  1. Good grief. I never thought that an AN-PEP enzyme should replace a gluten free diet. I do not think any of you thought that either. I do understand that some people might think this is the case which is one of the many reasons large celiac groups are not recommending it. Even in conjunction with a gluten free diet to prevent a gluten exposure, I would...
  2. No, her chances are much lower getting a celiac disease diagnosis, but not impossible. Please review Rose’s post. She is not IgA deficient. She had a negative EMA and TTG IgA. Unfortunately, she was also on a low gluten diet at the time of her blood draw. That complicates things even more. This study shows that the possibility of her having c...
  3. I think you might be mis-informed. Rose had a slightly positive TTG IgG and a normal Immunoglobulin A level. This complicates her her path to diagnosis. Slightly raised levels can be due to other illness. She is fortunate that her doctors ordered an endoscopy.
  4. Are you looking for jello or pudding? I just made several puddings this week. I used cornstarch (labeled gluten-free) in two recipes (chocolate and banana) and a rice pudding. Pudding is so easy to make. I buy regular jello gelatin in a box and add water. This confirms that it is gluten free. https://www.beyondceliac.org/gluten-free-diet/is...
  5. Anyone want to still discuss this topic? It was started under a Pizza Shop thread that we hijacked. I am not the best volunteer moderator and I am not going move everything, so go to the link if you want to catch up or copy your comments: I do like a good discussion. ? My current position is that digestive enzymes have not been recommended by...
  6. Celiac centers are kind of wish washy about the length of time for a gluten challenge. The goal is a daily dose of gluten which is about a 1 to 2 slices of bread or equivalent (what you listed seems like enough). The time ranges from six to 12 weeks. If you can tolerate it a bit longer, go for it: 8, 9 or 12 weeks. I made my kid, who did not develop...
  7. Dang GFinDC! You are so on top of things! And me, I had a non-functioning gallbladder that became infected. I guess I just try to block out those memories. Good call. ?
  8. I am sorry you had a gluten exposure and your celiac disease is flaring. My coping tips are drinking water and consuming mushy, easy-to-digest foods because anything hurts to digest. It can take me a month or longer to recover. The last time I had a gluten exposure, I developed chronic autoimmune hives and had gastric issues that would not resolve. I even...
  9. I am so sorry that your daughter is ill. My heart goes out to you. I get it. I have an 18 year who survived that final year in high school while being very active in extracurricular activities. Wait, what am I saying? I do not know how I survived it! While my daughter does not have celiac disease (tested twice), she has some different health issues...
  10. Very well stated. ? I do think we have hijacked this thread. Maybe it is time to start a new thread for discussion. My apologies to all for getting off topic.
  11. One study was done with self-reported gluten sensitive people while the other studies were done on healthy people and/or in vitro. In the study that included celiacs, sample size was tiny and the duration was too short. Promising, but inconclusive. It stated that more studies were needed. It did not recommend the product. I am not a scientist...
  12. Thank you so much for letting us know. Your post is bound to help someone who has comparable results. Are you going to trial the gluten-free diet? It might help with your current issues (migraines, osteoporosis, etc.). Even consider an AIP diet to trial. I honestly think a non-processed Foods diet is what most people need. Real food. All those...
  13. Hi! This link to the Celiac Disease Foundation does a good job listing tests: https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/treatment-and-follow-up/ Besides, the celiac blood tests (TTG and DGP), my doctor runs a thyroid panel (because I have Hashimoto’s and thyroid issues are common in celiac disease) and he does a CBC, ferritin, iron, because I...
  14. Find out what is the root cause of your Gastritis. Your GI should provide you with the pathologist’s report. You are entitled to all your medical records. In my case, I had a repeat endoscopy which showed a healed small intestine (I was doing a good job of being gluten free). However biopsies revealed Chronic Autoimmune Gastritis (no h. Pylori) ...
  15. Here are the tests: https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/screening-and-diagnosis/screening/ You can remain gluten free. My hubby went gluten free 12 years before my diagnosis per the poor advice of my allergist and his PCP/GP. But the diet worked. He refuses to do a challenge. While he says I get more medical, family and friends medical support...
  16. Any chance of getting an appointment sooner (cancellation)? ? Any chance of you living in a place like California where you can legally get marijuana? I hear that it helps with nausea. My heart goes out to you.
  17. I still like this topic. What studies? I have been to the Gliadin-X website and can not find any randomized, controlled trial studies pertaining to this particular supplement. Most of the studies listed are not even related to this particular product. The studies on enzymes generally conclude that while promising in theory, further studies are...
  18. Know that about 10% of celiac disease patients are seronegative. Know too, that not all celiacs test positive on the commonly-used screening TTG. In my case, I test positive to only the DGP IgA, yet I had intestinal damage. If my doctor has not ordered the complete celiac panel, my diagnosis would have been missed. So, you might really have celiac disease...
  19. My lactose intolerance resolved once I healed from celiac disease. I buy Breyers which is labeled gluten-free on most of their ice creams. Those are made in a dedicated facility. No shared lines. Sometimes piece of mind is priceless. Soy intolerances/allergies are common. Sure it is not soy? What about one of those gums? Some celiacs,...
  20. Make sure those specific celiac tests (TTG, DGP) are run by your functional medicine doctor. The DGP is better than the TTG for dietary compliance depending on which celiac expert you ask. Know that some celiacs can be refractory (very rare), so an occasional follow-up with a GI can be beneficial. Dr. Fasano, a PED GI celiac researcher, had one teen...
  21. Great! Move forward and look forward to healing. ?
  22. I agree that Amanda should probably go gluten free now. Why suffer? Time to heal! She has all the test results in hand. But it would be nice to have an official diagnosis (maybe she has one from her second GI) and a GI or PCP who will support her (like talking about the papers she has brought in to discuss). Getting your insurance or doctors to run...
  23. What is very important is receiving follow-up care for celiac disease. Has your son healed? Does he get annual check-ups? Are all his celiac antibodies tests normalized? His emotional well-being could easily be due to active celiac disease. Estimates are as high as 30% of celiacs are not healing and that they are still getting trace amounts of...
  24. I eat eggs every single day. Real food. My theory is that I was unable to process the synthetic version that was added to soy milk. Adding it to soy milk makes sense since often vegans do not get B-12 in their diet. Now I can eat dairy with ease! Your body stores 3 to 5 years worth of B-12 in your liver. No need to supplement unless you have a...
  25. Ohio? Huge opioid market. Maybe they need more income? If they are not willing to work with you, better to shop around. You can work with a PCP doctor. I see my GI when things are really off. Both my doctors follow all the guidelines.
