  1. Wow! Smart doctor! That's great to have that support. Since you had been gluten-limited and then gluten free for so long, the testing almost definitely would have come back negative. I think there is one big reason to go for a diagnosis or at least evaluation by your MD -- To make sure there are no other health problems either instead of or...
  2. In the first week the things that changed for me were: - Abdominal bloating. - Bloating in my face. I had developed kind of a doughy look to my face, which made me feel awful about myself. It went away within just a couple days. - Gas. - The really urgent diarrhea where I had to RUN to the bathroom 10 feet away. I still had soft stools for a...
  3. No answers for you. Just a big bowl of virtual gluten-free chicken soup and a hug. Hope you feel better soon. Very, very soon. It sounds like you've been through the ringer. Nancy
  4. I like Pamela's Wheat Free Bread mix, which is one of the top three or so preferred breads here, it seems. I get a package of six for $20, plus I'm an Amazon Prime member, so I get free two-day shipping. So it's $3.34 per loaf. The four of us (me, my two gluten-free kids, and my gluten-free-at-home husband) go through two loaves of it a week. My kids...
  5. That's awesome!! If nothing else, a year from now, you will be able to say with absolute authority if gluten causes an issue for you or not. You'll either have your answer or be able to go on to the next thing. Nancy
  6. I'm not too worried about her having a tantrum and flipping the table over, so to speak. I'm a pretty tough chick and I can stand my ground pretty well. My dad was a marine, so tough runs in my veins. I'm basically going to go with the simple approach. - Ask her if there is anything I may have done or said that upset her. Who knows? Maybe...
  7. I hope this appointment gets some new information, or new ideas, or new anything for you. I can't believe your parents aren't even driving you. Oh wait..., yes I can. Well, karma has a way of finding everyone, sadly enough. I agree with making lists. It can help you organize your thoughts too. If you feel weird about it, just tell the doctor...
  8. Yes! I have those and they're great. I make sure I take some gluten-free bread and the toaster bags with me when I'm going out of town, whether to a hotel or to a friend's or relative's house. I always feel a little better to know I can at least have some toast or a sandwich that if nothing else. That's cool to know they didn't melt in the oven....
  9. In the spirit of getting out of the food rut, I made a skillet dish that turned out really good. I found about a dozen different versions of it on allrecipes.com, so I figured it would have to be good. And I had all the ingredients without having to go to the store. It turned out really good. My husband and I both had seconds. My kids didn't...
  10. Dasani is another one that I've seen mentioned here as causing problems for some people, mainly people with chemical sensitivities if I remember right. If you look at the ingredients list where you'd expect to just see "water" there are several "ingredients" listed in the water. I've never liked Dasani because I always thought it had an odd taste. Go figure...
  11. Here's the email I got back. It looks like Lipton has gotten on the bandwagon with Kraft and some of the other big companies and will clearly declare if there is any gluten or other allergens in their product. Like they say, they won't use the term "natural flavors", or a chemical name if it's an allergen or gluten source. Just read the label every time...
  12. Thanks so much everybody for all the support, advice and recipes. It means so much to me. Hugs back to everyone. I think I got burnt out on cooking trying to get ready for Christmas. Lots of baking. It was all worth it because everyone loved the food, even all the gluten-free stuff. So it was a total success, but a lot of work. I actually threw out...
  13. I just sent an email to them to see if we can get a verification. I would be SOOOO happy if they confirm it's okay. I'll let you guys know what they say. Nancy
  14. The problem with gluten and makeup, shampoo, lotions, etc. is that it can get into your mouth inadvertantly, causing a gluten reaction. I never realized what a girl I was until I tried using shampoo with wheat in it just because I liked it. I couldn't believe how much I was putting my hands in my hair. Then I'd have to go wash my hands. You...
  15. Hmm.. I heard that it wasn't gluten-free. You might want to contact Lipton to verify. Nancy
  16. I don't even know where to start. Right now I'm just irritated that no matter what I cook, my kids don't like it. I don't like it either, to be honest. We've kind of gotten into a rut with the food the last few weeks. I'm usually an eat what I made or wait til the next meal type of mom, but right now I can't stand to listen to the whining. So I've been...

    ARCHIVED Gratitude!

I'm on another message board with a lot of "foodies" where the discussion was what your most hated food was. Over half said brussels sprouts. Brussels sprouts are one of my favorites. It just goes to show you that for every food that someone hates, another person is going back for seconds. I've heard that the thing with fruitcake is that when...
  18. All my test results were negative. After I went gluten-free, 18 years of IBS-type symptoms, a lifetime of psychological symptoms (anxiety, insomnia, nightmares, irritability) and 3 years of mobility issues that were so painful that I could barely walk and couldn't really take adequate care of my kids, went away. If it weren't for me taking it upon...

Talk about an up side...! Nancy
  20. Hugs to you Lisa and Merry Christmas to everyone here. This board has been my lifeline too. It's such an amazing place with so many wonderful people. Nancy
  21. Thanks Tiffany. Equal thanks to you, to all those you listed and to everyone here. Everyone makes this such a warm, welcoming place. Nancy
  22. We like Ener-G Wheat Free Crackers. As bad as their bread is, these crackers are awesome. I buy them by the case because my kids and I eat them all the time. Nancy
  23. Hi Cathy! I'm in Antelope (on the other side of Baseline) and do 98% of my shopping and errand running in Roseville. My two kids (4yo and 2yo) and I are gluten-free. It's great to see someone else in the area. I shop a lot at Sunrise Natural Foods and I make a trip out to Whole Foods about once a month to pick up gluten-free pizza...
  24. That's so exciting! It amazing when you see the changes happening right before your eyes isn't it? It sounds like the doctor is a keeper too! Nancy
  25. I remember it taking close to 3 weeks, but not quite. Like 2.5 weeks. Nancy
