Ya gotta eat good food.
Sunday make a big pot of stew:
Brown Stew Meat
Add 2 packs of Lipton ONION MIX (only one that is gluten free)
Cover Beef with water
Cook until tender
Add chopped carrot and clubed potatoes.
Add a little crushed hot pepper to taste.
.....Make a big pot and you can take it to lunch or have it waitng you for dinner. It is sooo easy, hardy and taste really good.
Make a big bowl of chicken salad
Home made soup you can freeze in individual servings.
Beans and Rice with Hillshire Kielbasa
Hard Boilded eggs with Boars Heads meats and cheese.
Shrimp Cocktail. Spriced Shrimp
Some of Amy's frozen dinners
Meat Loaf Sunday night, sandwitches during the week.

I'm so severely depressed right now that I don't know what to even do or say! I am sick of everything and I hate being depressed, but I can't snap out if it. I'm depressed and angry an the ame time and I really have had enough. I am so tempted to eat and drink whatever I want tonight and I don't even know why I have that temptation. I just don't understand anything at all in my life right now.
Walter, do you have some close friends that you can call on when you feel really down? Do you have a family, wife, children, or parents?
I know that you teach, but I am sure that you want to keep this out of you administration. I would strongly suggest that you find a shoulder,either personal friend of professional assitance that can help you work through your drepression. Find a buddy and talk.
I'll be thinking about you.

Interestingly, I am biopsy diagnosed but I don't describe myself as a "Celiac". I have celiac disease. I don't know why I make that distinction when I have no hesitation to say I am a diabetic.
I too, refer to myself as a person with Celiac Disease, rather a "Celiac" because that sounds odd to me. I also refer to myself a being raised in the Catholic faith but I am not a "Catholic". Neither one defines me as the person that I am, rather a culmination of many things.

Does any one have a link to the Delphi Forums List. I think I wore mine out and can't get it to open. I reference it often to help newbies. If anyone can post a link, it would be wonderful.

Oh absolutely Lisa! With a positive blood test she should have been diagnosed as celiac in the first place (a well-informed doctor would have done that). I've seen a lot of people here who have an official diagnosis based on blood alone.
So, yes. I believe that Joanne has actually full-fledged celiac. Not gluten intolerance.

Would positive blood work not indicate Celiac for Joanne? Can someone support my thoughts, regardless as to what she was told by her GI, being that her biopsy was not confirmed and therefore she does not have Celiac.
I do have a positive diagnosis through endoscopy and biopsy and I have no issue what so ever, if those that are not diagnosed call themselves Celiac. I do have an issue, if someone called themselves Celiac for simply diet control for weight loss as indicated in a recent article that was discussed here.
Whatever, however anyone needs to get the food that they need in order to keep themselves healthy, free of symptoms and pain, or to explain a complicated issue in simple terms, I see no issue.
I feel we are just one big family with similar concerns.

Does anyone else feel weird calling themselves a celiac if they have not been officialy diagnosed by a doctor? I have a hard time trying to explain what I have to people, maybe it is because I don't really know for sure if I have celiac or just gluten intolerance, but sometimes it is easier to say I have celiac than to dive into the whole explanation of celiac vs gluten intolerance and why I don't know since I had possative blood work but negative biposy, and with the gi specialist I went to you don't have celiac if you have a negative biopsy. Just wondering if anyone feels the same way I do. Can anyone who has been officially diagnosed let me know how you feel? Do you think I am calling myself something I am not, should I just say I have gluten intolerance and not try to explain so much to people?
Sorry for all the questions, I guess I am feeling a little frustrated with the whole thing today

You do have Celiac and you can call your doctor an (*), or very uninformed.. Your positive bloodwork is enough to confirm Celiac. Bioipsy's can rule Celiac in, but can not rule it out, and it can determine the amount of damage.
It never fails to suprize me that lack of correct information that gets handed out as fact.

When I read that you were about to take a bite out of that cookie...I yelled "NO" out load!! I bet you could here me.
I am relieved that you didn't and also relieved for you that the insurance is being re-addressed.

