ARCHIVED Other Food Intolerance - Confused About Iga / Igg
Rachel--24 replied to cornbread's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
IgE allergies are "true" allergies. They are usually immediate. A peanut allergy is an example. Symptoms of IgE allergies may be hives, swelling, breathing problems...it would not be delayed. IgE allergies dont usually go away. They can also result in anapylatx reactions. I know I totally spelled that wrong. IgG are considered sensitivities....they... -

Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED *vent* Glutened At Work...
Rachel--24 replied to princessfuzzball's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I work in a grocery store and my doctor wrote me a note saying that I couldnt be around flour due to immune response to gluten or something like that. Anyways my work was more than accommadating and they knew I was sick...I had been off 2 years. I didnt work in the bakery but my office was right next to the bakery. I now have a diferent position in the store... -
ARCHIVED Thanking The "old School" Posters
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would like to send out one more BIG thank you and that is to the Admin (Scott) because without him this board would not exsist and I would imagine alot of us would still be sick without the support and advice of the people here. -

ARCHIVED Glutened By Cereal Again
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have reacted to every Bob's Red Mill product I've tried. They have gluten free labels on the front and they say that they are ELISA batch tested. Now I'm not trusting anything thats not made in a dedicated gluten-free facility. Drew, I know what you mean because once I got my hands on the lists I started eating all sorts of things...thinking they... -
ARCHIVED Negative Genetic Markers
Rachel--24 replied to wjane60's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
2% of celiacs have DQ1...which is not tested for. Also they havent found all the genes involved yet. My GI wouldnt rule out celiac based on my genes alone. I dont have DQ2 or DQ8. I have DQ1 and DQ3 which are gluten sensitivity genes and can cause severe symptoms and also damage to the body but usually not the villi damage that is seen in celiacs. Its... -

ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance...
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'd have to look back at the test results to see if "casein" specifically was tested. The results showed no elevated IgG responses to ANY foods tested and I was eating dairy at that time. I did have the Enterolab tests for casein (IgA) and that was negative as well. I scored a 9...a 10 would have been positive. I had been off dairy for a few months before... -
ARCHIVED Now Does This Make Any Sense?
Rachel--24 replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms probably wouldnt be exactly the same everytime you eat gluten. Also sometimes reactions may occur quickly and other times reactions may show up a day or two later. Thats what happens with me anyways. I never noticed any kind of pattern with my illness when I was eating gluten everyday. Somedays I could eat things and not be affected and... -
ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Poop For A Minute.
Rachel--24 replied to frenchiemama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you've been mostly gluten-free since August there's a pretty good chance your bloodtests will come back negative even if you have celiac disease. You need to be eating it everyday for about 3 months before taking the tests. -
ARCHIVED Thanking The "old School" Posters
Rachel--24 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you Erik! That was a very thoughtful gesture. I'm still pretty much a newbie myself. I've just somehow managed to aquire quite a bit of knowledege about celiac disease in the short time I've been gluten-free. It was only 3 months ago that I was clueless and scared and this board helped me out tremendously. People like Kaiti, Nini, Matilda, JnkMnky... -
ARCHIVED Ra, Tmj Or Similar Anyone?
Rachel--24 replied to jnifred's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just wanted to say I had all your same symptoms + a whole lot more. I had bad TMJ for about a year. I couldnt fully open my mouth. The joints and muscle were always swollen and very painful. I also had swollen glands and pretty much my whole head was puffy and swollen. My neck was also unbearably stiff and would crack alot. My hands would and fingers were... -
ARCHIVED Doctors And Diagnosis
Rachel--24 replied to Nemi555's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From my experience you can be extremely sick, losing lots of weight, unable to even hold your head up, in tears begging for help and they still don't really think you're sick. -
ARCHIVED Tests To Request
Rachel--24 replied to lopo7883's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED One More Question About Enterolab
Rachel--24 replied to dlp252's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hmmm...I cant remember if there was anything "incriminating" on the box. I dont think it would be too obvious though...not unless you have some very nosey people at work. -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Cereal Again
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah...I'm really feeling that way now. Even though I get careless about checking the lists I feel that I'm being super catious otherwise. I've never eaten something with gluten in it (as an ingredient) yet I'm lucky if I can make it 2 weeeks w/out getting glutened. Its always due to contamination. Anyways thanks for letting me know I'm not alone... -
Wow Deb! I'm glad you're feeling better about knowing after all this time. I'm very shocked you never heard of the brainfog/gluten link. I think its a very common symptom. Well...better late than never right!!

ARCHIVED Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show
Rachel--24 replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
Yes...1 in 133 is an estimate of those who have celiac disease diagnosed or not. Most of these people are not diagnosed so the number of diagnosed celiacs is probably much higher. Maybe you are right Survivor 1 in 4 or 5 thousand. Maybe 1 in 22 are gluten sensitive but not actually Celiac. I dont know where those numbers came from but I think they are innaccurate... -
OK...first I posted about getting glutened by Barbaras Bakery cereal and I told myself I would *always* check stuff out first before I eat it...at least by looking at the Delphi list. I already forgot my own advice and this time I tried Health Valley rice chex cereal. The next day I felt glutened again. I looked at the Delphi list...of course "after...

Rachel--24 replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
1 out of 22?? Where did you read that...I thought it was 1 out of 133 people have celiac disease?? -
Brainfog is one of my worst symptoms. With brainfog I cant focus on anything. My thoughts leave my mind quickly and then I cant remember what I was thinking. I feel spaced out like I'm not really "all there". Driving is difficult and I get confused easily...have ran red lights before...not responding fast enough like my brain didnt get the message to stop...
