ARCHIVED Wheat Germ Oil In Burts Bee's Res-q Ointment...
Rachel--24 replied to tiffjake's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldnt worry about using it unless you have DH. Just dont use it on your hands or anywhere where there might be a chance it could get into your mouth. I got sick from whaet germ oil because it was in my lotion and I was preparing my food with it on my hands. -

ARCHIVED Anyone Doing Scd?
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I decided yesterday to go off the SCD because my worst problems are from dairy and salicylates. Most of the food on SCD I cant have like yogurt, almonds, most fruits, some veggies, fruit juice, eggs, etc. Theres just not enough for me to choose from. I do better on rice then most fruits. Grape juice would kill me. I've nevr eliminated my biggest offenders... -
ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?
Rachel--24 replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Berneses, I had my fillings removed 2 years ago cuz I freaked out about mercury when i started researching my symptoms and read about it. It didnt change anything for me so will have to wait and see what the test results say. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Doing Scd?
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Dani, I agree with what you're saying. Smaller meals are better for digestion...period. My whole life I've eaten huge meals and maybe it worked for me because I had a fast metabolism with the overactive thyroid but now I dont have a thyroid and the big meals are too much for my digestive system. I was eating a ton of chicken and it was becoming obvious... -
Soy is ok....some people avoid it because they have a seperate intolerance to it. From a gluten standpoint soy is safe. Most soy sauce contains wheat so unless you can find a soysauce w/out wheat (there are some brands) it is not safe.

ARCHIVED Blood Test Questions
Rachel--24 replied to mwilliams34's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The tests arent 100% reliable and you didnt get the full Celiac panel as far as the bloodtests go. You could also have a gluten intolerance that isnt Celiac. Gluten intolerance can cause the same symptoms as Celiac and still cause damage to tissue. Also if you limited your diet prior to testing or went off gluten for any amount of time...that could skew the... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Saliva Test?
Rachel--24 replied to Green12's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Julie, I know what you mean about the big allergens causing more problems. How long have you been avoiding everything? I'm just wondering if you've gotten any better strictly avoiding the big offenders or have you not been doing that 100%? I just realized dairy and soy to be problems for me 2 weeks ago. -
I had hyperthyroid (Graves) and had radioactive iodine treatment to basically destroy my thyroid. I officially went Hypo 2 months after the procedure when my TSH was 25.5. I went on Levothroid and my numbers have been normal for 3 years now. I take Armour instead of synthetics now. After I went Hypo I lost 25 lbs. which had me really confused but apparantly...

ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?
Rachel--24 replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Judy, I think I wasnt healing because I had dairy in my system pretty much everyday. I wasnt aware that it was making me sick. I still go to the clinic. The antibiotics for the bacteria didnt change anything as far as my symptoms. I went to a new GI...he said the bacteria could have been overgrown but NOT causing me any illness. He said since nothing... -
ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?

Mookie, I didnt get tested recently. I've been sick for several months now....like if I was eating gluten still. It just took me awhile to figure out it was from the casein. There is no way its just a lactose problem for me...the symptoms are the same as before I went gluten-free and I dont feel like I've healed much at all. My Enterolab test for casein... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Saliva Test?
Rachel--24 replied to Green12's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you've been gluten-free for 2 years there's really no test you can take at this point. I dont know anything about a saliva test. The only tests for diagnosing Celiac are bloodtests and biopsy. The stool test (Enterolab) can diagnose a gluten intolerance but not specifiaclly Celiac. Since you've been on the diet have you ntoiced improvement? Are... -
ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?
Rachel--24 replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mookie, In my case before I went gluten-free I had a ton of fluid retention. I could easily gain 8 lbs. of just fluid in one day. When I went on the diet I think I had to pee so frequently because I started losing the fluid. There was so much fluid it was actually hiding my weight loss so people didnt notice how skinny I got until after I started the diet... -
Thats exactly what I was telling myself too...that it was only lactose intolerance and it would go away with healing. I knew it was a problem from symptoms and food diary as well. Food diaries really do work when nothing else does. It takes a looong time to see the pattern but its there and I'm glad I kept the journals. So it really can take weeks...

Awww...Bummer. Happy Birthday though!!! Hope you enjoy the day...even if you cant have the ice-cream.

Thanx. Right now I'm still having alot of sensitivities and a very sensitive tummy so I'm sticking to a bland diet till it gets better. I'll definately be looking for some desert recipes (hopefully soon). I'm getting some good ideas right now so at least I have something to look forward to.

ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?
Rachel--24 replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Judy, I've noticed that since I've *stopped* having dairy I'm having to race to the bathroom constantly. I'm urinating very frequently and can't hold it for very long. Had a few near misses. This happened to me when I first went gluten-free also. I wonder what thats all about? -
You're right...its so easy to forget how bad things were once we start feeling a little better. I had the opposite experience when I indulged in eating the whole block of cheese. I had "C" really bad. Its been 3 weeks since I ate the cheese and I'm still having problems with C. I also had cottage cheese a few times as well. Is it normal to have problems...

Thanks for all the suggestions and moral support! I wonder why so many of us are casein intolerant? I never imagined it could be this bad....I really felt like something was seriously wrong with me. Hopefully I will continue to improve and theres nothing else going on. I wasnt even posting very much since I found out about the casein...I think I was...

I think the cravings will probably subside with time. I'm not as worried about giving up cheese so much as stuff like ice cream, starbucks and whip cream. For some reason I've been completely obsessed with whip cream since going gluten-free. My doctor did tell me to avoid dairy for 6 months but I was eating things that didnt have obvious dairy and I was getting...

I thought about this. I think I have great willpower though. I thought I could never quit smoking and I did it...I've never cheated since going gluten-free...I *think* I could do one ice-cream every few months as a treat. If it caused me alot of grief it wouldnt be worth it.... if its gonna be like a glutening then forget it. I'm just wondering if anyone...

I've just recently discovered I'm casein intolerant. To me its WAY worse than going gluten-free. I love dairy more than any other food....I'm a total addict. Anyways the dairy, even in tiny amounts (such as in supplements) has really caused me problems the past year. I think its the main reason I never recovered even with being very strict on the gluten...

ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?
Rachel--24 replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mookie, I hope you continue to do well with the dairy. Not to put a damper on things but just to warn you casein intolerance usually causes delayed reactions. Many times I thought I was ok with dairy but my reactions always came....just not until the next day....or sometimes a few days later. I didnt even figure out I was casein intolerant until...
