Have you recently had an antibody test to make sure you're not getting any gluten in your diet? Could it be that simple?
-
Some of you may find this amusing; I've never in my life eaten green bean casserole, and I'm not sure I've even seen it.
Jess, I do find it amusing. It's one of those need to have things for Thanksgiving. Rather yucky, in my humble opinion. I can do without.
Fresh beans with some garlic and dill...ooohhh so much better.

Wine (especially made from grapes)g usually contains ridiculus ammounts of fructose, which celiacs sometimes react to.

Why would people with Celiac react to fructose?

[edit] Diagnostic use
Serology for anti-tTG antibodies has superseded older serological tests (anti-endomysium, anti-gliadin and anti-reticulin) and has a strong sensitivity (99%) and specificity (>90%) for identifying coeliac disease. Modern anti-tTG assays rely on a human recombinant protein as an antigen[7]

Yeah for you!!! Happy dance for you!

I really think you should go to the doctor. Just go and sit until they take you. You have to wait hours when you do have an appointment time....so just go.

Welcome!
Are you certain that you are 100% gluten free. Gluten can be very tricky and hide in the most unusual places. Could you getting bits of gluten from a used toaster, shampoos, lotions, lip balms, meds, vitamins...
Yes, vomiting was a part of my symptoms.

Another thing to bear in mind is that that listing is over a year old. Ingredients change. I would get a current listing.
-
Where do you find that? All though I have never really looked not a popcord fan I just like a little something sweet after lunch =)
It's often by the chips or nuts. I can eat the entire bag in record time.

They may not use gluten as their ingredients in their rice cakes, but the risk for cross contamination with Quaker products are high.
-
Don't know about Cracker Jack, but PoppyCock Original is gluten free and it's just plain better
...but no prize.

It would really depend on the amount of time you were off gluten. There really isn't a standard time frame. You mentioned several weeks?
It's often recommended that you eat 3-4 pieces (or equivalent) of bread for two to three months, for someone who has been gluten free for an extended period of time.
Here is the Serologic Panel for Celiac:
Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG
Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA
Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA
Total IgA level.
Hope this helps and good luck with your testing.

Hi! My kids were just tested for Celiac disease because I have it too. Two of my children tested positive on the Iga - the range was above 20 is considered high. My son who tested at 24 Iga the children's GI at the hospital wants to do a biopsy on to confirm Celiac. My other son tested at 20 Iga and since they consider that on the border, want him to just eat more gluten for 6 weeks an then check his blood again. The child who tested at 20 Iga is seven years old and has diahrea and really foul smelling stools, which I believe are both symptoms. I am upset and disagree with the dr in waiting on doing the endoscope for him. What are any of your thoughts? What would you do? I just don't want celiac to be missed like it was in me for many years. I now have 4 other diseases because my celiac was out of control for so long. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Beachbel,
The IgA test is specific for Celiac. Anything in the positive range is considered positive. That, in itself, is a diagnosis.
There is no need for a biopsy to CONFIRM the diagnosis as it's rare for false positives in the Serologic Panel. A biopsy can, determine the level of damage. Further testing through and endoscopy/biopsy would be a personal choice. No one can tell you what's right for you.
Your children are young and healing should be rapid with a total gluten free diet.
Hope that helps.

Hi, thanks for your response
. So I'm confused by the "follow a strict and permanent gluten free diet." Does this mean I need to have my daughter checked as well?
You may have Celiac Disease, a gluten intolerance/sensitivity or a gluten allergy. There is no way to tell which you have through testing by Enterolabs.
Enterolabs response is very misleading, in listing symptoms associated with undiagnosed Celiac Disease. They cannot tell you if you have Celiac Disease.
"For optimal health, resolution of symptoms (if you have them), and prevention of small intestinal damage and malnutrition, osteoporosis, and damage to other tissues (like nerves, brain, joints, muscles, thyroid, pancreas, other glands, skin, liver, spleen, among others), it is recommended that you follow a strict and permanent gluten free diet. As gluten sensitivity is a genetic syndrome, you may want to have your relatives screened as well."
...sounds to me like they are drumming up more business. I don't have much faith in their testing, but other do.

