Hey Babe! I really isn't the end of the world, but it might seem like it right now.
Being diagnosed with Celiac means that you have to be very careful about what you eat, at home and at school. And being 14, that's pretty hard to do.
Do your mom and dad have a good idea about what you can eat and what you can't? Can they help you make choices.
The key is to be totally gluten free, yet being able to hang with your friends and feel "normal".
You really should eat nothing with gluten. I can suggest some teen age food that you can enjoy with your friends, if you would like.

Celiac can be diagnosed with an upper GI? Do you happen to know how exactly? This would be much easier than being heavily drugged for a biopsy.
I think you may have misunderstood. Celiac can be diagnosed through several methods:
Endoscopy Exam/Biopsy
Serologic Antibody Testing
Positive Dietary Results
Possessive Biopsy Results of DH
Gene testing is non conclusive, but may be supportive if other methods of diagnosis are confirmed.
Testing negative to many of these methods does not indicate that you are not gluten intolerant/sensitive. There is no accepted method of testing for GS at this time. But a positive dietary response is a great indicator.
And back here to add...that there is nothing to the endoscopy exam. Nothing to fear. Piece of cake.

I LOVE them and so do my guests. They're great to serve and no contamination of my the dip or cheese spread...so I can enjoy too! Small pleasures are GREAT!

I just got very sick. This morning I ate Cadbury mini eggs while filling Easter baskets. According to the ingredients, they should have been OK, but I can't think of any other reason I am so sick right now. The only other thing that could have caused a problem is the Starburst jelly beans, but I thought they were gluten-free also. I am kicking myself for doing this. How could I have eaten them without checking online first? Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I eat the mini eggs by the bag full, and then I feel sick. Not from the gluten, but rather from the volume

I used your earlier link to contact them tonight. Did they ever respond to you, Lisa?
No nothing!

Thanks, are they good about CC? I have a good market here at homelike this and they don't get CC in their organic resturant. They make it gluten-free, but I've gotten sick when I was firt gluten-free because they didn't wash the grill after gluten wraps.
When you go, if you go...talk to the manager with your concerns. It's a small place, so you should get personal attention.

Ocracoke? They still make that?
They do. They welcome the "aways" in the summer and wish them "aways" in the fall.

We claim this buccaneer in local lore...... har har! And we are in constant search for his booty, at every dig. Under my home, perhaps?

This is for those of you who have been there done that! LOL Everytime I eat anything now whether it be dinner that hasn't been CC, or a fruit or a veggy, I bloat up like Im six months preggers!?!? Is this just my gut healing?
The pain now is my kidney, not the abdominal pain that I had before...just the bloating, is this normal?
It could be everything thing you eat until some healing can take place and the level of your damage. I'm sure you have read that it's advised to give up dairy for a month or two. I get lower back issues when my system does not clear as it should. It clears, it goes way.
Not too certain about the kidneys. Maybe a doctor's visit might be smart. We are not doctors, and wouldn't want to lead you to a benign issue, when it requires medical attention.

Hi. I have been reading through several posts about Bath and Body Works and Victoria's Secret products, but the posts are years old and I'm still confused about whether or not they are safe (gluten free, harsh chemical free). I am currently using Desert Essence body lotion since I am trying to only use the least harmful products (I am extremely sensitive to everything it seems), but I already have so many lotions, body washes, body spray's, etc. from both BBW and VS. I would hate to waste them. And I really like both of them, especially VS. I was just wondering how many of you still use these products, if you have reacted to them, and whether or not anyone knows for sure if they are gluten free. Just in case I ever want to go back to using the ones that I have already bought. For right now, since I am highly sensitive and still trying to feel better, I will continue to avoid them. Unless many of you know that they are pretty safe to use. ?? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Tracey
It might be best to contact the company and inquire about each individual product. Most products have a 1-800 numbers on the label.

Lisa has a way of wrapping things up.
AND I hate being cold too, even with the most handsome of Pirates.
But must admit that Mr. Sean Penn could warm me timbers no matter where we might be.
Harrrrr....

I'll be taking a trip to Ocean Isle NC and will be driving into Willmington for a day and thought to eat out there. I know of the chains there with gluten-free menus. The last time I was there I ate Chic fil a, but this time would like something different. I did a search of the forum, but would like some up to date experience. I know it is still my own risk to eat out, but would like to know of any good experiences. Thanks!
This is a great place for lunch and shopping gluten free:

They can prepare anything gluten free.
I love Lovey's, but a spend too much money on all of their gluten free products.

There is much interest on this topic. Perhaps a new topic:
"Autism Spectrum Disorder and Celiac Disease"....would be a great NEW topic.
Who would like to begin?
...so it won't be lost on this topic.

