Lots of things can irritate the gut and keep it from healing. It really does require a basic diet of whole foods to heal if its in bad shape. A proper diet in my opinion is much more important than taking supplements. You can take all the supplements you want but if you dont eat right for your body...the supplements arent gonna work miracles. Also, as is...

ARCHIVED Calling All "old Timers"
Rachel--24 replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well...I'm no old-timer but in April I'll be gluten-free for one year. I'm sure I'm not the most encouraging poster cuz we all know I've still got my problems BUT.... there are some good things to report! 1. I'm off pain meds since the 1st day I began the diet. Prior to that I took the pills every day. 2. All of my hypothyroid symptoms went away... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Doing Scd?

I have a question about cooking the fruits. It says to do this to improve digestion. Today I put my peeled pears into the microwave for a few minutes. They tasted really good this way but are they cooked or am I supossed to put them in the oven or something? I've never cooked fruit before. Is this right? -
ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitivity Question
Rachel--24 replied to Claire's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah I had negative biopsy but since I'd been off gluten 6 months its pretty worthless info. If someone were to have had a positive biopsy it would be labeled Celiac...otherwise its whatever you or your doctor decide to "name" it. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitivity Question
Rachel--24 replied to Claire's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not sure if I understand the question. Are you asking if anyone was diagnosed *Celiac* with positive bloodwork but negative biopsy? If so, there's lots of people on this site. Or are you asking about non-celiac gluten sensitivity? This is my history: Oct. 2004 -2 weeks after initiating the diet I had bloodtests done through my HMO. (antigliadin... -
ARCHIVED Stool Samples....
Rachel--24 replied to gointribal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What are they testing for? Gluten consumption has nothing to do with tests for other things. Only if you were having bloodtests or biopsy for Celiac would you need to be worried about having been off gluten. EDIT: I'm assuming your being tested for parasites, bacteria, etc.?? That has nothing to do with whether or not you're eating gluten. -
ARCHIVED Background Heritage Question
Rachel--24 replied to CMCM's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know both parents do not need to have a celiac gene in order for the child to aquire a gene. You only need one Celiac gene to develop the disease and you can get that from either parent. -

Oh yeah...I know I'm gonna kick this thing....I have no doubts. Its gonna get a whole lot better! My doctor said the same thing...that the gluten intolerance would have weakened my immune system and set me up for an infection like C-Diff. Theres no way to know for sure though....I sometimes find it hard to believe the gluten intolerance was always there... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Doing Scd?
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I guess this is what I had. It started a few weeks after taking antibiotics. I started getting hotflashes, sweating, chills, headaches, noticed my wounds werent healing too well, looked kinda pale. Then started experiencing rapid hairloss. I figured it was cuz of my overactive thyroid although I'd never had symptoms so severe. I lost 25 lbs. but not as quickly... -

Thanks. I felt sooo bad while on the antibiotcs. It was the longest 2 weeks ever. I was naseaus and had no appetite the entire time. I was also REALLY tired and somewhat depressed. I started feeling better the day after I finished the treatment....but I dont feel cured at all. -

Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The typical and usual symptoms are extreme diarreah (many times with blood and mucus) during or following antibiotics. The diarreah could lead to hospitilization, dehydration, etc. It can be very serious. I did not have these symptoms. I had weight loss, loose stools and I was just very very ill. I think it made the environment in my intestines extremely... -

PreOptMegs, Thank you so much for the advice. I know you've got some experience with this diet. The more I read...the more this diet makes sense. Nothing else has worked for correcting my dysbiosis. I didnt know I had C-Diff bacteria but now that its been diagnosed and treated (keeping fingers crossed) hopefully I can get my gut back to normal. I... -

I found this site that talks about how the diet heals leaky gut. Open Original Shared Link This is the main reason I'm doing the diet. I have a VERY leaky gut and besides gluten intolerance I'm sensitive to salicylates, dairy, chemicals, and well... pretty much everything. Sometimes I start to get better and can tolerate things but I never found a... -

Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah...I dont do well with nuts either. I'm gonna avoid them until all symptoms are gone (if that ever happens) and then slowly reintroduce them. I also need to avoid dairy so I probably wont be making the yogurt yet. I tend to go overboard. I ate a whole block of swiss cheese in less than 24 hours...after not having dairy for awhile. It was good until I... -

Thats interesting. I'm really starting to believe these "bugs" cause a lot of health problems when they overgrow and start damaging the intestines. The correct balance is essential for good health. No wonder my doctor is always looking for bacteria infections and "bugs" for underlying causes in disease. I know I get way better if I fast but I cant do it... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Yogurt?
Rachel--24 replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Raw germs?? The bacteria is in all yogurt and its good for you. You have colonies of those bacteria living in your digestive tract right now. You need them for good health. -
I only know how to do it with my photo editing software. The one I mainly use is Adobe. Do you have any photo software? Maybe theres another way to do it but thats all I know.

As far as I know Nini is pretty harmless...that was really funny though! I think its better that they use the term "allergy" on the restaraunt cards because it makes it much easier for the staff to comprehend. They know about allergies and will understand that term more than they would understand that wheat causes an autoimmune response. Technically as... -