I would recommend getting some B-12 Sublingual tablets. You put them under your tongue and it goes directly into your blood stream. Or you can request some B-12 shots from your doctor. That helped me tremendously. I had shots weekly for about a month, then once a month. Now I take the tablets daily. I am sure that you will see a great improvement in your fatigue and brain fog. I have been gluten free for almost two year and I am about 95% back to normal. It takes time.
You may need to look into being anemic as well.
Regarding your backache...It was chronic for me for many years, but after being gluten free, I have had no pain (other than gardener's pain
)
It will take some time to heal and to get your body back. But everyday gluten free is one day closer to better health in all aspects.

Thanks for your reply. I am a little over my head in this. I was reading an article in a Woman's World magazine. I couldn't believe that all the symptoms that were talking about, I have. I have spent so much money going from doctor the doctor and all they can tell me is that I have IBS. I told the last doctor that I didn't except that and I wanted to know why I feel so bad and spend so much time in the rr. I am going to see a nutritionalist tomorrow and I plan on bring the article with me to see what she has to say about this.

I would stay away from petting zoos. Many times the children will be allowed to feed the animals with various grains and then pet the animals. BIG second hand gluten there.

I read that article also and I must add that it was full of inaccuracies. It made little mention that gluten can cause damage to the small intestings and left unchecked can lead to very serious conditions, for those of us that have Celiac Disease.
The article made reference to a food allergy. To many of us it is an intolerance.
If that article can lead you to a proper diognosis, that is a good thing. I would like to suggest that every thing you need to know about celiac of gluten intolerance can be found on this site.

Getting started means going simple at first. Start with meats, seafood, rice, eggs, potatoes and fresh veggies and fruit. All of this is readily available. Prepare them with limited spices. Salads are general hard to digest in the beginning.
Limit your dairy consumption and gradually reintroduce with after you are comfortable with the gluten free diet.
Make sure to check your shampoos, lotions and lip balms because they may find their way into your mouth and hinder your healing.
I know that you are most likely a little overwhelmed right now, but it does get easier.
Reading everything you can find on this site will be a tremendous help.

I do the BRAT diet. Banana, rice, apple sauce and tea. It help settle your stomach.

I am just at the beginning of a two-week gluten free diet as my dr. is trying to determine if I'm having symptoms of IBS or Celiac disease?
I've followed an IBS diet just on my own but didn't notice any significant changes in the way I felt however she said that my symptoms are so "vague" that there are many possibilities.
This has been on-going now for about 3 months and I'm just wondering what symptoms, specifically, would indicate Celiac's? Most days I have what I call and upset stomach but it feels more like just a big lump sitting there. I occasionally feel this in my back as well. I suffer from constipation on and off too.
Would someone please give me some insight into this. I would surely appreciate hearing some words of wisdom.

I had been diagnosed with IBS for many, many years and in the last three years prior to being diagnosed with Celiac, I too has chronic back pain. On three occasions, I was in bed for a week when my back "went out". I have not had a back issue since gluten free.
You have options here. You can try the diet and be totally gluten free and see what you dietary response is. This may take up to a months time to see improvements. For me I saw gradual recovery over a six month period. For all my neurogical symptoms to wain, it took almost two years and still not 100%, but close.
Secondly, you can return to a gluten diet for one months time and request some blood work done. But it is not always accurate. Your best indicator is dietary response. But, it requires you to be totally gluten free.

The thing that bothered me the most is that I paid money for it. I am sure that this was mentioned, but any thing that can encourage gluten free labeling or more products available, can't be a bad thing.
But on the other hand..
I constantly struggle to explain how I need my food prepared and I would not want a manager or waitress to go that extra effort because of a "fad diet", when in fact, it is a medical issue.

I contacted snuggles to see if all of their stuff was gluten free, and they emailed me back telling them that all of their liguids and sheets are gluten free

McCormicks Grinders are great. The entire line of Mrs. Dash's are gluten free and they have made my cooking life wonderful
McCormick's will clearly list. It is good to support those companys.
Regarding shampoo, I alternate between Dove and Suave....inexpensive, but works for me.
