  1. Oatmeal in the diningroom should be safe in your case and any prepackaged yogurt is usually fine (read the label). We never eat at the specialty restaurants as we were told that for the most part they were not set up to handle gluten free (e.g. Pizza or burgers) and we travel in such a huge group. I would talk to the manager at the Chops Grille since most...
  2. See my posting today regarding Royal Carribean. Basically, the diningroom is the ONLY SAFE place to eat. We brought our own gluten-free snacks and snuck a few pieces of fresh fruit off the ship to consume during port days. We survived! No, the cruise line will NOT pack you a lunch to go. I am sure they have restrictions at each port regarding food...
  3. Whew! It is so hard to "read" between the lines! I confess I was a little worried, plus, I did not want to offend you. Glad to hear that you are feeding them well. They will get used to good food. Just keep presenting it to them. My 14 year old would rather eat healthy. I beg her at times to eat fast food when I am in a pinch, but she rarely...
  4. Adasmama, I am on a LCHF diet which is comparable to a Ketogenic diet. I have been on this diet for over a year and a half and am doing it because it manages my blood sugar levels well (am a diabetic). Managing my blood sugar and remaining gluten free is my best bet for good health (not to mention avoiding amputation, blindness and kidney failure...
  5. Hi! RC was wonderful, but there is only so much that they can do to insure your safety. So, start with a clean slate as far as your past experiences and expectations go. Hopefully, your family will cooperate so that you can all enjoy the trip! You can bring your gluten-free snacks or special dressing on board (purchase at your starting port...
  6. We had a great experience twice on RC. Will write more in a few hours. Have lots of tips! I am heading out the door!
  7. Is there any way for another GP or your current one to test you for celiac disease? It would help not only you (diet adherence) but your children (getting tested). Waiting for September is too long. Chances are your GI is either going to recommend a gluten challenge or you will be left in limbo land - undiagnosed. I am diagnosed but my husband is not...
  8. Have you read the DH section? You might find it helpful. I am not knowledgable about DH, but I recall that food high in iodine trigger the DH rash. I have not read that sugar impacts it. I have not had withdrawal symptoms (never gave up coffee) so I can not help you there. Hang in there. It is hard dealing with celiac! Hugs!
  9. The endoscopy has been considered the "gold standard" in diagnosing celiac disease (see the University of Chicago's celiac website for more information). However, it is up to you. I decided to do it, because I could not believe I had celiac disease! I tested positive to only one of the tests. Anemia was my main symptom and heck, I already had a genetic...
  10. The learning curve for remaining gluten free is steep. It sounds like you need to do more research on celiac disease or NCGI and the damage it can cause. Review the forum's Newbie 101 thread under the "Coping" section to learn about cross contamination and hidden sources of gluten. In any case, if you're going to continue the diet, you can never cheat...
  11. I have used chopped dates and mushy bananas as a binder and it works!
  12. Some folks with celiac disease experience diarrhea, constipation or both! I think your undigested food and fast transit time is due to celiac disease or SIBO. Address those and and do not worry about low stomach acid. Be patient! . It can time a long time to heal!
  13. I can not comment on the visual results of your Endo/Colonoscopy because I am not a doctor and do not have a clue! . I can comment on the diet. I would try to follow both the gluten-free and SIBO diets for a few months if I were you to eliminate SIBO. I am sure, if positive for SIBO, you will need to follow a strict regime of both drugs and diet. My...
  14. Transit time can really slow down when you have untreated celiac disease. I had a BM daily, but did not realize that it food was traveling slowly until I prepped for my endo and colonoscopy. No worries there.
  15. You have to go "hole hog", unfortunately. Like gluten, corn is everywhere! Hopefully, Bartful will chime in. She has recovered from a corn intolerance -- so there is hope!
  16. That's it....fruit bars. Yep, they just contain fruit and they are certified gluten-free too! Think about making your own. Check out the Internet for recipes. Just make a pan of your own bars, cut and wrap individually and freeze in a large zip lock bag.
  17. That sounds like plenty based on my research. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  18. I am so sorry for your loss!
  19. I suppose I am on a version of the keto diet. I do consume dairy in the form of butter, cheese, cream and yogurt. I went low carb, high fat to control my blood sugar. I basically "eat to my meter" and carbs will raise my blood sugar. The carbs I do consume can be found in yogurt and veggies "grown above ground".. I do not limit my veggies at all and...
  20. I have taken the Kirkland (Costco) version of Zantac and have not been glutened. I think you are safe to take that version if there are no gluten ingredients listed on the label.
  21. Hang in there! Luckily, your endoscopy is this week! Eat as much food as you can (even gluten) until all testing is complete. Humm...be sure to follow the prep procedures. When my gallbladder stopped functioning, you bet I lost weight fast. Why? I was afraid to eat as eating meant horrible pain. I bounced right back and so will you. Someday, you...
  22. Has she been taking the iron supplements to increase her ferritin level? Has she been eating iron-rich foods? Has she been strictly gluten-free -- meaning any chance of getting gluten from a hidden source? Did you eliminate oatmeal as one poster suggested? Is she eating lots of gluten-free proceessed junk food and getting more than 20 parts per million...
  23. Powerofpositivethinking was not losing weight either. Click on the first link to her member page and then hit the reputation button. She wrote an article that you might find helpful. I tried to link directly to the page but was not successful. https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/user/54338-powerofpositivethinking/ https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic...
  24. If I recall, one of our members PowerofPositiveThinking had some enzyme issues. You might search for her postings (she did get better!). I think she also had pancreatic insufficiency (PI). The enzymes were a prescription and not Over the counter. I am mentioning it because it was hard for her to get a diagnosis and you did test negative on PI. Here...
  25. You sound normal for a celiac! Just keep eating gluten until testing is complete (endoscopy/biopsies). In these meantime, research our Newbie 101 thread under the "Coping" section. Learn about cross contamination. Create a plan that will insure healing and with that -- weight gain. During the endoscopy your GI should test for SIBO as well. Welcome...
