  1. Tiffany:

I have basically done well with the the gluten-free foods. (Still working on lipsticks, face cream and shampoo).

But it is the emotional fall-out , with the need to inspect everything that goes in your mouth that is making me TIRED.

It truely is a weiry task. I am one of the dumb bunnies that downloaded the Delfi-forum list and it shows up incripted on my computer....go figure...I didn't do it right and the computer wiz is at college in this household. Still working on fixing it.

THANKS FOR WRITING BACK. Lisa B.

  2. Hi to all that I have chatted with:

Lots of you guys are old hats at this gluten-free stuff and many are new, as I am.

What do you do when you get overloaded.

I actually have been dreaming of modified food starch/modified corn starch, natural ingred, spieces added....etc.

What do you do to chill-down a little and take this infliction step-by- step?

I guess, a little down tonight. The Dr. took six vials of blood to be tested for vitamin deficiencies......as my daughter would say "probley so with the brain fog mess".

I guess, a good night sleep and start over again and again and again...........

Emotions are hitting me now. Anyone there experienced the same ups and downs?

I would love to hear.... (think my chems are off .. so, there be I.)

    Thanks for listening.......Lisa B.

  3. I also wanted to add to my post that if you need to be in class, try Imodium Advanced. It is at most grocery stores and it will help you get through your classes and relieve some of the stress you have in sitting in class for hours. Stress will add to your diar. issue.

Do go look into a blood test for celiac disease.

We have all been there and you are in very good company.

    Lisa B.

  4. I went to an internist today and discussed low vit. counts. He told me that until the small intest. heal, nothing will be absorbed. He will recommend shots until healing can be noticed.

This might be good info. for those just beginning the gluten-free diet.

    Lisa B.

  5. Sounds very similar. I am not a doctor and don't want to interfere with what you have been told to do but.....if you DO have Celiac Disease, the fiber pills will only make your symptoms worse.

Ask your doctor to give you a blood test for celiac disease, it is not always conclusive, but it may give you a place to start. Other people here on the site can clarify what the blood test is called.

Keep monitoring this web site and you will gain alot of knowledge from many experienced people. Perhaps, going on a gluten-free diet would help your symptoms. It will not hurt you even if you don't have celiac disease.

If I know that I have to be somewhere and can't get out of going, I will not eat anything beforehand. This seems to help me alot.

Good luck and keep reading these posts

    Lisa B.

  6. My Brain Fog usually comes when I am typing posts on this board.

But what is most embarassing is when I am conducting a public hearing and I am try to make a legal statement and....all of the sudden I am at a total loss for words and everyone is looking at me, and the more they look the worse it gets. I try to scramble my brain for another choice of wording or stall for time for the right thought to mobilize and spit it out of my mouth. I once, recently, instead of calling the meeting to order, I opened up the meeting and "called the meeting to adjourn". Thought everyone was going to get up and go home........after two minutes into the meeting.....'BRAIN FOG TO ME'.

  7. I have not posted for a while. I went into celiac disease overload....know what I mean?

After positive endoscopy result, I am now to meet with and internist in the morning.. I have several questions:

Symptoms of large hiatal hernia - differing from celiac disease?

    Gastritis - same questions?

    Multi-vitamines in gel-cap form?

What to take for headaches and other pains?

Safe Antacids. (went to a health food store and got a liquid multi-vit. suppliment, opened it up to look at it and almost lost my lunch on the upside.) YUCK. I just know it won't go down.

Are there any other questions that you folks think that I need to inquire about. Many of you have been there and would appreciate any input.

    Lisa B.

  8. Hey Guys:

I know that alot of you have been walking in my shoes before me, but frustration leads me to write this post.

After 27 years, dig. with IBS by my prim. Doc. he finally realized that my symptoms were out of his ability to diognose. He sent me to a GI doc. in the next town. GI Doc. did a endocopy, colinoscopy, and biopsy. The biopsy was poss. for Celiac, Gastritis and large hernia.

Upon returning for the final consultation. .. I never have spent more that three minutes with the DR. and the Nurse Pract......plainly said "yup, you have Celiac.". I have had no conversation with the GI Dr. I had a list of questions, all the answers I knew, but hoping for her to expand the questions with information from her. NOPE. NO FOLLOW UP CALL FOR THE GI. DR., NO FOLLOW UP FROM MY PR. DR. .... NO NOTHING.

GI Dr. billed my insurance company for 3,230.00, my insurance paid l,101.61 and we owe $138.17. WHAT A RACKET !!!!!!!!!!! Darn (Da..) I should have gone to med school. I would never pay a lick of taxes for the rest of my life.

DO DOCTORS REALLY CARE, AND IF NOT WHY DON'T THEY, AND IF NOT, WHY ARE THEY DOCTORS.

Needless to say, I have a Sept 8 appt. with a new doctor who is an internist who has knowledge of Celiac. Hopefully I will be on the right road. I need help with diet, nutrition, and truely a dr. that is knowlegable and caring........

I know that many of you have been in this same position.

A little lost in Celiac Land....and Venting... ----------Lisa B.

  9. For those of you who crave the taste of pasta. Buy spaghetti squash, poke holes through it to let out steam and micro. it. When soft, cut in half, remove seeds. Take a fork and scrape the squash. It will look like spaghetti. Put in a bowl and toss with salt, pepper, butter and fresh graded parm. cheese. -- really good.

    O.K., O.K., I give in, UNCLE.

I know I am probably not going to have another beer for a long time. I live in such a rural area of northern N.Y. To give everyone a better understanding of this ,we just got 911 a few months ago!!!!!!!!!!!

