  1. I use Dove soap and shampoo with out issues. Once you learn to read lables it won't be a problem for you, but it will take come time to know what is safe and what is not..... Believe me, it is truely a slow learning process, but not one than can't be managed. It just takes time to learn alot in a short period of time.

We have all been through it and it does get so much earier. Take heart. There is an end to this short lived tunnel. Being gluten free is not all that bad, and you can eat very well.

Nini, on the site has a beginners starter kit that may be helpful to you now. I am sure that she would be will ing to send it to you. Just e-mail her.

Good luck, and ask away, someone is alway here.

  2. Jim and I has to go the beach for the day to do some business.. sooo after the business we head down the beach road.

Got hungrey and reluctantly went into Applebee's....knowing they had nothing for me o a major search.

Jim (husband) said to the waitress "Do you now anything about gluten free foods",.." I will call the manager".

So the manager comes to the table, "Please expain to me about glutten, I have never heard about it, what is it?". I knew is was in deep at this point.

So my husband decided to have some fun (perhaps at my expense). He says " She has ordered a salad with no dressing and it even has a bread crumb on it, it might kill her. ( so yeah the pecans on the salad were dusted with flour which I later resolverd - and brought my own salad dressing). They (the entire staff) were watching me during the entire time I was eating......they would check on me about every three minutes as I was eating. I should have pretented to pass out on the booth and really casue a panick

It was a funny situation, not enjoyable, as eating out is a pain in the butt. This is a fine example of educating the service businesses that we are out there.

  3. Joyce,

Yes there is a difference between an allergy and an intollerance I am not the best to answer you question as I don't know all the facts... but and allergy creates discomfort, an intollerence creates damage to your system. I am not an expert in allergies, because I have an intollerance.

If I ingest gluten, it is like ingesting rat poison to my system. If an allergy, it may show discomfort.

But.... this is where I am not qualified to go. Others will post.

  4. They are pretty laid back on the banks, but can very very helpful as well. I think that they have an Outback, that has a gluten free menu. If you go during off hours or call during off hours they can help you.

Best choice, as I do, is to get good fresh fish (soft shells are current), and cook them in house. Get some soft-shell crabs , rince them off, drip them in corm-meal and fry them in a pan. They will pop all over the stove if you don't cover them. Local corn is not here yet, but florida corn is really good this year. Boil potatoes with butter. Or, spiced shrimp with Old Bay is alway good at the beach with a fresh tomato and cuc salad, corn on the cob.... you can't get any beachier than that.

Have fun and have a happy time.....Lisa

  5. Eric:

Everyone is different, depending on the time that you have been gluten free. I have tried to be gluten free since dx'd in August 05. It has been a long haul. At first it was within a half hour. Then time time came that it was longer, and longer and longer. Today, if I get glutened it will take about 24 hours to feel the bloating, D, and brain fog. Unfortunatly, the brian fog hits first and the arms and hands start to shake.

The limbs shaking may be a side effect of Celiac. I will look into that after this weekend. If not Celiac, it may be associated with another autoimmune fellow.

If you are new to this, it will take some time for my body to heal, be patient, be dilligent, and careful and you will feel better soon. It takes time. Time to learn the diet and all that it includes, and time for your body to heal itself....But, most of all, it takes time for your mind to adjust to a new life-style. It is not the end of the world, it is just a change.

    Hope that was helpfu, Lisa

  7. When you are looking for the pot to boil, it never does.

Stay free, stay young and open minded. You will never know who is just arround the corner, if you're looking the other way.

All of you will find someone who will love you just the way you are. Find someome, who knows what you are thinking, that can finish your sentences, someone they knows what you need before you do. And, someone who puts your needs infront of his/her needs.....Then, Celiac, will never be an issue.

Good luck, and happy watching..... Lisa The're out there, you just have to look, sometime, it's right in front of you.

You're on a good start already. I didn't mean to get you freaked out.

    Here's a start: Gluten Free

Dove Shampoo, Pantene, Vidal Sassoon and others Neutrog. Shampoo.

    Dove Soap, Ivory, Carress, Dial

All Crest toothpaste, Arm & Hammer, Colgate (Ithingk)

Neutrog. most make-up and lip sticks and glosses, soaps

If you have a product of Neutrog. check the website on the package and write them, and they will send the the long list of their gluten free products.

Cover Girl lipstick are very tricky, as for me....some yes, some not. That's a pain. Alot of people use Basic Essentials, that are not available for me here.

It will alll work out, and in a months time, you'll be an expert.

    Hang in there, Lisa

  9. Hey<

I did not click onto the sites, but I want to add my experience.

At 35, I started to have breast sensitivity, mood swings, flashes. Sorry to say to all those going throught peri-med, but this lasted about ten years. The periods stopped first, but the flashes lasted on and off for about ten years.

My mother died at an early age, so I don't know the family history. Yes, I was early. And very glad to have it over at 50.

Lisa (PS: my husband is clueless, and still blames my mood on PMS, needless to say, it's all about him  ) ugg

  10. Leah:

Hello and Welcome here. I ha ve been doing this since last August. I can assure you this this is the best place to come with all your questions. I totally, would have been at a loss here without this site.

I am one year older than you, so we have similar issues in common, although, I am way passed the lady issues.

It truely is overwhelming in the beginning, but this too will pass. I would suggest that you read here on the posts as much as you can and keep a notebook by your computer. Write down products that you see are safe and questions that you may need to ask.

"Nini" , her post name, has a beginner list that would be wonderful for you to start with. She is one of our champions for the "newbees".

It truely does get better, and you will feel better as long as you stay gluten free. Please remember to check your shampoo, bath soap, toothpaste. lipstick....anything that can get into your mouth.

This is a very soft space to come. And, always, there are no stupid questions here, so ask away.

If you need beginner products, just list them, and we will name them as safe of not.

It will settle down, but the learning process begins now...Ask and we'll help. Lisa
