  1. Well because I'm sensitive to salicylates I got a bad reaction from the carrots. They arent extremely high in salicylates but not low either. I thought I was doing ok cuz I didnt react the first few days but it caught up to me. I was even starting to think maybe I'm not really intolerant of salicylates. Well...the accumulative affect of about 12 lbs of carrots...
  2. It *should* be casein free. The kind I buy states that it is free of casein but like Tiffany said...maybe there is one tiny molecule of casein leftover. I kind of doubt it though. I think its safe.
  3. Yeah...this is what I believe too. Its all about the balance...or should I say disruption of the balance. My doctor seemed really pleased that I'm doing SCD....he doesnt want me adding new foods in yet though. Not only does the diet take away their food supply but not eating the foods we're reacting to takes some stress off the immune system and it can...
  4. Patti, I'm not really sure how long it takes...or if you'll notice anything at all. I guess it all depends on whats going on in the intestinal tract. I took probiotics all last year and especially while I was on the candida diet but then when I had my stool test it showed no acidophilus or bifidus strains were found. I had dysbiosis. Now that I found...
  5. Thanks. It boggles my mind how I can rememeber all this stuff but cant remember the simple stuff...like what day of the week it is. I guess my mind just focuses on what it wants to and the rest of the time I'm in a fog.
  6. I did the Great Smokies test last year it was the Comprehnsive Digestive Stool Analysis (CDSA)...checks for parasites and other stuff. No parasite was found that time but the results showed I had disbyosis. I redid the test recently (different lab) and was found to have C.Diff. This is what my doctor says about parasites. He says they are everywhere and...
  7. When my cat was just a small kitten he suddenly lost all of his hair. The vet said maybe he was allergic to corn. I dont really remember what we did back then but his hair grew back and never fell out like that again. Its been like 12 years and now I'm thinking the food allergy or whatever it is never really went away. My cat throws up all the time...its...
  8. Yup...and when those starches and sugars dont get broken down and digested they ferment and become food for the bacteria and yeast.
  9. You're doctor is ordering all the right bloodtests...unfortunately for you its 2 years too late. Did you tell him you'd been off gluten 2 years? If he's saying this wont afect the tests...he's not very informed at all. I think its pretty pointless for you, at this point, to back on gluten. No test is going to come back positive with a short gluten challenge...
  10. Before I started the diet I was having loose stools now I'm more C but still going everyday. The soup tastes better when you cook with the skin on but I'm sensitive to chemicals (salicylates & amines) so I have to get skinless.
  11. I believe the people who have posted that they are casein intolerant and not lactose intolerant were just pointing out that they are two seperate conditions. You can be casein intolerant and not have lactose intolerance...but of course you still cant eat dairy. You can have lactose intolerance and not be casein intolerant in which case you could eat dairy...
  12. There was a recipe for the soup but I dont remember where I saw it. This is how I made it...skinless chicken, carrots, celery, onions in water. When it was done I threw out the onions and celery and ate the soup.
  13. I thought this was a really good article. Nevermind...the link doesnt work I'll see if I can find it again. Oh well...I guess its seen as an advertisement but as far as I can tell its not. It was a cool article. Sorry.
  14. I ate McCanns and reacted with immediate "D". Diarreah is rare for me so I thought it was just a fluke. I ate the oats again and got more of a glutened type reaction. They were REALLY good and I miss oats but I wont be trying them again.
  15. She was asking about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet...which is basically for people who are still having food intolerances and other problems after going gluten-free. I've only been on the diet 1 week today but I have noticed improvement. I have more energy and my mood and spirits are much better but thats about it so far. I'm definately sticking to the...
  16. Mi-Del animal cookies...really good. Lifestream waffles Pamelas cookies
  17. There are sooo many gluten-free foods that taste good. I believe if I was still eating gluten like I did before I may not like the foods as much as I do now. Gluten is VERY addictive...I went through withdrawl symptoms my first week off gluten. If you continue to keep small amounts of gluten in your diet your body will continue to crave it and its a powerful...
  18. Celiac Disease can cause infertility and miscarriages but this is more likely in undiagnosed celiacs or those who dont follow the diet. If you follow the diet 100% you're chances are just as good as any other healthy person. Another reason why its so important to adhere to the diet. That little piece of chicken nugget is just not worth it.
  19. I have never heard of such a thing. I'm highly doubtful about this.
  20. Berneses, Have you ever tried to stick to a diet of veggies fruit and meat? None of these foods are processed in a plant that also produces gluten. Maybe if you dont eat out and dont eat processed foods you can feel better...add things back in and pinpoint the foods that are bothering you.
  21. Yeah...he does sound like any other other doctor. I'm not really surprised though. I dont care how "famous" he is I'd take my "unknown" doctor over Dr. Green any day...especially after reading your posts. I attended a lecture given by my doctor the other night. It was titled "Celiac Disease..What your doctor didn't tell you". It was really informative but...
  22. There are a small percentage of Celiacs who do not have either of the main genes (DQ2 and DQ8). Not having either of these genes greatly reduces your chances of developing Celiac but a negative gene test cannot rule out Celiac with 100% certainty. At this time they have not yet determined every gene involved with Celiac.
  23. I got my results in a little less than 2 weeks. They will email you the results. Seems like they email them on Sundays alot of the time. I got mine on a Sunday. I had the nightsweats/chills quite frequently but along with gluten intolerance I had a bacteria infection so not sure which caused it. Could have been a combination of both but I've only recently...
  24. Hi, I cant offer much help as far as eating out because I havent attempted it yet since I've been on the diet. I just wanted to echo whats already been said...you really do need to commit to the diet in order to stay healthy. The other night I went to a lecture my doctor gave about Celiac. He said that they had done biopsies on Celiacs who were following...
