  1. Nini, I know what you mean about people waiting for the doctor to diagnose. I did this for 2 years before I got smart and took matters into my own hands. I have improved my health by staying off gluten and instead of laying in bed all day on disability I'm now working everyday since Spetember. I only missed one day due to side effects from antibiotics...
  2. I actually have been off dairy for awhile so no yogurt. I was advised by people on the c-diff forum to avoid dairy because it aggravates the problem....although some people swear by it. I didnt really have "D" while on the antibiotics. Its a rare occasion for me to get bad cramps and "d". I know it was from eating the rice. I do not do well with starches...
  3. I found Nancy's recipe on the "Specific Carbohydrate Diet" thread. My Enterolab was negative for casein intolerance so I'm gonna probably use Goats milk for now. I've made it in the past and liked it. I used to have problems with cheese so havent eaten it in a long time but I must be somewhat improved because I had no reaction from the cheese at all. I...
  4. We will try harder for NO errors in the future. The person who posted the topic posted the same topic 3 times so "technically" only one of those should have been pinned. It could have been 3 seperate moderators reading the topic and "pinning" it without knowing that there were 2 other identical posts on the board. So yeah...We're not perfect.
  5. I started the diet today and I'm really excited too! I just bought the book but pretty much already studied the illegal/legal list from the SCD site. I have c-diff and candida so hoping this will help things get back to normal.
  6. This is what I'm doing: 1. Had tests done to see what underlying issues could be causing the leaky gut (I've been gluten free 10 months). I was found to have C-Diff bacteria overgrowth and candida. 2. Had to take antibiotics to kill the c-diff. Dont know if it worked yet. Will retest in 30 days. 3. During and following antibiotic treatment my doc...
  7. Hey Nancy! I remember you were starting the diet....I was hoping you'd answer some of my questions. YAY! I think I got the right dry curd stuff....it's called "friendship" farmers cheese. I ate Swiss cheese tonight for the first time in like a year. It was really good. I was missing cheese alot. This diet is much easier than the candida...
  8. Were you taking antibiotics before you got sick? Thats what causes C-Diff infection. I have C-Diff but for some reason I dont have the hallmark "D" that goes with it. Last night I had a major attack though. I just finished antibiotic treatment for the c-diff Thursday and then last night I tried to eat some rice...took a nap...and got woken up with the worst...
  9. Hmmm....I'm really not sure about that one. To me it would seem very unlikely you would get glutened while swimming. I would just keep my mouth closed while in the water.
  10. I just got my book today at Barnes & Noble. I'm looking forward to reading it but not really expecting to learn anything new. Dangerous Grains tops my list...but this book looks like it'll be a good read.
  11. I just finished antiobiotics for c-diff bacteria overgrowth and I also have candida overgrowth and dysbiosis. My doctor has me taking different probiotics trying to restore normal flora. I'm thinking if there was ever a good time to start this diet its now. I bought the book today and the diet is not as strict as the candida diet I was on last year. I get...
  12. My experience was that the doctors knew nothing about Enterolab (had never heard of it). Its not surprising since they knew very little about Celiac period. My doctor had never ordered Celiac bloodtests before and didnt even know what to order. This was an HMO. Now I'm seeing a different doctor (more of a naturopath). He's more up to date about gluten intolerance...
  13. I'm looking at the April 2005 list and it says Horizon Company All products are gluten-free (Organic cottage cheese, organic milks, organic dairy yogurts, cream cheese, just to name a few) So now I'm confused.
  14. Where did you hear that? I thought Horizon was gluten-free?? I believe its on the Delphi list also. I got sick from Horizon vanilla yogurt back when I first started the diet but when I checked into it it seemed safe. I'm intolerant to vanilla though so I assumed that caused the reaction I got.
  15. Actually I LOVE McDonalds and it was one of my favorite places to eat before I got sick. However, we all know its not healthy food by any means. Now that I'm aware of my problems with food...I dont eat there. I'm trying to heal and my health is #1 priority....which is why it baffles my mind to read about these people who were violently ill...yet they're out...
  16. Thats soo cool that they were so accomadating and aware of your needs. Thats got to be a great feeling. I'm gonna put Sea World on my "places to visit when I get better" list.
  17. The fries have tested negative for gluten so I dont really see how anyone can sue McDonalds for their health problems. Also if someone is so terribly ill what are they doing eating at McDonalds all the time? If you are getting reactions and have no idea why you must be eating the fries pretty frequently or you'd be able to determine fries=feeling sick. ...
  18. I had hot flushes constantly...sometimes I would sweat...sometimes I'd get chills too. I was sweating profusely (hands too) but I had an overactive thyroid. Treating my thyroid didnt fix the problem so it wasnt my thyroid after all. When I went gluten free it got ALOT better but still happens occasionally. I just recently got diagnosed with a bacteria infection...
  19. Yeah...you should be ok with the oven. Just dont put the bread right on the rack. Sounds like dairy...I dont eat dairy for the same reason...huge tummy.
  20. What kind of toaster do you have? If its a regular toaster I think it'd be impossible to clean...might as well get a new one for like 10 bucks. If its a toaster oven then that would be easier to clean plus you could just put foil down to be sure. A regular toaster would definately cause cross contamination...I'm sure you've toasted regular bead in it if you...
  21. Didnt you say (on another thread) you hadnt replaced your toaster and kitchen stuff that could cause cross contamination? Have you done that yet? Sorry if I'm confusing you with someone else...my memory's not always the greatest. If you're sure its not gluten I'd definately try no dairy for a couple weeks...see what happens.
  22. I second the recommendation of using Enterolab. Not only do they check for DQ2 & DQ8 (Celiac genes)...they also check for gluten sensitivity genes as well.
  23. Enterolab cant diagnose Celiac Disease but the results will definately tell you if you're gluten intolerant. Did you order the gene test? If you end up having a Celiac gene you could assume continuing to consume gluten will eventually lead you to Celiac.
  24. You can only use the change avatar setting. What message are you getting when you try to put your doggie pic up? Is the pixel size too big?
  25. I tried to get an appt. with Dr. Pyle and was told she does not see anyone who is not biopsy proven Celiac so I could only schedule with Dr. Gray. In the end I found an excellent Dr. elsewhere so never saw Dr. Gray. You would also need a referral and records (having to do with referral) before they will schedule you. I was with Kaiser previously and it was...
