I'm not sure what I could have had. I've been being so careful. I went out thurs night, and had a baked potato with sour cream and some steamed veggies. I didn't even have the butter. Other than that I had kinikkinick English muffins for breakfast and an Amy's indian meal for lunch. There was a party at work with cake, but I just ate my lunch right before...

ARCHIVED Who's In Their 20's?
elonwy replied to GlutenFreeStudent's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm 27, in SoCal and found out last month that I have celiac disease. We're meeting up on the 3rd ( like 5 of us) if you're down in the area. There are also a few people on here from NoCal too. If my friends can't deal with my needs they can bite me. The cool thing about being in Cali is that there are so many weirdo's here ( including myself ) that not... -
ARCHIVED Company Statements
elonwy replied to laurelfla's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tossed all my wooden and plastic stuff and cleaned my kitchen within an inch of its life. Still have a bf with GLuteny food, but he's super-paranoid about making me sick. I'm still getting sick too, I'm not sure what's doing it. I'm horrendousy paranoid right now, expecially since I've been getting tastes of how it feels to feel good again. That particular... -
ARCHIVED Question For The Non-celiac Spouses...
elonwy replied to frenchiemama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
THe first day of the diet I declared that I would only cook one meal and if he wanted to eat some he could and if not he could fend for himself. Seeing that he only can cook two dishes ( though very good ones) he's been fine with that. My first meal was terrible, but he ate every bite even when I didn't. He doesn't eat my special cookies or bread stuff though... -
I had my first really horrid reaction ( besides the bakery episode with bf's mom's bf) this last weekend. I was at a bbq my boss does every year, that itself was cool, the cook she hired was actually gluten-free and made me little seperate food in tin foil on the grill that kicked butt, and my boss actually called me that morning to read me the ingredients...

Had Amy's Rice Mac & cheese ( microwave) with black pepper and red rooster hot sauce. Within about ten minutes I was naseous and had stomach pain, then was throwing up in the bathroom and had terrible gas. Still have bad cramping, and am really tired, but the barfing is done thankfully. So what made me sick? I had the same dish two weeks ago and was...

ARCHIVED Pop-secret Microwave Popcorn
elonwy replied to HAPPY DOG SUZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do not believe the Smart Balance Microwave popsorn is gluten-free. THey would not confirm, and when I ate it anyway I got pretty sick. According to the Delphi lists, All ORville except the Caramel pour-on or the BBQ kind is gluten-free. All ACT II is gluten-free. All JIffy POp and JOlly Time is gluten-free. HTH Elonwy -
I used to be crazy energy girl went to the gym 5 days a week and swimming class before I started getting really sick. I didn't lose weight when I got sick, kinda the opposite I got this weird puffy water-like weight gain that wouldn't go away. I've lost the poofed out belly and the puffyness and went back to the gym for the first time on Monday. Did 25 minutes...

Every month on the last Thursday we have a staff meeting where they provide water and Subway Cookies. The last one I went to I brought some Whole Foods Pecan cookies, which were ok, but kinda dry and I was sad. This time I have Kinnikinick chocoalte chip cookies. I have this engineer guy that I work with who I joke with alot, I'm just one of the guys, etc...

ARCHIVED "you Might Be A Celiac If....."
elonwy replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I just about peed myself reading all these. I have a couple: You might be a celiac if ... you've ever blamed a fart on the cat. ... the family joke invovles barking spiders. ( my uncle told me that the noises I would hear were caused by barking spiders. They've lived in every house my family was ever in, and have followed... -
ARCHIVED Oatmeal Substitute?
elonwy replied to gymnastjlf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Corn meal can make a good hot breakfast. It's kind of like cream of wheat in size, but not runny. Well it can be runny, I just don't make it that way. Sort of like eating hot corn bread thats all mushed up. I like it, especially with a little butter and honey. There is also grits, which I love ( not all grits are gluten-free!) with a little shredded cheese... -
I've been on the pill for a long time. It can take anywhere up to a year for your cycles to adjust after going off (or on) hormonal birth control. This could be competely normal, or it could be a sign of something more serious. I would definitely discuss it with your Gyno. Elonwy

ARCHIVED Los Angeles, Ca Meeting - Summer 2005
elonwy replied to Merika's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I sent Emails to FoodsByGeorge, Pamela's and kinnikinick. It's pretty close to the date, so we'll see what happens. I'll ID you tarnalberry I'm excited about this. If this all works out and we do it again, I don't see why a teenager can't come. With parental approval and all, blah blah. But it's Merika's house, so she should probably make that... -
Man that will make me so happy if I can work that out. Their food is soooo good, and I know their fries are ok, its just potatoes, and they don't do other fried food. Yeah their shakes are awesome too. If I hadn't just had dinner, I'd be there right now. Yummmmy. Elonwy

My prob with In & Out is that they toast the buns on the grill next to the burgers. I went there ( not the one by me) totally excited to have a protein style burger and left because you can see everything where they are cooking and the grill was covered in buns. Its always so busy that I didn't feel like asking them to clean a part of the grill to cook...

I find the most atkins-diet like thing on the menu and DISCUSS. I found that if I pick a couple things on the menu that look safe before talking to the waiter then I get a better response than " what on your menu can I eat?" Also, if the celiac/gluten intolerance spiel doesn't get you anywhere I was really successful with "I'm allergic to all grains, don...

elonwy replied to grantschoep's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

Envirokids makes rice bars, kinda like rice krispy treats with a health kick. I like the chocolate ones, they can be a fun difference. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Aching Bones
elonwy replied to swittenauer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My aches and pains were so constant I thought it was just part of being human. I asked my bf a couple months ago ( b4 diagnosis) if he hurt all the time. He said no. I started to ask more people and realized it wasn't normal at all. Everything felt bruised all the time. Today was my first complete day with no muscle pain, no fatigue, no brain fog, no headache... -
ARCHIVED Los Angeles, Ca Meeting - Summer 2005
elonwy replied to Merika's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm down with the free samples. I'll call a couple places, if someone else wants to pick another couple. There's four of us, so maybe four places? Did anyone want my Bards Beer? Elonwy -
I had an appendectomy when I was 14, because of debilitating stomach cramps and fever. Nothing was found to be wrong with my appendix. No tonsil problems. Elonwy
