  1. Well you've only been on the diet for a day so you're definately not gonna get relief of all symptoms so soon. You're not going to be "perfect" in 5 days either. These things take time and patience. Didnt you say you've had symptoms your whole life? Well...they're not going to all go away in 1 week. You're trying to "help" your body heal on this diet. Its...
  2. There are specific genes that can predispose you to getting Celiac (DQ2 & DQ8) but having one of these genes does not prove Celiac. Nearly half the population has one of these genes but not everyone has Celiac.
  3. I've thought about the gaining new intolerances thing and I've decided not to worry about it. If I were to continue eating the wrong foods and my gut never healed it would probably keep happening. I'm thinking if I follow the diet and start healing its less likely to happen. I'm really not intolerant to alot of foods but I am intolerant to salicylates...which...
  4. I cant eat any of those things right now...except meat. Hopefully I can eat enough to at least maintain where I'm at. My appetite is huge and I eat alot of the stuff that I can eat. Its not a big selection though.
  5. I have to agree with what alot have already said....meat, fruits and veggies (well cooked)....its the way to go. Sounds like you're having trouble digesting starches/carbs...this will mess up your system and keep you from healing like you should. I also second the recommendation for taking priobiotics and reading "Breaking the Vicious Cycle".
  6. I had all those eye symptoms too. Sometimes it felt like I couldnt move my eyes...like they were stiff and dry. They hurt and for awhile I couldnt drive at night because of sensitivity to lights. I wore sunglasses all the time too. I had blurred vision periodically. They did tons of tests on my eyes but nothing came up and my vision was good. They did a catscan...
  7. I'm not familiar with the test but do the foods that came up positive actually bother you? I would eliminate some of the foods you might suspect you are sensitive to and then after a few weeks add one back in...eat it for a few days and if you get symptoms you know to avoid it. Do this with each food. Make sure you are feeling pretty good before you add a...
  8. I don't see how you could possibly gain weight on this diet...its no complex carbs or starches. I dont gain weight no matter what I eat because I have malabsorption so I'm hoping after being on the diet a few months I'll start healing and absorbing....and gaining!
  9. Well...I hope you get your answers but even if the tests are negative you should still go on the diet 100% (no pizza, no beer). It sounds like you could have Celiac but the tests arent "perfect"....your bodies response to the diet will make it official if the tests do not. Also, if you have Celiac alot of the damage that may have occurred will correct...
  10. Thanks for the tips Corrine I was eating the farmers cheese and also swiss cheese and at first I felt fine so I continued to eat it....basically I went overboard. I ended up with bloating, gas and really bad constipation. Its still causing me problems 4 days later. I'm going to avoid the dairy for awhile and next time I try it...it will be in very...
  11. How old is your son? Tests can be unreliable under the age of 2. Actually the tests can be unreliable at any age but particularly under 2. If he is improving on the diet he obviously is intolerant to gluten. He may not have Celiac but an intolerance can cause the same symptoms and treatment is the same whether he's Celiac or intolerant. Going ahead with the...
  12. I eat ground turkey and ground chicken but I only get the organic stuff from Whole Foods. They have all natural ground meats but I think I do best with the organic stuff. Steak is hard to digest...I used to eat alot of it but now I pretty much stick to chicken, fish, and some hamburger meat.
  13. In my opinion you probably don'y have full blown Celiac *yet*. All that means is that you havent had major damage yet...tTG usually shows positive when there is already suficient damage. If you continued to consume gluten eventually the damage would occur. So you are catching it in the early stages...which is great!
  14. Nancy, I LOVE that! Thanks for posting it. I'm gonna print it out. The pictures make it so easy to comprehend.
  15. I got c-diff from antibiotics. I only took them for about a week but my doctor says I was more susceptible because I was not gluten free at the time. I didnt know I had gluten intolerance, I lived on fast food and I had never heard of a probiotic before. So there you go....my ignorance led me to where I'm at today. You should be ok...everyone should take...
  16. Dani, I dont eat eggs either so no you dont have to eat them. Is the grape juice your drinking free of any added sugars? I think I remember reading that fruit juice needs to be 100% natural, it cant be from concentrate and it should be diluted with water at the beginning of the diet. Fruits shouldnt be eaten until diarreah stops. I'm not eating yogurt right...
  17. Who diagnosed you with systemic candida? An alternative doctor? I dont believe in the "systemic" theory (although I did at one time). There is no scientific evidence to back this up. I believe only those with severely compromised immune systems develop systemic candida and at this point they would be hospitilized. Candida antibodies in the bloodstream do...
  18. I LOVE eating my fruits cooked. For some reason they taste yummier. Dani, For the first few days just eat well cooked carrots all mashed up, plain chicken or hamburger. If you dont have diarreah maybe you can have some well cooked fruits (peeled). I'm eating pears, mangoes, and apples. Oh...and I'm glad you're joining the club! I...
  19. Homemade yogurt is really pretty easy to make. I did it alot last year and it wasnt as much of a hassle as I thought it'd be. You cant eat store bought yogurt on this diet but you can use it as a starter for your homemade yogurt.
  20. I cant eat any grains or starches at all...I kept cutting more and more out until I was only eating brown rice hot cereal. Everytime I eat Tinkyada pasta it messes me up. The hot cereal is out now too...I wasnt doing well the whole time I was eating it. I came to the conclusion thats its not the rice itself that I'm having problems with (I'm not intolerant...
  21. Its not the complete panel but it does include the most important tests. The IgG is missing but that is the least specific for Celiac....meaning if its positive it doesnt mean Celiac....but definately an intolerance. The EMA is missing but I think the tTG is the better of the two. The total serem IgA is important because it tells you that you're son is not...
  22. I agree with Richard...at least 3 months with a good amount of gluten eaten daily. Eating gluten for only a short time before testing (especially having been off it for 6 months) will likely give you negative results even if you have Celiac.
  23. Yeah..no more getting up at night and having to change clothes and sheets because I'm soaked and freezing. Those days sucked big-time! I was sleeping more than 15 hrs. a day with naps in between.. .now I sleep about 6 or 7 hours. I remember trying to get myself to work and most mornings I'd end up on the floor in the bathroom or back in bed crying...
  24. I love my yogurt maker...I cant remember the brand but its got little jars that you fill up and then put them in a round dome looking thing. Its cool cuz the yougurt is already in these individual serving jars when its ready to eat. I cant remember how much it cost....maybe 30 or 40 bucks. I ordered it online last year. Ahhh..I found it. Open Original...
  25. There are labs that offer these tests. You would just need a doctor to order the test for you. All of my tests were kits....which I did at home. Like Enterolab. I send in the package and they send the results to my doctor. I had one bloodtest which I had to do in the office but all the other tests I did myself. Also, you could call around until you can...