So I guess I am going to have to get used to mixed drinks and with Labor Day picnics approaching I was wondering about maybe trying a gin and tonic.

I tried emailing Seagrams a while ago but they have not responded back to me.

    I would apreciate your help.

    Thanks ,

    Annie

    Annie:

Check the Safe/Forbidden list on this site. It will list safe "spirits".

Have a good picnic. Lord knows, we all need "good spirits".

  11. Haven't thought about dentisry.....? Mine is a good friend and I will make sure that her is aware of celiac disease's in his office. He is a bit hypocond. himself, so I am sure that he will make himself aware to the utmost. Thanks for that info. and so good to pass on. We all can learn from this. - Lisa B

  12. Kaitie: You are good for this question. I just posted a response to Dove. Instead of repy, I sent in on "Report". I thought that would be posted without the previous quoted letter. Guess not. How do you respond without using the repy which included the letter being addressed. Make sense? Lisa B.

Could you send me that list?

I have also been having trouble with makeup, shampoo, soap, etc. Hopefully I will get it down pat soon!  :D

    Hey Lisa:

Even I get confused. How about you be Lisa and I will be Lisa B. Is that good for you.? We often have the same question and the same name response. But I am the one who can't spell. I don't want to inflict that pre-dispostion on you. I also feel that it may be confusing to people who respond to us. So...If you agree, you be Lisa and I will change my signature to be Lisa B......

Please let me know asap as I will begin this upon our response. Lisa B?

No, not sick of you at all!  At first this celiac disease thing is scary, and living in a small town can make you feel isolated with this rather confusing disease.  (Did you figure out your post-oyster attack)  Anyhow, I haven't ever had problems with Crest.  I would steer clear of soothing lotions that contain oatmeal or cleansers with gritty stuff in them.  And then read labels, of course.  Alchohol isn't the bad guy.  It's when gluten containing products are used as fillers and extenders.  Like my CoverGirl blush. The second product was kernal flour.  What kind of kernal flour?  Well, underneath in French it is listed as farine.  Well, that translates into farina.  The dictionary defines farina as meal made from grains, which means anything which means there's a very good possibility that the blush is NOT gluten-free.  So I'll be pale until I can replace the my new now offlimits blush.  GRRR!  But keep asking away!  How else are you going to learn?  :)

Haven't been sick like that in sooo long. I do think that with a compromised system the off season oyster were not a good choice or the bar switched my choice (my new choice ) of drink. We are all locals and Canadian Club and 7 have always been my choice for years. Now it is Seagrams-7. This was passed on by someone on the site. It took two days and nights to recover and still have soreness. I also have a "large hiatal hernia" and symptoms are confusing to me. Doing my best to be gluten-free. Getting to be a good club here. Thanks for remembering!!

Chemist daughter says no Tylenol as binders are gluten. SO......headaches what do we do with what does not upset the intesties.

Just simple make-up, but gotta have the chapstick.........she says no.

Any subs.? Still looking for a basic start on toiletries....

    (PS.. I spell like celiac3270 is dumb)....he's not, and I don't. Lisa

  15. Thanks to all of you for your food help, esp. Karen. Graduating on to Cosmetics, Shampoos, Deod's?

Someone told me that Chapstick is not gluten-free - pray not. I have one in every pocket and several show up in the washing machine. Perfume, please not!!!

Could anyone start me off on US grocery products, don't have specialty stores in town of 6,000.

Shampoo, blush, lipstick, CHAPSTICk, face/body lotion (lubriderm?) I look for contents and did not recognize anything other than alcohol. Is that the bad guy?

Crest Toothpaste?. Those are my basics to start with.

Has anyone tried "Origins", perfume, creams and make-up. Have not called them as of yet.

A starter list would be welcomming. Thanks for your time - Lisa

(Name showing up alot lately, sick of me yet :).

I carry a small bottle of Pepto Bismo Caplets in my purse and they solve the problem if I accidently get into gluten.  Changed purses and no room for them.  Went to the dentist yesterday for teeth cleaning, small cavity and a broken tooth.  & 7 shots of novicaine and then the heart burn started.  And it stayed with me through all of my errands and the long drive home.  Took the Pepto and it went away.  Have no idea what caused it at the dentist.  I stay away from Tums, etc. because I am afraid to make the problem worse.

Just prescribed by my gastro dr. with Aciphex. (rabeprazole sodium). I take Prilosec, and pepcid. Prob o.d.ing on antacids. I started this topic with questions about tums. I don't know anything about the contents that my doc's have suggested or prescribed, but I think we all should look into these. Sometimes, the more I feel blouted, the more I take antacids and maybe they just don't work, or I feel more blouted because I take them.

Any information on the above antacids would be appreciated, and apparently to many of us. I know my GP would not have a clue about what I can put in my mouth or not as he treated me for IBS for 27years and kept hearing me complain.

Have not seen him since by poss. biopsy. Plan to totally educate him on celiac disease when I do.

WHAT IS A SAFE ANTACID, OVER THE COUNTER, OR PRESCRIBED? Any experts out there.

This thread is too much. I'm sitting here by self laughing. Anyway I just had to put my 2 cents in on this one.

You know you are a celiac...

1.When you are driving down the highway and the tallest plant you see is only 2 feet high and this scares you.

    2. You only make long trips in vehicle at night along the back roads.

    3. You have a roll of TP in every vehicle and a change of clothes.

    Thanks for the laughs, Susan
