  1. Tressemme does contain gluten, it's best you stop using it. I use Softsoap too, it's great. I can use Garnier Shampoo and Conditioner, yet my favorite is Pantene. St Ives has many lotions with wheat in them. It is very difficult to read ingredients in these type of products.
  2. I was reading the ingredients on a Hellman's Canola Mayonaise jar last week, and it even stated *Gluten Free on the jar. Problem for me is, salad dressings and mayo nearly always contain soy.
  3. Gluten, soy, corn, rice, (all grains) red meat, shellfish, nightshades, cruciferous veggies, tapioca, and now, dairy . The last one upset me so much, losing my cheese...I had already given up cottage cheese and ice cream. I also do not use high fructose corn syrup, caffeine, and very little sugar...only natural sugars in fruits.
  4. The very first time I was glutened after going gluten free was hazelnut coffee at a convience store. That glutening I will never forget. I also worked in a convience store and used to read the ingredients on cappichino boxes...probably 30 or 40 ingredients. In my opinon, that many ingreds is just asking for trouble. I have just started using coconut...
  5. I removed it from my diet over 1 year ago. Bad stuff.
  6. My preference is "gluten intolerant". Gluten sensitive does not cover an intolerance. I am not gluten sensitive, I am gluten intolerant...my gluten intolerance was a digestive intolerance, no confusion in my mind. I lived with diarrhea daily, I am still dealing with malabsorption problems...definitely gluten intolerance. I agree totally. Gluten...
  7. I use Excedrin all the time, it's gluten free. I use Excedrin Migraine, Extra Strength, and Tension Headache.
  8. I do not worry about my chicken, I only buy fresh, never marinated. Just remember, this only stands true of wheat, not barley or rye...barley and rye do not need to be listed on the label, not by law.
  9. No, celiac does not go away. Your doctor doesn't know what he is doing if he feels you can eat gluten for 5-7 days and be tested. 5-7 days will not do enough damage for testing, even though that would make me so very, very sick. Some of us do develop other intolerance's, and you have to be free of those foods too. Other intolerance's can have the same...
  10. So much bouncing back and forth in here...good discussion. Villi damage can occur without celiac disease. Also, as others have stated, specific genes are no longer considered "only" celiac genes by everyone, this opinion has changed. The whole problem with diagnosing celiac is, they really do not know enough yet, and are guessing, they only think...
  11. According to the doc I work for, no. None of the eye drops he recommends, nothing in the office contains gluten. I do not use contacts, but I do have dry eyes, and nothing I have used has bothered me..Systane, Refresh Liquigel, Pantenol...nothing. Some people do react to different solutions, but it's not gluten.
  12. Yes, not dreaming is a symptom of sleep apnea, and sleep apnea is not induced by celiac disease. Often times, sleep apnea has a heriditary factor in that family members have the same bone structures, meaning the jaw bones may be the same, causing difficulty in breathing while asleep. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea last summer, and have been on CPAP...
  13. The doc I work for always recommends Opti-Free Refresh. As a rule, our patients like it.
  14. A friend mentioned this in another forum, and I felt it may pretain to you: My super, duper silly girl cannot be in a shared space without getting sick. She doesn't like church because it makes her sick. Just playing in the nursery is enough to get her reacting, even when no food is present. Playdoh is another huge issue that covers EVERYTHING. We are...
  15. To begin with, they can't even test lower than 5ppm, so telling us gluten free is just a guess. Some celiac's/gluten intolerants can tolerate less than 20ppm, some less than 10ppm, some less than 5ppm, and some of us, none, we can't have gluten. If I eat 2 gluten free cookies, I will deal with it for at least 3 weeks. Even GIG will tell you, their verification...
  16. Friends of mine live in Florida, they and a group of friends went on a cruise in the spring. One of their friends is celiac, and she said the cruise line totally accommodated him, desserts and all. She said his food looked wonderful, and he said it tasted wonderful...better yet, he never once got sick. Notifying the cruise line is the best thing you can...
  17. There are those celiac's who were diagnosed by villi damage, yet, I think we would all be surprised at how many more were diagnosed just as your doctor is telling you. I think it's a good idea to know which genes you have. I have double DQ1 genes, so I know each of my kids have at least one DQ1 gene. The fact that I have 2 DQ1 genes, means each of...
  18. Maybe the two of you are super sensitive. Most grains have a measurable amount of gluten in them, although the amount is less than 20ppm, so it can be labeled gluten free. Many of us cannot eat gluten free cookies, crackers, and such for this reason. Some people will react to as little as 5ppm. There is not available testing for less than 5ppm, so who...
  19. How wonderful. You will have to let us know if the practice is everything I have heard it is. There is a very good book out there called, "Healthier Without Wheat" written by Dr. Stephen Wangen. He is called The Gluten Intolerance Doctor, but he isn't in my area either. The book was very good, I recommend it too. I agree too, that article is...
  20. All meds have side effects, but not everyone taking them get the side effects, or they may suffer one or two of them. What these drug companies do not tell you is: only about 1% of the public actually suffer those side effects, and there are many side effects they never mention. Taking an antidepressant is much needed by some people. When you are celiac...
  21. I find this to be the perfect thread to post this new info from The Gluten Doctors...a huge clinic in California.
  22. So Ted, do I understand this to mean I am wasting my Vit D by taking it daily? Would I be better off by taking say 6000 IU's once a week?
  23. No, you aren't lucky. I think it's better to have a reaction, then you know you were glutened. You can't "indulge occasionally, WITHOUT CONSEQUENCE"..there are consequences, even if you do not realize it. You may not being feeling a reaction, but the damage is still being done....Celiac's have a 60% higher chance of stomach cancers when they are eating...
  24. Any grain can be cross contaminated in the harvesting process. I am sure all grains have a detectable amount of gluten, be it 20ppm, 10ppm, or 5ppm. There are many of us who cannot tolerate any gluten above 5ppm. They can not test for any less than 5ppm, we just are not capable of it yet. Gluten free does not mean there is no gluten, it simply means the...
  25. Her tummyache on Sunday morning is normal. Even though you have her eating gluten free now, her body still has to dump all the gluten from previously. Going gluten free is not an instant cure. It takes time for you/her to feel better. If you had accidentally given her gluten on Sat night, the body still doesn't realize it's not eating gluten, it hasn...
