  1. Continue to lose weight by making healthy food choices. Then increase your exercise and lift some weights to build bone and muscle. Going gluten-free does not mean weight loss will occur. I just started baking gluten-free cookies and cakes! I did lose and have maintained my weight on a low carb high FAT diet for diabetes. I basically eat to my meter...
  2. L-glutamine has been documented as being helpful for intestinal healing. There are some articles about it on PubMed. I used it and I thin it worked (no proof), but the mind can also play in healing!
  3. Snoring is one of my husband's first symptom to appear when he consumes gluten (irritability is up there for both us per our daughter). His chronic sinus infections and horrible snoring are a thing of the past, along with fatigue, body aches.......he was not formally diagnosed (bad advice from two doctors), but has been strictly Gluten free for 13 years...
  4. I probably would have done the same thing. It is just not worth worrying about it.
  5. I definitely think you need more time to heal. Here are some more tips: -- give up all dairy for a while. You might not just have a temporary lactose intolerance, but an allergy to milk proteins (casein) and allergies can develop at any age. Re-introduce it later when you are symptom free. -- take L-gLutamine to help heal your intestinal tract -- take...
  6. Grilling chicken wings and zucchini tonight with salad. Prepping food for camping this weekend at the beach. Tomorrow afternoon, I will be reading and drinking a glass of wine with my old faithful lab lying next to me in the sand! Can not wait!
  7. So, reading some of your older posts, I saw that your siblings have been diagnosed with celiac disease. Your doctor just told you to go gluten free without testing? Anyway, if you have celiac disease (highly likely based on your postings), it can mess with your liver from some of my research. Adhering to the gluten-free diet should help resolve liver...
  8. You are not failing! Going gluten free has a steep learning curve. On top of that, healing takes lots of time. I did not feel any improvement (even the slightest) until I was six weeks into the diet. Learning curve? Easy for me since my husband has been gluten free for 13 years! I did not start to feel normal until six months into the diet and...
  9. Ha, ha! Me too! On a serious note....I did take L-glutamine for months after I was diagnosed (per recommendations on this forum). Did it help? I can not say for sure, but I thought it did and the mind can do a amazing things in terms of healing. I keep it in hand for accidental glutenings. It does not eliminate my symptoms from a glutening, but I...
  10. My only symptom for was anemia. I had no gastrointestinal issues. Try to be patient and wait for your results and I am assuming they did a celiac blood panel......i hope you find your answers!
  11. I agree with Nicole. We have plenty of boys who were a bit chubby as early teens before shooting up in my husband's family. Their Dad's got them into surfing. Now they are strong, tall, and muscular! Just be sure he is eating enough healthy foods and not lots of junk. Now that it is summer, my 13 year is making her own lunches. I have to remind her...
  12. I would stop all over the counter drugs. Instead, just drink lots of water, eat at home and be patient until you see your doctor. Wish I could offer better advice, but that is pretty much the standard for a glutening. There are no easy fixes! Hope you feel better soon!
  13. This is a bit off topic, but I thought I was getting glutened even after 6 months of being gluten free. It was impossible because my husband was not reacting (he is my canary). Determined it was Xanthan gum added to many processed gluten-free breads/flour mixtures. Just an intolerance -- not related to Celiac Disease. My husband does not react to it...
  14. Tough it out. Tylenol does nothing for me and NSAIDS could kill me (I am highly allergic to them). But I do not want to leave you in a lurch, so maybe acupuncture or acupressure? Biofeedback? Just think about floating on a raft on Lake Lanier, water lapping on the shore........
  15. Sounds like you could have celiac disease. Here is a link to the University of Chicago's website regarding testing: Open Original Shared Link I have Hashi's with super high antibodies too! Having multiple autoimmune disorders, like celiac disease. And Hashi's, is common. I only had anemia as my main symptom for celiac disease.
  16. Glad it all worked out!
  17. Vacuum first and then just soap and water. Bleach eliminates bacteria, but not gluten. I would just wash your oven mitts a couple of times. We celebrated our 25th anniversary when I was diagnosed, so I used that as an excuse to buy lots of new goodies for my kitchen. Have fun!
  18. So sorry! Feel better soon!
  19. My husband went gluten-free 13 years ago at the advice he received from my allergist and his GP. No testing was done. His symptoms resolved. There is no way he would ever do a challenge and I can not blame him. I was formally diagnosed last year. What are the odds that both of us have issues with gluten? Hubby will tell you that I have received more...
  20. My stomach twinges, I burp and I feel like a rock is in it when I first get glutened. I hope you feel better soon. Mexican restaurants are no safer than others. Sure, you can order tacos, but be sure they are 100% corn soft (not fried) tortillas as some are now adding wheat to make them more appealing to gringos (and pliable). Ask to see packaging...
  21. You may be experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Continue the gluten-free diet and check every single ingredient for gluten. Be sure to eat lots of healthy whole foods to avoid weight loss. Take care!
  22. My daughter has these and she does not have celiac disease. Look it up. Often it is related to simple trauma to the nail. They go away as the nail grows out. More can appear if the nail continues to receive trauma.
  23. Aw! my cousin works for UMC and they were not able to diagnose her. She went gluten free since her mom went gluten-free per the advice of a chiropractor and had an excellent recovery. With my official dx, and sharing the same autoimmune- infested genetic line, we think that celiac or NCGI Is applicable to her. She is doing well except when she accidentally...
  24. Even if your doctor refuses to officially diagnose you with celiac disease (and he/she should based on your blood test), I think you should go gluten-free. I have an officially diagnosis, but my husband does not. He went gluten-free 13 years ago per the advice of his GP and my allergist. Wish now that we have a diagnosis (or maybe not for things like...
  25. Nicole, what more can I add? Everyone has said it so well! Do not give up! If I have learned anything from all this is patience (and I do not have much of it). Just when I think something has resolved, something else pops up. Things have improved since my diagnosis at the end of March 2013. My anemia has resolved, my fractures healed, bones building...
