  2. These are my favorites too. I always was a little irritated that my mom's favorite, Thin Mints, came in a box with stacks of them (like Ritz crackers) and Samoas came in a widely-spaced plastic tray. The last year I ordered Girl Scout Cookies, I ordered 10 boxes of Samoas. The only reason I ordered 10 boxes is because I didn't want the girl scout...
  3. Lindsey, I just saw that you added some new information to your original posts. If I were you, I would keep him gluten-free (since you already started). The next time you go to the doctor just let him know that you've put your son on a gluten-free diet to see if his growth improves. The doctor will probably just make a note of it and will probably...
  4. I would really LOVE to find someone who doesn't have any symptoms, and doesn't have any family members who are possibly celiac or gluten intolerant, and have them tested by Enterolab. Personally, I can't think of one single person who doesn't have tummy issues of some degree in my group of friends/family. Even the few who don't I know have family members...
  5. Many, many, many, many people here were "diagnosed" by Enterolab. The mainstream testing (blood, biopsy) isn't very reliable. My kids were both diagnosed by Enterolab. Their GI doctor took the tests seriously and recommended against the biopsy based on the Enterolab tests and their positive dietary response. She said that even a positive biopsy...
  6. I'm so sorry you and your baby are going through all of this. I'm sorry I don't have any advice, other than checking for hidden gluten and making sure things like soap, shampoo, lotions, are gluten-free. (Have you checked your cosmetics too?). I hope you get some answers at your appt. Nancy
  7. First of all, I'd cut out the Taco Bell for now. I know the allergen list says that it's gluten-free, but almost everything else has gluten in it, so he might be getting CC'd. In any fast-food (or any other ) restaurant there is always a chance of CC. Cut it out for now, then try it again in a few weeks. Steve's right. It definitely could be something...
  8. I've been gluten-free since Jan 2006, and just in the last month or so I've been having problems again (probably another intolerance). I would give him the benefit of the doubt. It can take a couple of years to be completely healed. Even then you're always at risk of getting glutened, which can take a couple weeks or more to recover from. It's so...
  9. I put little tiny flower stickers on the bottom corners of some of my cabinets on the sides where they actually open -- rather than the sides that don't open, which I'm always trying first. My husband and I are total opposites when it comes to directions. We both grew up in the same suburb, about 1 mile apart. We've known each other since we were...
  10. Well, the date I joined this forum was Sept 2, 2005. On Sept 1st, I had never even heard of it. In fact if someone had told me on the 1st that they couldn't have gluten, I probably would have thought they meant glucose. I don't think I had ever even heard the word in my life. Nancy
  11. Yea, just keep in mind that for every substance on the planet there is someone who is allergic or intolerant to it. I'm allergic to most of those mineral makeups because of the bismuth oxychloride in them. Even though they say that it's fine for people with sensitive skin. I also react to wheat-based vodka even though most celiacs don't....
  12. I was just telling someone about some of the unseen hazards of cross-contamination and shared this little cautionery tale -- Back before my kids were gluten-free, and we had a gluten-y household, I did pretty good not getting glutened. One day I had just given my kids a handful of goldfish crackers and didn't wash my hands. I was quite comfortable...
  13. I was at the drugstore the other day. One of the things I bought was Easy Cheese, most of which is gluten-free. The checker there is an older woman; a sweet lady who is probably in her mid 70's. She noticed that I was buying Easy Cheese and told me that it was one of her favorites too. She said that she put it on Wheat Thins. I mentioned ...
  14. Wow!!! I never would have thought to ask them. Nancy
  15. Definitely ask your doctor to send a letter to (or maybe even call) the school. Nancy
  16. Yay!!! What a relief huh? Nancy
  17. Prayers going up for you. Carla's right. The test is not as bad as they make it out to be. Nancy
  18. I've been gluten-free for over a year now. I've been reading your threads and am really identifying with a lot of the stuff you're going through. The psychological effect of gluten in people who are susceptible to that type of effect is horrifying isn't it? My dad suffered with depression/anxiety/ADD/despair for years upon years upon decades. It...
  19. I use Zicam Gel Swabs. You put it on the inside of your nose. It sounds gross, but it totally works. They say that the cold virus first gets into your body through the nose. There have even been a couple of times when I had a scratchy throat, or getting a cough and used the nasal swabs, thinking it probably wouldn't work, and it worked. Nancy
  20. I always suggest that people go to the doctor and get tested mostly because you want to make sure it's not something else more scary. But if that's out of the question anyway, I don't see any reason you shouldn't try the diet. There isn't a prescription the doctor could give you if you got an official diagnosis. There are a lot of people here who...
  21. I used to get that too. Since being gluten-free I haven't really had that problem except for sometimes when I'm glutened. For me it's part of the psych symptoms I get. The last couple months I was eating gluten (while I was waiting for my biopsy), I also had tongue swelling, and my teeth would scrape the edges of my tongue when I talked. Gluten...
  22. I noticed that at one point too. I emailed them asking if the diet was easily adaptable to being gluten-free. The response I got was that it wasn't a gluten-free diet and that it wasn't designed to be gluten-free. I would think that once you get to the point where you're comfortable with the gluten-free diet, and adapting things, you could pretty...
  23. Also keep in mind that the damage to the intestine tends to be patchy. It's also microscopic, so there is no way for a doctor to see that an area looks like it might have damage. I've heard the biopsy being described as splattering paint on a big wall, blindfolding yourself, and then trying to touch a painted spot with a toothpick. It's kind of a shot...
  24. I'm so sorry you had such an awful day. Your parents sound like they were great. It's always nice to have someone with you when you have to go through these things. When are your scopes again? It's still a couple months away isn't it? Hugs, Nancy
  25. I would say that being hungry like that is a symptom of celiac - just one of the less noticeable ones. I was always hungry before I found out that gluten was causing most of my health problems. For me it went away pretty quickly. Looking back, and being able to compare how I feel on and off gluten and being glutened, I can see that the feelings that I...