Welcome to the magical world of eating nothing but freaking Chipotle and yogurt for weeks on end! It's so fun.
Well, we gotta talk deltron80!
Allow yourself to be educated and lighten your BURDEN with a short google search. DC is very gluten friendly:

... and just being friendly, loose the yogurt for about six weeks.

It's a breeze. You're asleep. Then you wake up in another room & someone has to drive you home.
True, the anticipation is far worse than the realization.

I was gluten free for two weeks and I noticed a difference in my moods (I'm depressed a lot) but not for long, it would be like a high I suppose, I'd feel really great but then I'd level out to just being in between. I realize that there might be an underlying problem but I cannot see a doctor anytime soon so I need to do what I can in the mean time.
Has anyone here with diagnosed, depression, bipolar disorder or anxiety attacks seen an improvement when switching to gluten free? How long did it take to see a difference & how long did it last?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Waterlily, you have been a member for a while now. How can we help you stay on the gluten free diet for a while....so you know what feeling good feels like?
Going gluten free is not the answer to everything. But taking care of yourself is so very important, gluten free or not. Eating a healthy diet is so very important to a healthy mind.
Are you ready to feel better?

Once I removed the gluten, several weeks later I had issues with dairy. I gave it up for about a month and then tried it again, without issues.

He was not gluten-free at the time of the testing.
I tested positive to one of the gluten intolerant markers but neg for celiac and my biopsy was neg. I know it's from my side of the family though.. I have a celiac aunt. I have chronic bouts of diarrhea which lead to my biopsy but that was neg. I also have two other older siblings and I wonder about getting them tested. My oldest has chronic constipation, complains of stomach aches and in six year old lingo "burps into her mouth" which I suspect is acid reflux.
So do you think the shortened villi is enough coupled with a positive response to the gluten-free diet is enough to diagnose? Also, what else can cause the blunting of the villi?
With your family history, a positive biopsy and positive dietary response ----that's three out of the four criteria.
It appears that you have your answer.
Also, it recommended that you (they) go off dairy for a month or two. Almond milk would be my choice. After some healing takes place, cows milk can be often re-introduced successfully.
There are other causes of blunted villi, but very rare. Gluten it the major cause, as in conjunction with your childs symptoms.

Woohoo! While wasting some time waiting for the car's tune-up, I found that the local Safeway, maybe a mile away, is now carrying Redbridge!!
No more 9pm or bust BevMo, or further 10pm or bust WhFds while I'm usually working 7p-11p. (Yeah sometimes I pop out)
Now I can actually pick up some beer AFTER work, like a regular human .. .sniff .. ...I . . .I . . (noseblow). . .sorry, I told .. .sniff .. .myself I was NOT gonna cry . .. ..
Cheers Tommy Boy!

I'll keep this short and sweet. My son had a biopsy (resulting from severe reflux) which showed blunted villi and lymphocytes however his blood tests were negative with the exception of low IGA and IGG. The GI said it was nothing to worry about and to resume a normal diet. Since going gluten-free my son has solid poops and is much happier. We are even weaning him off one of his reflux meds. The pediatrician diagnosed him with celiac and is sending me for a second opinion. My question is: what is a "positive biopsy"? What exactly does it show? I understand the bloodwork is not accurate in making a diagnosis but what does the biopsy have to show for it to be celiac? Thanks!
Blunted Villi is pretty much an indicator for Celiac (although other causes, Celiac is primary), coupled with positive dietary result from the diet are diagnostic.
How long was your son gluten free when the blood test was take? Being gluten free will result in inaccurate testing.
Is there a family history with digestive issues, diabetes, fibro...?
Back again...Also blood testing is not always accurate in children under the age of 5.

Thanks for taking the time to do some research and sharing.
I love my Ancient Harvest Quinoa.

So sorry that you got 'hit' Marilyn.
I can't help but wonder if this is a practice at your particular Olive Garden. It's hard for me to understand that this could be common practice nationally.
I have not received a reply and hopefully I will in the next day or so. I searched for a phone number for corporate customer relations, but no.

Hope for a speedy recovery!

Welcome Bmann42!
Any body stress can kick in Celiac Disease, as in pregnancy, mono, surgery, bodily trama or just stress.
But instead of your OCD being the cause of Gluten Intolerance, the opposite might have happened. An underlying gluten intolerance (or predisposition) may have been triggered by your Strep Infection, and your OCD symptoms may have developed.
Try going 100% gluten free as best as you are able and your OCD MAY clear. Nothing ventured..nothing gained.
Isn't worth the chance?
