  1. When I get glutened I do not feel "normal" for 3-4 weeks. I know everyone is different but this first two weeks suck and by the third I am feeling more normal. By week 4 I finally feel good. Hope you feel better soon. Hez
  2. I use McCormick's cocktail sauce and Kraft horseradish sauce (I'm in US). Hez
  3. I am so happy for you Hez
  4. I have a bean dip I love. Just mix 2 containers of bean dip, taco packet, small cream cheese, small sour cream and some cheddar cheese. Put in 350 oven for 20 minutes and top with more cheddar. Very decadent! Hez
  5. I feel like a kid. I am so excited I can hardly stand it! My family is planning on going to Disneyland (CA) in March. I made reservations for breakfast and mentioned my gluten-free restrictions. This person was telling me no problem, they make gluten-free pancakes. Well, I knew this but for her to know this impressed me (all she does is take dining reservations...
  6. Thanks for the site. I love it! I have it bookmarked so I can go back. Hez
  7. Coke and Pepsi are gluten-free. I do not know about the soy. Sorry. Hez
  8. The ingredients you listed appear to be safe. Could it be a cross contamination issue? Is the sugar old or new? Could the lid of the ketchup come in contact with gluten? Maybe your body is still healing. For me foods that were gluten-free would sometimes send me to the bathroom early on. Hez

    ARCHIVED Hi

Welcome to the board! When I have been glutened I usually notice within an hour to two hours. Hez
  10. Based on my blood work I was told to go gluten-free before my endoscopy. Had my endoscopy 3 or 4 weeks after that. My gi doc could not find one villi standing up. So she was positive I had celiac before the results came back. I think it took about a week for them to call. I like to eat Mountain High Yogurt (says gluten-free on the label) and mix...

    ARCHIVED Insensitivity

I sometimes think we ignore or downplay the emotional side of celiac. I remember giong to a support group meeting and being brushed off. They just kept saying "it gets easier". And for the most part I agree, it does get easier. But for me it is hard being different. That is what it feels like. Eating has become a constant battle of reading labels and...
  12. My understanding is that in the US carmel coloring is safe (based on gluten-free Living magazine and I think this site). However outside the US carmel color can be questionable. Sometimes safe sometimes not. Hez
  13. I would call the company. But I do think it is legal to say "or" in an ingredient list. Depending on what they have at the time the food is made. Hez
  14. Ahhh, that explains it. I was looking at lotions not shower gels. Hez
  15. I have never worried about vanilla. Maybe I should Hopefully someone smarter than me will write in. Hez
  16. According to my gi the longer you damage your vili by eating gluten the longer it will take to heal. I do not know about others on the board but it seemed true for me. I was dx in April 2005 (went gluten-free right away) and did not start feeling better intil September 2005. Once you do start to feel better it helps. It is horrible to feel bad and not...
  17. I use One a Day for women. I have had no problems. Hez
  18. Parmesan cheese is safe. If you want the stuff I had as a kid (in a can) use Kraft, they clearly will label if it is unsafe. I have purchased shredded parmesan and just checked ingredients (the one I bought used potato starch to keep from sticking). When I have time I grate my own, it does taste better! Enjoy! Hez
  19. I remember being in there at Christmas time and getting very depressed All of my favorites have oats in them. I found a foot cream that did not have oats. Needless to say I left without a bag. If you have found some that are oat free please post. I would love to go and get a bag! Hez
  20. I eat popcorn from theaters but do not use the "butter". I have never had a problem with the plan popcorn. I usually go to Cinemark theaters. Hope you feel better soon. Hez

    ARCHIVED Always Cold!

I am cold alot as well. I assumed it was because I am small and a woman. I have heard that women's heat goes to the core of their body (biology-to keep baby warm). Hence why alot of women have cold feet and hands. Hez
  22. You are right that gluten cannot be absorbed thru the skin. However, I decided to have all my makeup, shampoo and lotions gluten-free. Why? Frankly it is not worth the risk of accidently being glutened. I would rather be completely safe in that department. I have enough to worry about without having to freak out in the shower. It is just easier for...
  23. The first time I got glutened it made me realize how good I had been feeling! I thought I had been glutened last week. Could not figure out for the life of me how it happened. Then my dh and dd got sick. Turns out I probably had the flu Even though McD's fries are supposed to be safe you always run the risk of cc when eathing out. It might...
  24. I know lots of people enjoy this cereal. I just miss the orignal puffins and am always disappointed when I eat the honey and rice. Hez
  25. When I first got my dx I seemed to be crying on a daily basis. Everyday I would find something else I could not have. I cried over communion, not being able to eat my dd girl scout cookies (she is 4 and not even a girl scout, I am a planner), not eating my childeren's wedding cake (again ds 7 and dd 4), eating out and the list goes on and on. For me crying...
