ARCHIVED Whole Foods 365 Brand Yogurt
hez replied to WGibs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My guess is that if it is not on the gluten-free list it is probably questionable. Whole Foods seems pretty good about there lists. Hez -
ARCHIVED Are My Party Days Over?
hez replied to mikeyfooos's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You have a lot of options when it comes to alcohol. I know Bacardi rum is gluten-free (I contacted the company). I do not question wine (personal choice). However, you may want to stop drinking for a little while to help your body heal. I have noticed that I no longer can drink as much as I used to. Someone noted that this may be due to the fact... -
I have not had a problem with the Outback I go to in CO. However, I make sure to go when they open. It is not as busy and everything is clean. I am sorry your son got sick. Hez

ARCHIVED Canned Baked Beans - Why The Warnings?
hez replied to IronedOut's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have seen some canned baked beans as not safe in the US. There is a specific flavor of Bush's beans and there are some chili beans that clearly have wheat in them (can't remember the brand). I have not seen just plain beans (kidney, navy, pinto) that have gluten in them. Hez -
There are only a couple of foods dh will not eat. Since they are so few I try and respect that. But he is missing out Hez

Had to laugh when I saw the turkey soup recipe My dh hates turkey soup! He hated before I started making all our dinners gluten-free. I think it looks yummy Hez

ARCHIVED Does Microsensitivity Ever Get Better?
hez replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since you keep getting glutened I would say that your body may not have had enough time. Does this make sense? I have heard from my doctor that over time I may not be as "sensistive" to gluten as I am now. But if I kept having cc issues than I might wonder if I have had enough time to heal. I hope I am making sense. I guess I am looking at the glass... -
ARCHIVED Splenda
hez replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Splenda is gluten-free. I use it occasionally and it works like regular sugar. I have a friend who is diabetic and I have celiac. So I figure a sugar free gluten-free treat on occasion won't hurt me. I am somewhat leary of all fake sugar though. Hez -
ARCHIVED Are We Never Going To Be 'normal' Again?
hez replied to danikali's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am trying to come to terms with the fact that what used to be normal for me no longer is. The physical part is starting to go back to normal. I have further to go in the emotional arena. For me I am trying to redefine what my normal is. I let you know if it works Hez -
I have similar issues. I have started to demonize the gluten. Not just in my head but out loud. My friends think I am nuts (this is nothing new, they thought that before my dx). I also know how sick it will make me. I really do think this is the hardest part, the emotional. Hez

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Been Glutened By Nestle Hot Cocoa Mix?
hez replied to danikali's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I could not handle milk after going gluten-free. It really messed me up. I have been gluten-free since April and have just recently started adding milk back into my diet. When I do have milk I take one of those lactose pills as well. That really seems to help. Never had any other issues with dairy (yogurt, cheese, sour cream) just milk. Also when... -
ARCHIVED Ragu Pizza Sauce
hez replied to SueC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Shredded Cheese
hez replied to Jen H's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know Kraft will not hide gluten in their label. You may want to try that. I use Kroger shredded cheese, I think they use potato starch. I know nothing about lactose free, sorry. Hez -
ARCHIVED Cheese?
hez replied to Lollie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lollie, I have found that the majority of cheese is gluten-free. However, after my dx and going gluten-free I noticed I could not tolerate dairy very well. Could this be the problem? It is very common for celiacs (especially after dx) to not tolerate dairy well. I have also read that some celiacs after going gluten-free notice they have intolerences... -
A friend asked the other day how I was doing. I have been gluten-free since April and feeling good since September. I could honestly say I felt great physically. The emotional side is an ongoing battle for me. I hate being different This disease makes me feel different. I have to bring my own food to family functions. Or I have to ask 50 questions...

ARCHIVED Grocery Store Break Down
hez replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For the first couple of weeks after going gluten-free all I did was gluten-free frozen food. It just seemed so overwhelming. Then I became more comfortable with the diet and started going to the grocery store. It was so hard. I kept seeing all the food I could not have. After coming home and sobbing I made a decision. I was not going to the store. ... -

hez replied to frenchiemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

Your Dad was probably diagnosed because he was outside of the US! The US really lags behind other countries when it comes to celiac knowledge and diagnosis. I hope your test goes well and you get the answers you are searching for. Welcome to the board Hez

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
hez replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Nini, I so understand your tears! One thing about this disease is it makes you feel different from everyone else. It was a small thing to eat french fries but a huge thing to be like everyone else. I do not understand why they had to mess with this. Hez -
