ARCHIVED Best Tortilla?
cyclinglady replied to MissyBB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am on the same quest. While in England, we at the best wraps at Costa's, a coffee shop comparable to Starbucks. We ate those gluten-free chicken wraps several times and they were soft and delicious. -
What? Must be over 126 pounds to build bone? Yikes, I will never hit that weight! I did get two fractures in my back just laying myself down on the ground on my tummy before passing out (too much fried gluten-free chicken and post gallbladder surgery, I guess). Ended up in the hospital because I complained that my back hurt and I could not get off...

I had a dexa scan last July after fracturing two vertebrae (T7 and T9) doing nothing and just after four months of getting my celiac disease diagnosis. It showed 1 point just above osteoporosis (officially osteopenia) but my doctor suspects osteoporosis in my upper back. I did some reasearch and asked for hormonal therapy (bio-identical) since I was within...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Diabetic Friendly Cereal?
cyclinglady replied to JesikaBeth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Any gluten-free cereal or grain causes blood glucose spikes for me, especially in the morning. So, I avoid cereals. I eat veggies and protein for breakfast now. -
ARCHIVED This Is Extremely Bizarre.. Any Ideas? Help!
cyclinglady replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Too much coconut! Moderation is key. Perhaps you should loosely rotate your foods? It might help prevent allergies or intolerances from developing. I offer no scientific evidence though.... BTW, I have a coconut intolerance.....used to be able eat coconut, but developed an intolerance after buying coconut milk and consuming it everyday. Now I avoid... -
ARCHIVED Don't Know What To Do
cyclinglady replied to strum's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was formally diagnosed last year, but my husband (who has been gluten-free for 13 years per the advice of his doctor), was not. It was hard for him to comply with the diet in the beginning, but after a while he realized how much better he felt. He gets sick if he accidentally gets glutened just like me! So, it is possible to go without a formal diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Shampoo, Conditioner & Body Wash
cyclinglady replied to Lorna Dune Cakes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love Costco too! Have been using their shampoo and conditioner that you mentioned for years. Have not tried the body wash though. Each store is slightly different. Mine is old and small. More gluten-free products are often at the larger, newer stores. -
I wish I knew! Time seems to be the best solution. Hope you feel better soon!

Not local, so we ate at Five Guys -- just burgers.....

ARCHIVED Waiting For My Test Results
cyclinglady replied to cookiestastegood's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor was wrong. Keep eating gluten until all testing is completed. That includes a complete blood panel and a biopsy. My blood test was barely positive, but my intestinal damage was severe. My husband has been gluten free for 13 years, so our household was gluten light. I still ate tons of cakes and cookies all those years though. I consumed... -
ARCHIVED Waiting For My Test Results
cyclinglady replied to cookiestastegood's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was diagnosed last year. Went for a routine colonoscopy consult. Doc suspected celiac because I was anemic. Have one genetic anemia but was iron deficient as well. Tested positive on both blood tests and biopsy. Had severe intestinal damage. Suffered two broken vertebrae a few months later doing nothing! I had no idea that I had issues with gluten... -
Hey all! I am back from my 12 day Baltic cruise. Hats off to Royal Carribean for going out of their way to make us safe. For snacks they offered Udi's pizza, fruit and packaged Udi's cookies at the 24 hour coffee shop. Ate all meals in the dining room. Two head waiters took really good care of us. They even talked to us about food selections and cc...

If I consumed coconut or almond milk, I would have D every single day (that includes all milk products too). Perhaps you have an intolerance to either of them. Something to consider.......

cyclinglady replied to africanqueen99's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Same with us! Now we are just happy to find a place that will not gluten us! -
I have been to Five Guys there and that is it. Ruby Falls is lots of fun if you have time.

I am in the UK this very minute. My B&B caters to celiacs in Bath. I travel with toaster bags and purchase bread on my own. We have found a few G f restaurants on the internet. Purchased food at grocery stores like TESCO and Sainburys to picnic in parks or in our room. Travel with a collapsible mini cooler. We are going on Baltic cruise, but I plan...

ARCHIVED Drying Lettuce And Other Greens For Salads
cyclinglady replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bought cheap salad spinner years ago, and it was the best investment! I think I paid less than $10 for it. I use a plastic lettuce knife too to prevent browning. Easy to clean too! -

ARCHIVED Carry-On Dinner While Flying?
cyclinglady replied to christianmom247's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
PF Chang's at the Atlanta airport was great! We are eating there on the way back home. Bad news that since we missed our flight to London (mechanical difficulties) we did not get the gluten-free meals we ordered because the new tickets for a new flight were re-issued less than 72 hours (yep, that is the policy). Of course two Delta employees both verified... -
ARCHIVED Carry-On Dinner While Flying?
cyclinglady replied to christianmom247's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I just flew Delta. On my first leg, they served peanuts. On the second leg, they did not. I asked why and was told that there was someone with a peanut allergy. Why not announce it on the plane for those who carry it on? But, in retrospect, we asked to be some of the first to be off the plane to make our connecting flight and the flight attendant made... -
ARCHIVED Places To Eat In Atlanta...
cyclinglady replied to africanqueen99's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Fox Brothers BBQ is downtown and they offer gluten free (no gluten in their sauce). We have eaten there safely and it is really good. Lots of people there. My brother goes there all the way from the suburbs. Fishhook Grille (very casual) is gluten-free friendly. Nothing on the grille ever has gluten. Stoney River is gluten-free friendly, but pricey...
