I agree about the enzymes. You can get reactions from foods (for various reasons) and not be allergic to them. Also if you have an intolerance to casein its not going to show up in an allergy test (IgE). You can use Enterolab if you want to know for sure but listening to your body is still the best way to go. I have no IgE allergies but have many intolerances...

ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?
Rachel--24 replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Personally, I think its best to avoid soy and dairy if you are still having lots of reactions to various foods. The reason is that even if these foods dont cause blunted villi they *are* a big factor when it comes to leaky gut. Gluten intolerance (with or w/out Celiac) can cause leaky gut and this doesnt necessarily heal itself just because we stop eating... -
ARCHIVED I Have Elevated Liver Enzymes
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thats funny Yeah Nancy, I'm needing that too. Ever since I ate a bunch of dairy a few weeks ago I got really messed up. I was constipated for 2 weeks and still not normal yet. My intestines are really messed up...usually I dont experience too much GI symptoms but now I'm having alot of it. I now know what people are talking about when they say... -
ARCHIVED I Have Elevated Liver Enzymes
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well...all went well with my CT today. They called me with the results and said everything was "unremarkable". Nothing about a fatty liver this time. Maybe the diet helped it? The last CT was before going gluten-free. They did say I had an enlarged or prominant ovary but didnt sound like it was anything to worry about. Guess I'll wait to see... -
ARCHIVED Villi Damage From Other Food Intolerances?
Rachel--24 replied to megsylvan2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I dont think other foods cause villi damage that is seen in Celiac but they can cause imflammation of the intestinal lining. The only other protein I've heard of causing the same villi damage is casein...but its very rare. -

ARCHIVED Im So Confused About Allergies
Rachel--24 replied to Moongirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have no IgE allergies whatsoever. I've been negative in all the allergy tests I've done. I DO have many intolerances though. I have more food intolerances than I can count. I agree with food diary being the best method for figureing these things out. Unless you have a "true" allergy (which are usually pretty obvious) I think the tests arent all that... -
ARCHIVED I Have Elevated Liver Enzymes
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jenvan, Thanks, I'm not going to stress on it. I think my body's just going through alot right now. I've been in a highly "reactive" state for 3 months now from casein intolerance so hopefully things will start improving now. Everything I read about fatty liver has to do with people who are overweight and I'm underweight so I'm confused on that. Maybe... -
ARCHIVED I Have Elevated Liver Enzymes
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks Robbin, I think the elevated enzymes may be because of leaky gut. I have it really bad and cant tolerate chemicals, perfumes, smokers, etc. Plus I have numerous food sensitivities and have to eat only organic foods. I think its just really overloading my liver. All these things did get better for a period (when I first went gluten-free) but then... -
ARCHIVED I Have Elevated Liver Enzymes
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I dont know what the #'s are because they just called me today and told me it was high. She said the doctor will discuss it with me but since I'm already scheduled for CT tomorrow he'll talk to me after he gets the results of the scan. The weight loss isnt related to Graves. I was actually 30 lbs. bigger when I had hyperthyroid. They nuked my thyroid... -
ARCHIVED I Have Elevated Liver Enzymes
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I dont trust my HMO that did the first CT scan. The doctors werent very good or knowledgeable but this is what the doctor said about the results. Your liver has some fat in it. Out of 10 people I do a ct on, 4 have fatty infiltration, which by itself is not dangerous at all, but if you drink more than 2 glasses of alcohol a day or have a family history... -
I saw a new GI last week. He did some bloodwork and ran the Celiac panel even though I've already been on the diet 1 year. Maybe he thought I wasnt really gluten-free? Anyway, they called today today and said the bloodwork was negative but I have elevated liver enzymes. I'm scheduled for an upper CT scan tomorrow...I already had this test last year and...

Probiotics are easy to find. Look in a health store like Whole Foods (the refrigerated kind are best quality). The best way to control candida if you have an overgrowth is stay off sugar, and high carb starchy foods like potatoes. More important is identifying what might be causing the overgrowth to begin with...maybe you have another food intolerance...

