I agree that you have to heat everything, but i find the Food4LIfe stuff inedible. My new Fav is the Kinnikinick Brown Rice Bread, I never ate white bread before, feels wierd to do it now. When making a sandwich to go I throw it in the toaster oven on low, then make a sammich. It holds together, has good texture and flavor. Expensive though. The whole foods... -

ARCHIVED Tobacco Use
elonwy replied to Jenn2005's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been researching tobacco papers, and I have found that most paper is processed with wheat, so though the tobacco itself may be gluten-free it is very likely the paper is not. I have experienced bloating sensations after smoking, ( I have the occasional roll-your-own) and have ceased because of the gluten-ish symptoms I was getting and have yet to find... -
ARCHIVED Missing My Italian Food!
elonwy replied to jrom987's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I made lasagna with DeBoles rice lasagna noodles and no one could tell the difference. My BF ate three helpings! Thier corn noodles are kinda wierd. I made thier corn noodles and they came out with this fuzzy film on em. bleeegh. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Food Allergen Labeling Bill
elonwy replied to lbarton's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From wikipedia: For example, maltodextrin is a moderately sweet polysaccharide used as a food additive, unrelated to barley malt. It is produced from corn starch and is usually found as a creamy white hygroscopic powder. Maltodextrin is easily digestible, being absorbed as rapidly as glucose. The CAS number of maltodextrin is 9050-36-6. From wheat-free... -

ARCHIVED Gf Cold Cereals
elonwy replied to aldociao's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Aren't Kraft marshmallows gluten-free? Yeah, I'm still trying to find a gluten-free cereal I like, its about the only thing I haven't replaced completely to my satisfaction. The envirokids stuff isn't doing it for me. I've got some Arrowhead Mills Buckwheat flakes that are ok, but have a slightly odd taste. Elonwy -
I also bough the Gluten Free Bible, it was before I found this site. I'm sorry I got it. I have Wheat Free, Worry Free by Donna Korn on order. I have heard nothing but good about it. I want to add a caution about inaccuraccy on the GFB, that the translations on the internation dining cards included are not always accurate. I have a friend that's french,...

ARCHIVED Mysteriously Glutened By Amy's Kitchen?
elonwy replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got really sick from the mac n cheese a while back too, and stay away fom it now. I still eat the rice bowls, but stay away from all the other stuff. I hafta have some packaged foods, to deal with lunches, I just can't get myself together enough to make lunches, wish I could, but its one of those things I've given up on for now. And the rice bowls are tastey... -
I bought a copy, its awesome. In the regular thanksgiving section there is a polenta and sausage stuffing recipe that looks fantabulous, and gluten-free if you get gluten-free suasage. I think that will be my stuffing this year. Elonwy

I want to second the Thai Kitchen mention earlier. Great thing about the noodle bowls and noodles carts is you don't need a microwave, all you need is a water cooler with a hot water spigot. I love these things. If you have heartburn issues though I would recommend not using the entire spice packet to start out, especially on the garlic ones. they're good...

ARCHIVED Could It Be Because I Have Celiac?
elonwy replied to cookiedog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Brain fog was what drove me back to the doctors over and over, even more than other symptoms and what kept me pushing to find out what was wrong, even when they said it was in my head. You'll be amazed at how good the gluten-free diet can make you feel, and I wouldn't eat gluten voluntarily now, just cause I can think and talk and do stuff again. You have... -

Open Original Shared Link In the health and wellness section they have lists of gluten free, casien free, egg free, you name it. They don't use wheat flour to dust thier lines. ( I just spoke to them about 20 minutes ago) I eat the Frito-Lay products that are on thier lists. Since they don't use wheat flour to dust, and they clean the lines between runs... -

I don't have endometriosis, but I do take the pill (Ortho Novum 7/7/7) because without it I can't live a normal life. I have crippling periods that last a minimum of 7 days and make me unable to work or ineract with society because of pain. I've been on the pill since I was 14 because I started passing out at school. Over the years I've tried other pills... -
ARCHIVED Albertson's Rocks

I was in the Albertsons near me today, in the health/diet food aisle, and I found Tinkyada pasta. I was so excited. I went and found a Manager and held up the bag and said thank you so much for carrying this, you don't know what it means to me. He was very pleased and said that they had just redone the aisle yesterday, and this was a new product for them... -
Thats brilliant, I'm going to go buy a copy, then email them saying I bought a copy just because of that. Maybe if enough people do, they'll do it more. We're getting more and more mainstream. Good stuff. Elonwy

ARCHIVED Amc Theater Movie Nachos
elonwy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just was struck with this, going to a movie tonight. The tostitos chips and cheese dip is gluten-free, does anyone know if the movie nacho kit is. They prolly wouldn't list it on thier lis cause they don't sell it to us, they sell it to AMC. Just wondering if anyone researched this yet? I'll call on MOnday if not, but it would be so cool if I could have... -
Thank you guys for all your support. I still freaked out on my bf a little bit before everyone showed up cause the meatballs didn't go as well as I hoped. He's so patient with me. I'm not sure if I really like the amaranth flavor, I have to say. The meatballs also really didn't stick together as well, more like meat chunks, but people liked them, and I...

I wonder if they are using powdered wasabi and Reconstituting it, because i still have yet to find a supplier of Wasabi paste that adds anything that could be considered a risk. Even the food coloring in the fake stuff is artifical and lists the dye numbers. I'm not arguing against that everyone should always ask, I just haven't come across this yet. I ask...

elonwy replied to jmarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Dealt with major health issues for a year, headaches, insomnia, brain fog, gastro upset, D, C, missed work like crazy, felt exhausted all the time, doctors told me it was in my head. I read the August issue of Fitness, which had an article about Celiac and lied to my doctor to make him test me, I told him I had family history. The November issue of Fitness... -

The thing with the sesame seeds is sometimes they use a seasoned sesame mix, and if it a dry shake-on type thing and its japanese its 90% of the time going to have wheat in it. Where are you finding that Wasabi is made with wheat? Perhaps you mean the imitation wasabi? There is alot of that, especially in the non-traditional restaurants and fast-foody sushi...
