ARCHIVED Anyone Have This Type Of Gluten-related Dry Skin Reaction
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yea, it's totally possible, but it's become a semi-regular part of my glutening symptom complex. The rest of my body says that I'm glutened - headache, mood changes, GI issues, pain etc. But it might be that I've been glutened and ALSO "xyz'd" with some as yet unidentified thing. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have This Type Of Gluten-related Dry Skin Reaction
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It's not chemical-related, although it does look and feel a lot like that. I had that happen once and it does remind me of exactly that. It's definitely gluten though. You can actually watch it happen. My skin will go from being totally fine to all weird looking within an hour. It just kind of shrivels up and gets all dry. Very weird. Nancy -
ARCHIVED On Diet For 3 Months Dramatic Physical Changes
Nantzie replied to connorsde's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The reaction can change. I get major headaches when I get glutened, which has always been the case. But recently I've started getting a skin reaction that I never had before going gluten-free. So new symptoms can show up. You also start reacting to smaller and smaller amounts of gluten, which is why protecting against cross contamination is such a big... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have This Type Of Gluten-related Dry Skin Reaction
Nantzie posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
If I get exposed to gluten I get a weird dry skin reaction. It's a mirror image reaction on both hands. There's a line that goes at a diagonal across my wrist, and then goes up to the knuckles at the base of my fingers and thumb, and the rest of my fingers are fine. The skin gets extremely dry and dehydrated looking with a crepey/lizardy look to it... -

Maybe you should call the doctors' offices and ask them to mail letters to you (so you know what they say, and so you can make some copies for yourself) to give to your school. Nancy -
Rice Dream rice milk has gluten in it. It's not in the ingredients, but there's a statement below the ingredients that says something about barley. It was enough for me to react to it. So you might want to check the ice cream or cut it out for a period of time to see if there's a difference. People here have different experiences with their weight...

I've been cooking and sharing all sorts of gluten-free goodies for family events with the hopes that some of my family may try it "to lose weight". Although my true motivation is to get them to try it for all the GI / mood symptoms that are running rampant through the family. Several of them have asked me a lot of questions about it. (I've lost 35 pounds...

ARCHIVED I Would Like Some Advice.
Nantzie replied to TBLKWL's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Celiac is so difficult to diagnose that a lot of us here (more than half according to the latest poll here) end up with a diagnosis of "gluten intolerance" rather than celiac because of negative, borderline or inconclusive test results. The truth is that testing just isn't reliable. Period. If your daughter is doing better off gluten, then that's the... -

ARCHIVED Was Angry Child Because Of Gluten
Nantzie replied to Kelgs's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know this is about kids, and I don't know if anyone else sees a pattern here, but on my dad's side of the family every single one of my family members falls into one of the categories of behavior problems that we're talking about. Grandma - anger issues, cranky, irritable, snappy. Grandpa - same but less than grandma Dad - irritable, exhausted... -

Let her know I'm glad the doctor is going to do something. I'm relieved that he didn't just smile and nod. Who knows if the doctor will have any additional answers, but at least he's taking it seriously and re-doing some tests. I'm sure she's exhausted. Tell her to get some rest and let us know any other details whenever she gets a chance. Hugs... -
ARCHIVED Was Angry Child Because Of Gluten
Nantzie replied to Kelgs's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was always irritable and would sometimes get angry at everything before I went gluten-free. I think that part of it for me was that there was a lot of low-level pain involved. It wasn't excruciating, but it was just constant and it was day after day, year after year. It's exhausting and kept me from sleeping well. I was always tired and just didn... -
I eat them occasionally; maybe once every couple of months. I haven't been glutened by them, but I know it's going to happen. Any time you eat out there's always a risk of CC. I just put it into the category of eating out, eating at someone else's house or eating something someone else makes. Unless you make it yourself, you can never be 100% sure...

ARCHIVED Poll: Official Diagnosis Or ?
Nantzie posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are a lot of newbies lately, and a lot of questions about how important it is to us on the board if they have an official M.D. diagnosis or not. I know nobody here really distinguishes too much between officially diagnosed and self-diagnosed. We all have to eat the same. I was just thinking that it would be nice to be able to tell a newbie... -
ARCHIVED What Products Have You Pitched -after Gluten Free?
Nantzie replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've given away more shampoo, conditioner and haircare products. I'm really sensitive and I've had to get rid of so much of that stuff, most of which doesn't have gluten on the label. Then the ones that I don't react to my hair doesn't like and I either end up with flat and stringy hair or dry and crispy. I finally just got fed up and started getting... -

ARCHIVED Not Diagnosed By Doctor; But On Diet Anyway...
Nantzie replied to betterbelly's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Doc Told Me Today I Do Not Have Celiacs
Nantzie replied to Kimberlee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My advice is always to try the gluten-free diet because the testing isn't always accurate. All my tests were negative. I just tried the diet to see if it would help. For me, it ended up that 90% of my health problems for the past 18 years were completely gluten-related. If I hadn't tried the diet, I never would have known. It's very common for...
