on in the first place that could be your source. If you're eating at home, then...
  24. It takes time and patience. It's still freaking my bf out, but I'm just patient with him. We went through the whole kitchen - I told him "keep what you want, i'm giving the rest away." We divided up the shelves so his foods on one side and mine is on the other 2 shelves. When I cook - I cook gluten-free - if he wants to eat at home, he eats what I cook...
  25. I couldn't find information on the gluten-free status of Valtrex anywhere, so I called GSK and they verified that currently all the starches used in manufacturing Valtrex are Corn and Potatoe based so its gluten-free! Thought I'd post this in case anyone else wanted the info. Elonwy