You all had some great insight. I do feel sort of yuck today (headache, yawning all day, muscle pain) but it's not nearly as bad as it used to be (D for hours, extreme fatigue). I would never give up on the gluten free diet just because I ate a few Twizzlers with little ill effects. I am a strong believer of the gluten free diet and eating a few pieces of candy that contain wheat flour won't change that. Today it was back to 110% gluten free. We are all human and prone to giving in at times (especially during this time of year when treats are going to be everywhere you turn). I am glad I have a group of people like you all to vent to, people who understand and may be going through the same things I am. Thanks!!
Well, I hope you enjoyed them
Don't feel too bad. I don't condone an occasional temptation, but it's just hard to be perfect.

Yipeeee, what a special treat!!

There may be some products out there that say they test for the presents of gluten in prepared food. But, I wouldn't waste money on those gimicks.
I would recommend the Triumph Dining Guide as well as the Triumph Grocery Guide.
Educating yourself regarding gluten, can minimize your risk in dealing with the outside world.

Modified starch is derived from corn in the US, unless otherwise stated. I don't know about the other ingredients, but those you listed should not be a problem.

Not so far in the past, all of Amy's products said "gluten free" - I guess they haven't corrected their website yet.
You might also find that statement on other products as a CYA statement. You just have to weight that decision to see if it's right for you to consume those products.
-
that processes wheat, et al. I am new to all of this, but it's my understanding that gluten free means they cannot process with foods containing wheat. Someone please help explain. Thank you!
Amy's does not say "gluten free", it says No Gluten is added. It means that there is a change for cross contamination during processing, due to other products they make that do contain gluten.
In these times, gluten free would be a wild apple you picked from a tree.

Very interesting to see 'who' your friends are!
(10-16 points) You are Garfield :
You are very comfortable, easy going, and you de finitely know how to have fun but sometimes you take it to an extreme. You always know what you are doing and you are always in control of your life.. Others may not see things as you do, but that doesn't mean that you always have to do what is right. Try to remember, your happy spirit may hurt you or others.
(17-23 points) You are Snoopy:
You are fun; you are very cool and popular. You always know what's in and you're never out of style , you are good at knowing how to satisfy everyone else. You have probably disappeared for a few days more than once but you always come home with the family values that you learned Being married and having children are important to you, but only after you have had your share of fun times
(24-28 points) You are Elmo:
You have lots of friends and you are also popular, always willing to give advice and help out a person in need. You are very optimistic and you always see the bright side of things. Some good advice: try not to be too much of a dreamer. Dreaming too big could cause many conflicts in your life.
(29-35 points) You are Sponge Bob Square Pants:
You are the classic person that everyone loves. You are the best friend that anyone could ever have and never wants to lose. You never cause harm to anyone and they would never not understand your feelings. Life is a journey, it' s funny and calm for the most part Stay away from traitors and jealous people and you will be stress free.
(36-43 points) You are Charlie Brown:
You are tender, you fall in love quickly but you are also very serious about all relationships. You are a family person. You call your Mom every Sunday. You have many friends and may occasionally forget a few Birthdays. Don't let your passion confuse you with reality.
(44-50 points ) You are Dexter:
You are smart and definitely a thinker... Every situation is fronted with a plan. You have a brilliant mind. You demonstrate very strong family principles. You maintain a stable routine but never ignore a bad situation when it comes. Try y to do less over thinking every once in a while to spice things up a bit with spontaneity!
Now don't spoil it! Have some Fun!! Change the subject of the email to what you are and send it on.

Is Smithfield Ham gluten-free? I'm Confused...
in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Posted
I have gotten a very extensive listing of their gluten free products. I can't remember if I got it on line or through e-mail. You can also call them. I was quite impressed. Even the spiral sliced honey baked ham with glaze is NOW gluten free.
I see no gluten in the ingredients that you listed. And, you are correct about the dextrose, otherise, it would be listed at "dextrose (wheat)"
What were the circumstances that you and your friend ate the ham....home, restaurant, social gathering? CC could be a possibility.
Smithfield is a good company.
