  1. I don't understand why you couldn't donate bone marrow. You have to be an EXACT match to the last HLA allele to donate/receive, right? That means who ever is getting your bone marrow already has the gene for celiac. Or am I way off base?
  2. Hi Everyone, In late July/early August, I will be trapping myself in a van with my two kids to go and visit my folks . I intend to pack a suitcase of gluten-free cereal, Envirokids bars, buns, etc. for Ty, but I am looking for info on where to buy supplies in Nanaimo should I need them. I doubt we'll be eating out much, we'll pack a lunch/snacks for...
  3. One of the gluten-free recipes has all purpose flour as an ingredient and it doesn't say all purpose gluten-free flour, so read ingredients before you get your heart set on it.
  4. Good for her. Last time I was volunteering at grade 1/2 the kids were singing some kind of song that must have been about farmers because all I could hear was the chorus: something about wheat, barley, oats. That same day on the table I was using were all sorts of boxes of cereal, granola all this stuff I can't even remember so when the teacher came in I...
  5. At our school's pizza day my son has Chicken Fried Rice. He had his own pizza the first time and all the other grade 1 & 2's were jealous because his was on a Batman plate, and theirs were in boxes. Ever since then he always has chicken fried rice. The fun lunch includes pizza or Arby's, chips and juice. Everytime I send him Guacamole Doritos or Cheese...
  6. No advice, but I hear you. On Ty's U8 soccer (under 8 years old) there is an eight year old boy who is barely an inch taller than Ty, and maybe 3lbs heavier. He's playing on U8 because they thought he'd get slaughtered on the U10 teams because he's so small. The mom is tiny (5'1") and the dad is about 5'10", both the boys are waaaay undersized for their ages...
  7. My son wears exposed boxer shorts, but he's 8 and it's because we can find boxer shorts to fit him, but his pants are all too big and too short. We can't find pants small enough in the waist and long enough. He's been wearing boxers since he was 6. I think it's a bit weird. He's the only kid I know who wears boxers.
  8. Everyone knows white bread isn't made from wheat...that's why all the restaurants ask if you want wheat bread or white bread. ( I couldn't even type that with a straight face. )
  9. In Canada, the only gluten-free Campbell's soups are the ready to serve Fiesta Veg, condensed Chicken with Rice and condensed Tomato with Basil and Oregano. I think they have a broth or two that are gluten-free.
  10. Thanks, Cheri. I'll try it next week. My husband is off this week and unless he's messing around in the basement he'll probably get in my way.
  11. I like "Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids" by Sheri L. Sanderson.
  12. Carrie, there aren't any Save-On-Foods in NW Calgary, but there might be one in the SW, can't remember where, or I think Extra Foods might be part of the Pattison empire. I've never seen Hardbite at Safeway.
  13. Cheri I've looked and looked and I can't find the recipe you posted...unless it's the Bette Hagman sorghum bread that you made in muffin tins. Is that the one? If not would you mind posting it? I am still searching for the perfect hamburger bun. Thanks.
  14. Drat! Good luck on Monday.
  15. Don't know if you have a Bulk Barn there, but my sister in Windsor called me in Calgary to see if we had one here. She said they have TONS of gluten-free stuff. Not sure about the cc issues though.
  16. TinkerbellSwt - how did your bread turn out w/o the french bread pan?
  17. Vanilla cupcakes are on her website. Open Original Shared Link
  18. Thanks Mamaw for the tip about not using it for buns. Maybe I'll try it one day when I need more breadcrumbs so either it'll work, or I'll get some breadcrumbs out of my efforts.
  19. Thank you! Now, do you suppose we could make it in a regular loaf pan or hot dog bun pan? I haven't even tried it and already I'm sabotaging my own efforts.
  20. Well, I've made bread that was practically a batter, no way in heck to shape it, so I don't know. I still have to try to find millet flour and trying to figure out why there's so much salt. I was wondering if the 2 tbsp should have been sugar.
  21. Maybe it's supposed to rise in the bottom of the oven and cook in the centre of the oven?
  22. Safeway is peculiar. Some of them have separate "Natural Market" sections with soy products, gluten-free stuff, organic stuff there, others have so-called specialty items mixed in with the regular groceries.
  23. Well, they aren't at the Crowfoot Safeway, so don't look there.
  24. Carrie, have you found these in Canada? Maybe I'm shopping at the wrong grocery. They'd be good for the Saturday morning junk cereal.
  25. We don't have Cocoa or Fruity Pebbles in Canada, and most of the kids around here eat the Nacho Cheese Doritos which are full of gluten. Good point on the Lays chips, though, plain Lays are readily available and so are Hawkins Cheezies in the snack size package.
