  1. Some people (me, included) are sensitive for whatever reason to oats, even if they are certified gluten free. The same goes for quinoa and I love that stuff (w/chocolate and bananas!) I have gluten-free oats and quinoa stored in my freezer that I'm hoping to be able to eat in a few more months. These grains don't bother my husband, but he's been gluten...
  2. We have El Pollo Loco and it's gluten free! Yummy!
  3. No, I can only get a potato, chili or a salad at Wendy's. No fries! Stick with Five Guys. I used to buy Alexia Frozen Fries, but they've expanded and now are produced on shared equipment. Will have to roast my own potatoes, which I like, but they don't appeal to my daughter! And yes, each restaurant (even if it is a chain) is dependent on...
  4. Just scrap or use a paper towel to wipe out most of it (and save your drains from clogging). Use hot water and wipe with a cloth. Be sure it's dry. If the pan looks dry, then re-oil it. Even if there are little particles left over, they are cooked away (like your BBQ grille). Just heat the pan up first for five minutes or so. That's what the cowboys...
  5. I hear ya! Day 6 of a restaurant glutening and just when I thought I was getting ahead! I successfully managed a very long summer vacation away from home in a house of gluten eaters and many restaurant visits without getting glutened. Then I got glutened this week at the very first restaurant my doc recommended to me when he called to tell me, "STOP EATING...
  6. I'm a little different because although I was only diagnosed in March, my husband has been gluten-free for years and I'm the cook in the family. We did have plenty of gluten in our kitchen and I was careful not to cross contaminate anything. However, we don't know if my husband has celiac disease or an intolerance (I think it's an intolerance). He went...
  7. Addy said it all! I love my cast iron pans. I even have one of my Grandfathers!
  8. What about food allergies or intolerances (for example, eliminate all milk products from your diet)? Parasites? These also mimic Celiac Disease symptoms.
  9. Going gluten free is tough on the whole family. Have you read the newbie thread? https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ This information is invaluable. Also read up on how to avoid cross contamination in your kitchen: Open Original Shared Link To prevent contamination in my house, I tossed many things (plastic, wooden...
  10. Be sure to keep on eating gluten every day until your endoscopy!
  11. It has been a much easier transition for me since my husband's gluten-free too. I learned to bake cookies, cobblers and cakes and prepare gluten-free meals beginning twelve years ago. Eating at home has always been "safe" for the both of us. It is very cool that he is gluten free. The best thing is that he completely knows how I feel (when I...
  12. You've been a forum member for sometime now. Were you diagnosed? Have you been following a gluten-free diet? Do you have any food allergies/intolerances?
  13. There are sausages that don't contain gluten and are fresh/no preservatives (not nitrates which probably not good for everyone). I buy bacon, lunch meats, and ham that do not contain preservatives or gluten. You have to eat them within a few days or freeze the balance though. As far as your weight, my over-weight -hashimoto's thyroiditis brother, is...
  14. Yes! I'm recovering from a fractured vertebrae because of osteopenia resulting from celiac disease. Please extend my "Get Well" wishes to her. I'm hoping to be back running and cycling soon!
  15. You're right. While we benefit from the gluten-free diet fad (lots of products), there are some downsides too (not taken seriously for example). All that wheat flour, spoons gliding over dough and being put back into the pizza sauce......I'm not convinced. So, when my extended family orders in pizza, we pull out our frozen Udi's pizza from the freezer...
  16. It was me that posted! I've used Yelp, but I am not aware of a dedicated Yelp site for gluten-free. I've posted just one review about a local Chinese restaurant who goes out of their way to make gluten-free dishes for our family. I did use the "Find Me Gluten Free" website to post a review just this week concerning Red Robin. I'm the person...
  17. Ugh! I had my first major glutening there this past week! I ordered the gluten-free burger. Fries were on the gluten-free menu at the location I was at but were asterisked indicating possible cross contamination issues. So beware Veghead1234! The burger was decent (no condiments)t and I know that it was gluten-free. I ordered a plain side salad...
  18. Stomach migraines! Ha! Years ago, one gastro told me that I might have "abdominal epilepsy" (oh, yeah, let's take away my drivers license.... ) Another gastro: IBS and prescribed bio-feedback sessions. Went to an allergist. It was food allergies (milk proteins) and intolerances, along with environmental allergies. Eliminated milk, eggs, garlic...
  19. Others will surely comment and will have more expertise. My blood test was "mildly" celiac (borderline). My biopsy showed moderate to severe damage (Marsh Stage 3B).
  20. I am so sorry to hear that it took so long for your son to get a diagnosis. He may not have an eating disorder, but I'm not doctor and this is just story about my family. Like me, my Dad's gallbladder start to not function. He didn't have gallstones (this is back before they invented the HIDA scan) and even though we told his doctor about the family...
  21. No blood pressures issues here, but you may have what my Dad gets "White Coat Anxiety". His blood pressure was always sky high when he went to the doctor. So, our old family doc would do the visit and then take his blood pressure. It was always dramatically lower! I go to two different docs (allergy and GP). My allergist is smart. He personally takes...
  22. It's been seven years since my gallbladder was removed and I was diagnosed with celiac disease in March 2013. I have had no issues at all since the removal. I did pass out about two months ago and that seemed like a gallbladder attack. I had eaten lots of gluten-free tenders that I had fried myself. Maybe my bile duct wasn't very happy. I started...
  23. Welcome to the forum! Please take full advantage of everyone's wisdom and advice on Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance. I have found it to be invaluable and such a comfort! I guess you could say I was asymptomatic. I went in for routine colonoscopy and the gastro reviewed my chart. He said that because I had anemia and Hashimoto's thyroiditis...
