Has anyone contact the company regarding its gluten free status? I found no information on their website.
-
My point is....if this were a HUGE problem where Celiac's all over the country are being "misled" by Enzymedica...where are they all?? Why arent we hearing about this constantly on this board...or *anywhere*??

I think that both sides of the argument/debate have been equally represented.

YES! A very happy birthday to you and may all you wishes come true, K.

Welcome!
Gluten can be very tricky and it hides well. "Natural Flavors" is one of those hiding places. By law, wheat needs to be listed in the ingredients or in the allergin information. Barley, malt and rye do not need to be listed.
Until your insides heal, you may be symptomatic to all foods.
Here is a listing of companies who will clearly list all forms of gluten, and not hide them in "natural ingredients":

Yes, easing up on the dairy it would be wise. And, calling you manufacturer of your BC pills to check on its gluten free status would eliminate that issue.

Hey everyone! I have been on a gluten and wheat free diet for about two weeks now and started feeling better after years and years of having serious stomach issues, headaches, and fatigue. My husband has been doing a great job keeping me on track and trying to stay away from gluten and wheat himself. We have been having a difficult time trying to find foods that I can eat and we double check the labels on everything. Lately I have started feeling sick to my stomach again and have been getting horrible headaches, and most embarrassing...running to the bathroom after some meals. Is there something I'm missing? I couldn't understand why after last nights meal of two small pieces of BBQ chicken and an ear of corn would send me running to the bathroom right after finishing my last bite and then feeling sick to my stomach and getting a horrible headache.
I looked up on a gluten free medication website and did not find my birth control listed on there. Maybe that is problem? Also, can deodorants have gluten in them that can irritate the skin?
Are there certain hidden ingrediants that I should be looking for other than the bold text that says contains: wheat and gluten label? Or could this be something different entirely?
I haven't stopped consuming dairy, but now I am considering. I used to be lactose intolerance as a child and have a suspicion that I could be having problems again. I have heard that sometimes celiac and lactose intolerance goes hand in hand.
If you have any information or can point me in a direction where I can find some, I would gladly appreciate it.
Thanks!

Is it okay to eat whey? Is it on the unsafe and should be avoided list? Or can we safely consume it?
Whey is ok for those with Celiac or gluten intolerance. Whey is NOT ok if you have an issue with dairy.

There are no "buttons" - just links.
Last night when some members were having board format issues, I sent Scott a snapshot of what my board view was, since it seemed to mirror some of problems that others were having, as well. Within about five minutes, he had resolved the issue.
Three cheers to Laura!!!
I just couldn't convince Scott that I had no "buttons"

Normal again.

I am currently planning a vacation with our extended family (4 families). We have 2 people on the gluten-free diet in our family. We go to WDW once a year, so we want to try something different. We will probably do a cruise unless I can come up with some other destinations that are somewhat easily done gluten-free. I would love a cruise, but I would also love to get to out west (we are in NY). Any ideas out there?

My logout button is also still missing. Maybe the earthquake this morning knocked it off the page.
Yup, that must be it. The Forum is California based. A little shake, rattle and roll, huh?

Peter, thank you, but to no avail.
SCOTT, put it back. (please

Is the Log-In/Log-Out button gone as well?

Work in Progress....
Not sure what's going on, but some mods have "veiw new posts" in a new location (upper left) and other (as in me) don't have it at all.
Give it some time and perhaps it will work out....I hope. It leaves me dead in the water.

Keep everything simple. Meat, seafood, potatoes, rice, fresh veggies and fruit. Stay away from processed food for a while and limit your seasonings to salt and pepper. Later, you will be able to add addition things when you learn more about what to look for in ingredients.
Scratched pots and pans should be replaced and a shared toaster won't work (gluten crumbs and such). The reason behind this is that gluten can hide everywhere and it would not be wise to risk cross contamination with your cookware. Other cookware can be cleaned well. New wooded spoons and cutting board would be a wise choice.
Some shampoos, lipsticks and lotions can contain gluten. Gluten needs to be ingested to cause a reaction, but so can lotions on your hands or face and lipstick. Some people with DH can react to topical gluten.
There is a lot to learn, but it does get easier.