Did you take probiotics while on the antibiotics? Its always important to replenish the good bacteria while on antibiotics. Do you take any now?

ARCHIVED What Is Your Most Annoying Symptom?
Rachel--24 replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah me too...I had a very warm body before I got sick. I remember feeling something wasnt right when I was all bundled up at work....I closed my office door and blasted the heater and when anyone tried to come into the room they'd be like "WOAH...its way too hot in here...how can you stand that?" They wouldnt be able to be in my office at all....and I was... -
There is no "legitimate" test for Candida and most doctors do not believe in it so its not likely you will get anywhere with that. Its pretty much only recognized by alternative doctors and they treat it with diet and supplements. If you have a classic yeast infection or thrush then your doctor can treat you for that. I'm not sure that Candida is really the...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Most Annoying Symptom?
Rachel--24 replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My worst symptom by far is brainfog....I hate it . I sometimes can barely function due to the brainfog and its the most frusterating thing I've ever experienced. Next would be mood swings and depression....I have anger "episodes" and also can get overly emotional. Those are my worst but the physical symptoms are no fun either. I get the freezing chills... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Gain Weight Before Losing Weight
Rachel--24 replied to slpinsd's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yeah...I totally go back and forth with this in my mind. Sometimes I'm convinced there is something else wrong and I'm just sensitive to gluten right now cuz basically I'm sensitive to everything right now. My doctor looks at me like I'm whacked when I start questioning this diagnosis....but really...how can I know for sure? I did have a biopsy but... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Gain Weight Before Losing Weight
Rachel--24 replied to slpinsd's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I guess our stories are pretty similar. I think I'm the one who's more skeptical about Celiac since I dont carry a main gene....it keeps me wondering. The doctors are all telling me thats what it is even though it cant be confirmed...but I'm like "I dont have the gene." My naturopath and both GI doctors I've seen are all convinced this is what... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Gain Weight Before Losing Weight
Rachel--24 replied to slpinsd's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think the gluten was causing me problems before I actually "felt" it happening. I was gaining weight but didnt really think of it as bloating...cuz at the time I didnt even know what bloated was. I was just happy to be gaining weight...I got teased because it was all in my stomach. I just kept gaining and then I *was* sick and had to go out on disability... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Gain Weight Before Losing Weight
Rachel--24 replied to slpinsd's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
YES! I was always small...wanted to gain weight all my life. All of a sudden during the 6 months before symptoms started I was gaining! It was great and I liked my new body...I finally had one! I was around 117-120. After I started having symptoms I gained even more. I got up to 128 and was feeling bloated and too big. I also had Graves Disease and it didnt... -
ARCHIVED Milk/gluten/what Else?
Rachel--24 replied to VydorScope's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for your post Meredith You answered some questions for me. When I'm glutened I get highly reactive to other foods, chemicals, etc. Even though I've been gluten-free almost a year I'm still in this reactive state more often than not....I react to c.c. and have had to stick to whole foods. I know for a fact dairy is a problem...it messes me... -
ARCHIVED Those Of You That Can't Eat Rice
Rachel--24 replied to BamBam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In my journals I write pretty much everything. I write how I'm feeling, any symptoms I'm having, everything that goes into my mouth...including supplements. I also put down my weight (since I'm trying to gain but sometimes still lose). I write down any reactions I might get after eating...stuff like that. I'm not as good about keeping the journal as... -
ARCHIVED To All Of You Who Are Still Sick Despite Being gluten-free
Rachel--24 replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maybe it was something you were eating on the diet that made things worse for you? Were you eating the yogurt? I've been on the diet 3 weeks now and feel much better. I also was able to determine that I'm casein intolerant because of the fact that there are so few foods in my diet right now. I've been off casein 3 days now and the difference is amazing... -
ARCHIVED What About Candica Albican?
Rachel--24 replied to Carolita's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Celiac Disease (or any other intestinal disease) can lead to an overgrowth of candida. This should get better once your intestines heal. It is helpful to take probiotics.
