  1. Gosh, when I saw the post topic about wind.........silly me thought it was about gas, bloating and toots.

You know your Celica if.... <_<

It's been blowing here about 30mph here for about a week. Across the street this week, they put a house on a barge to move it up river. They can't float it with the tug boats until to wind dies down. It was facinating to watch. Raising a house and rolling it onto a barge. What people can do?

  2. Stephanie:

I can understand why you are upset. I don't have a whole lot of family to relate to so I don't have the personal interchange with family. I am sure that it is difficult when you have family gatherings. You need to recall, when you first learned about Celiac, how difficult the concept is. I had never heard of the word before being diagnosed. You have lived with the symptoms. You know how important it is.

It is tough concept for those that have not experienced the symptoms. Sometimes, when you don't experience something, it is hard to comprehend. Celiac is not always black and white.

But it is always important that you are in charge of your life and only you can control your actions, behavior and your welfare. You can still have a family gathering if you prepare a little ahead. Bring foods that you can enjoy and keep them separate for the other food.

I would never want to be a burden on someone else to maintain my health. That can only be insured my me. Unfortunately, that's the name of the game these days, at least for me.

Love your family for that, fly low and lay low. Bring your food and smile.

  3. I have learned that lactose is absorbed on the tips of the villi. So it makes sense that with villi damage caused by a gluten intollerance, lactose cannot be absorbed and can be an irritant.. It is often heard here that dairy, other than gluten, can cause gluten-like symptoms, ie the BIG D.

I think that I can handle a little dairy, but not much. I don't have the brain fog with dairy that I have with gluten.

I have not had the joint aches, but a cronic back ache while on gluten and pre dx'd.

I don't know whether that is a help of not.

  4. Rice, green onions and boiled shrimps, is gluten free...Yes.

If you ordered out, the soy sauce may not be and most likely not. There may be a cross-contamination issue if ordering out. Many food that came before your order would be soy (wheat) contaminated in the same cooking wok.

Some are very sensitive, others are not.

When you order, ask when it is an off time for business. Ask how they can prepare you a meal that will be gluten free. Oriental food is always good warmed up and they can prepare it carefully before the rush for dinner.

  5. I just got a message from Celiac Central where you can view her Public Service Announcement.

They are asking us to contact our local affiliates to air this PSA.

I don't know how to post the link to the PSA, and hoping that others can. It would be wonderful if we could help get the information out. We have over 13,000 members here on Celiac.com. WE HAVE THE POWER!!!

  6. One more idea - for me, dairy gives more or less the same kind of brain fog as gluten. If you're still consuming dairy, you could try cutting it out.

    Pauliina

I have been gluten free for over a year and a half and have seen a considerable improvement. But recently, I have not been getting better, nor worse. I just don't feel well. Brain fog is an issue, speech and some motor skills just aren't what they used to be.

I thought I would do a dairy test. I ate two Yoplait Whips each day for three days. Guess what? The dreaded acid diareah has returned. I haven't seen that in a very long time.

So, off on a new quest. After learning to read labels and call on products, gluten free was not all that difficult to adjust to. I expect dairy will be much harder. Dairy will be mourned much more than gluten. Pitts <_<

I just thought I would "share" and perhaps dairy may be your demon.