Receding gums can be caused by using antacids and extreme thirst is often associated with Celiac symptoms because you absorb water in your small intestines (70% if I recall). If your villi are damage, it hinders the absorption of water as with other vitamins and minerals.

just curious...my test came back normal, but I have been living gluten free for awhile and feeling better then I have in years...when I got the test I was eating a gluten filled diet, so thats not the issue. my doctor says that it is celiac even though the test came back normal...has anyone else experienced this?
After an extended period of being gluten free, it would take the equivalent of 3-4 slices of bread for an estimated 3 months for the test not to be jeopardized by diet.
Blood tests as well as biopsies can be inaccurate. It sounds like your doctor is on top of things. If you respond well to a gluten free diet, that in itself is a diagnosis. Whether you are gluten intolerance of Celiac Disease the prescription is the same...a gluten free diet.

I'm sorry to say, you can not trust www.glutenfreedrugs.com ! I am very disappointed in the fact that they still list Xanax (all forms) as gluten free. It isn't!!! I had to search and search to find a gluten free form of Xanax, and there are only 2 or 3 companies that make it gluten free. Glutenfreedrugs.com still list Pfizer labs as a safe Xanax, and it's not. Nor is Greenstones, a sudsidiary of Pfizer. Yes, I did my homework, I called their 800 line and spoke with the pharmicist there. He was adamant that their Xanax has always contained gluten. I had always reacted to it, but, because glutenfreedrugs.com said it was safe, I thought maybe what I went through was some other kind of reaction. Now, I have my Xanax (alprazolam) from Mylan Labs...never a reaction to it anymore. I personally do not trust Pfizer.
Please be very careful trusting websites for the gluten free status of drugs. ALWAYS call the lab and ask directly. You can try to get 800# from your pharmicist, or often you can find the phone #'s online. Most pharmicist's do not know the gluten free status either.
Deb,
If you are certain that Xanax contains gluten, I would suggest that you contact the pharmacist that owns/operates the gluten free drugs site and inform him of your "homework". There is contact information on the site. I'm certain that your efforts would be appreciated.

Hi!
About 5 years ago a gastro doc did the blood test for celiacs, because I had chronic diarrhea and other symptoms that pointed to possible celiacs. The test came back positive. The doctor did a biopsy which was negative. I was told I did not have celiacs. The doc said since I was overweight I had IBS. I was later diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
Fast forward to today. We have moved to another state. I still have all the symptoms but much worse. I am now diabetic (extremely insulin resisitant). About three weeks ago I developed a blistery, red, itchy rash on both of my elbows. Nothing helps this rash. I have tried Benadryl (oral and topical), claritin and Zyrtec. it will go away in small spots but other bumps appear on other parts of the arm but in close proximity to the rest of the rash.
Does this sound like celiacs? I am seeing a new dr. on Friday to establish medical care in our new area. What should I tell/ask the doc?
Thank you,
Denise
PS. My 12yos has many of the same symptoms minus the rash.

YES, IT DOES SOUND LIKE CELIAC. And, you doctor is not informed. I assume that you tested positive through blood work. If that test was positive, that is a diagnosis. It does not matter if your biopsy is negative. Biopsies can be very hit and miss and as a result, not a reliable tool for diagnosis.
You can have your rash biopsied for DH. A positive diagnosis for DH is also one for Celiac.
Should you want to be retested for Celiac, this is what should be ordered by your doctor: (assuming that you have continued to eat gluten)
Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG
Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA
Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA
Total IgA level.
Welcome to the Club.
(sorry, don't know how this format happened)

Happy Birthday Scott! Celebrate well!

Here is a listing of common finings in beer and wine, none of which has a wheat derivative.
Could it be that the non-traditional wines may contain wheat as a fining agent? Don't know.
