  1. Okay, I agree. But the person who began the thread wants answers to his questions.

What I would suggest that you start a new thread in anything but Celiac Chat Thread and we can go for it.

Believe me, being raised Catholic, I have plenty to say, but I may reserve my opinion because it may be offensive to some of the people I care about. I have very strong and heartfelt convictions. I know where I am and what I stand for. I believe what I believe, and trust me, I am most likely in the minority amoung people that are close to me. I keep it to myself as I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable or to begin a challenge.

As you see the world around you and watch the news daily, religion.....well, what more can I say as you watch the footage in Iraq, Afganistan, China, Iran, Alabama.

  2. I would just like to say that being raised Catholic, I understand the topic. I feel stongly that the laws of the church were designed by men, not God. Your faith is yours and attending church and not recieving communion, in my thought, does not deminish your faith or make you different. I have seen too many good Catholics recieve communion and stab their co-workers or employees or clients in the back when they were not watching. Your faith is internal and not recieving a host does not make you a lesser Catholic.

With that being said and I hope I did not offend anyone, we can start a new thread about sex (oops we already did that) or politics.

But I would rather get back to the thread as it began.

"A Celiac could not be a Catholic Monk, who bakes bread, drinks beer, wears maybeline mascara and who works in a Twinkie Factory for his secret pizza fettish." :P:P

  3. Why is that??? I've done work and travel in Western Europe and have not had issues finding food to eat! All I need is a grocery store and a kitchen, and a suitcase full of my staples!

Also, if Celiac is considered a disability by the military, I'm betting that it is protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and as such the Catholic church, and the military would be forced to make accomodations for us, and it would be illegal to be "discriminated" against by denying employment based on our disability!

Lisa Baker do you have any information or reference information on the military position that Celiac is a disability?????

SPECIFICALLY, I can't recall although it was in one of my several gluten free books. (perhaps they were refering to the the Draft, should it come up). :)

  4. Chantelle:

I think that your symtoms sound very severe to me and perhaps it is something else. I don't know of getting gluttened would last a period of three weeks with that severity of pain.

Do your have a primary doctor without going the the emergency room, or someone with a history of your medical record? Maybe an ultra-sound would show something. Kidney stones or gall stones may be the culprit, but I highly recommend that you see a doctor. If you have a blockage somewhere, it could be very serious.

Please see medical help, and I hope you will feel better soon. - Lisa

  5. Except for the desserts this listing looks very close to the exact diet I have been on the past 11 months. I think eating the mostly non-processed gluten free foods is the biggest reason I have not been glutened one time. One of my favorite cooking vessels is the crockpot. I have eaten all the leftovers that I have ever created. For this reason I am positive the food bill for my wife and me is definitely less than before the diet. Most of the time I prefer canned or frozen veggies as it is easier to control the amount used. Good luck.

Tom, good golfing in NE, NC FYI. Do you know where golf the word came from....Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden. WHO would have figured.

  6. I think that a cool dry place would gain them some life. Spread them out so they don't touch each other, perhaps in a garage or out building. I think that would help their life span. Those with "eyes" keep them separate and use them first. I'm not the farmer girl here, but a learning experience. Hope this will help.

PS: There are no DUMB questions on this site. :):)

  7. Jess:

I hope that I can call you Jess, or Jessica if you prefer. Celiac is a hard road to follow without support from friends and relatives. I have no relatives around me and many of my friends are following differents issues in there own lives.

That is why this site for me is so important. If I have a question about food, it will be anwered, as well as medications, feelings, depression, hunger or lack of it, relationships with friends, work mates, relatives, significant others, pains and aches, D or C issues, traveling....just to list a few, I can come here and it will all come clear to me.

Whatever you are going through, 9 times out of 10, someone here has been there and done that.

Do not feel alone, we have all been there no matter what our ages are. This is a support group that heps each other and it always gives me a great piece of mind that there are others out there that are going through the same thing that I am. Just because they aren't our neighbors or friends that we come into contact with we are here to help. And to top it all off, I know I have gained some very dear friends.

This is the best place for you to arrive. Check us out, ask away.

Hope this give you a little security, like a warm blanket. -------Lisa

  8. D & M:

Sometimes you just need to get it out of your system. When I feel bloated I take a Zelmorm and that helps with the gas. Alot of times, you just need to let it run it's course. Eating out is alway tricky as well as eating at friends homes. They might know your affliction, but not be necessarily as careful as you would be in your own home.

  9. Jessica,

The information that you're requesting is all here. Scroll down and type in a search for what you may be interested in. This site is SO packed with information that it would take you a week or two to digest all the information. For interest, type in recipies............all you would want to have.

Good luck and let us know what you came up with. If you don't see what you need, we are all her to answer questions. I'm not good at posting sites, but others will. (sorta like, old dog, new tricks  )

  10. Welcome to the forum, both of you. You both seem to have the right program and progress. It is always difficult to begin and it is truely overwhelming.

I use Dove shampoo and conditioner. Many people here use MAC make-up. Do a search on this site and pick up some of the posts. I use Clinique lip stick. I would suggest e-mailing Clinque and get their list. Deodorant has not been an isse for me, but I use Dove with no problem as it has little contact with my mouth, but have not check on ingredience.

You guys seem to have a good handle on things, but if you have further questions, that's what we are all about. Ask on.

    Lisa
