  1. You sound like you have a great start. I am the only one who has to eat gluten-free in my house. However, all of our dinners are gluten-free. It was too hard to try and juggle two meals. Plus the cc issue was huge. I do not do anything with regular flour. Just my personal decision, I don't want to be near the stuff. I also have one counter the gluten...
  2. For me I did get new non stick pans. My old ones had deep scratches. For everything else I just gave it a good wash. If I felt leary about it, I tossed it. So far, I have not been reacting from food that is also produced in the same facility as wheat. However, there are several people on this board that do and they avoid those products. It is really...
  3. I can't say I am a binge eater but I think I hoard food When I got my dx I started hoarding food. I just thought it was my mind trying to deal with the limitations of the diet. When I would find food that was gluten-free (usually junk food) I would buy it up. It made me feel good knowing there was food in the cupboard that was mine. I still have a...
  4. I have yet to try Bailey's. I read the same thing on their website. I do know of some celiacs who drink it with no problems. I am not saying it is gluten-free just that some do not have problems. Does anyone drink it? Anyone have a problem? Hez
  5. Is that a sign that the bread rose too quickly leaving large air pockets? Hez (who is not a good gluten-free baker, had lots of bad luck)
  6. I do not know how Denver would compare to Chicago. I have heard great things about the Chicago area. However, we do have Vitamin Cottage, Wild Oats and Whole Foods. I do not live in Denver (live an hour north) but have gone to Deby's. I felt like I was going to mecca! It was great eating there. Hope you have a great trip! Hez
  7. What interesting answers! I have to admit I would gladly take a pill if it would mean travel and eating out would be easier. I feel fine dealing with celiac in my own home. I can make my favorite foods and have found alternatives. But I miss worry free travel and eating out. Remember what it was like to look at a menu and not be limited to a salad? ...
  8. Nini, I wish I had something useful to say! I would be concerned more about the loss of energy than the weight. Maybe the blood tests will pinpoint something. It is so hard to work and raise a family when all you really want to do is nothing at all. Karen, I am glad you are not accepting the docs dx! Hez
  9. Everyone heals at different rates. Do not be discouraged! For me it took about 6-7 months for improvement with D. It also takes time to figure out the diet. Keep reading the post and search old posts for information. Welcome Hez
  10. I am so sorry to hear the crackers made you sick I have had them and have never gotten glutened. I remember reading the warning and freaking out! But I thought I read a post (must have been on this site) that said they are made on a separate line and due their best to avoid cc issues. Beverly, you may want to call the company to confirm this. Like...
  11. Coca Cola finally responded to my email. They informed they would have to "research" my question and get back to me. It seems like they have not tested it yet to see if it contains gluten Hez
  12. There is also PerkyO's and one other brand that have the cheerios look. I have not tried them so I do not know what they taste like. Hez
  13. I have never gotten sick from Quinoa. However, as a hot cereal and pasta I think it is gross. I do like quinoa as a substitute for couscous. Feel better soon! Hez
  14. JacobsMom- I heard (I think thru this board) that they were have supply issues with the rice crunch'ems in December. I did see both the corn and the rice the other day at Whole Foods so I would try again to see if they are in stock! Hez
  15. I miss egg noodles I hope there is a good tasting gluten-free option. Hez
  16. Please keep in mind I do not know what I am doing! I would love to have a picture of something by my name. I have figured out this is called a avatar. How do I get one? I googled avatar and still could not figure it out. Any help would be appreciated! Hez
  17. I e-mailed them. If I get a reply I will post it! Hez
  18. I found an ad in my Living Without magazine and I have to try Perky O's cereal (looks like Cheerios without the gluten)! I am trying to avoid shipping costs but at this point that looks like my only option. Has anyone found these at their grocery with other gluten-free items? Anyone ever tried them? What flavor did you like? I think they have a plain...

    ARCHIVED My Journey

Welcome to the board! I have found this board to be a life saver! It truly is a great group of people. Hez
  20. I have not contacted this company. However, I did find out that some of their products are gluten-free from the delphi forum. This is what I found there. Mahatma (www.mahatmarice.com) (1-800-226-9522) (vw=10/21/02) Dairy-free & gluten-free: White, Brown, Instant White, Gold, Authentic Spanish Rice Mix, Long Grain Wild Rice Mix, Southwestern Pinto...
  21. My understanding is that carmel color in the US is safe. However, carmel color outside the US could contain gluten. Anyone else have better info than me? Hez
  22. I really do not understand why your gi doc did another scope so soon. It takes a long time to heal. Even if you had been completely gluten-free with no mistakes I am not sure you would have seen a difference. However, I am not a doc so I should not second guess! I do know what my personal experience has been. I was dx in April and started feeling better...
  23. It sounds like your Sunflower is better than mine. There are some gluten-free options but I have beter luck at other places. Hez
  24. I am so sorry. It is so hard when people either are too dense or don't care enough to understand the complexties and challenges of a gluten-free diet. Karma will bite her in the a** eventually. Hez
  25. For me it is a food by food basis. Lately, I have been feeling really good and have become more hesitant about eating foods with those warning labels. I really do not want to be sick. Hez
