ARCHIVED Bad Health Day Yesterday/today
Nantzie replied to num1habsfan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Oh Lisa.. You poor thing. It sounds like a bladder infection. Have they checked your kidneys. If I remember right you had an infection a few months ago. Definitely go to the doctor. Nancy -
Yep. It's one of the most important things we have to do to keep ourselves from getting sick. It's easy to not eat the bread or whatever. It's the cross contamination that gets us every time. The reaction that triggers us to get sick is on a molecular level. I know it sounds bizarre, but it's true. And sick means sick for days and sometimes weeks...

ARCHIVED Bread Recipe That Resembles Wheat Bread
Nantzie replied to Kibbie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm the same way. Can't stand wonder bread. Never could. I was always a wheat bread kid. Try Pamela's Wheat Free Bread Mix. Totally tastes and smells like wheat bread. It's unbelieveable. My kids and I are gluten-free. We go through at least two loaves of this a week. Even my husband eats it. Nancy -
ARCHIVED What Have You Found You Can Eat? ( Pree Teen )
Nantzie replied to zachsmom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Cool Ranch Doritos - nacho isn't gluten-free, but some of the others are I believe Lays Stax Mission Tortilla Chips and Salsa Easy Cheese (the spray stuff in the can - bacon isn't gluten-free, but the rest are) Peanut Butter Candy can be an odd one - Full size of the following candy bars are gluten-free, but the mini and holiday shape ones tend... -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Recommend A Pediatrician?
Nantzie replied to mom2jpb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yinka Davies, MD is a pediatric gastroenterologist. She's very nice, friendly, helpful and encouraging. I took my daughter to her after being gluten-free based on Enterolab tests. She fully supported our doing that and didn't push for a biopsy. All she asked us to do is do a blood panel once a year, and keep doing the gluten-free diet. She has offices... -
Yep. It's serious. I saw your post buried down here on the third page. We've honestly been getting so many new people here lately that it's hard for us "Oldies" to keep up. Hope you're hanging in there okay and reading the archives. That's what I did when I first found out about my gluten intolerance. There's nothing that we haven't discussed...

ARCHIVED Whole Family Has Celiac?
Nantzie replied to grace-inspired's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's totally possible. My two kids and I are gluten intolerant, and my husband and half of his family all have symptoms, but nobody wants to go gluten-free. This board is the best resource around. I learned everything I know here. I read the archives, asked questions, etc. My favorite gluten-free thing in the whole world is Pamela's Amazing Wheat... -

ARCHIVED I Was Thinking What If We Had A Manners Book
Nantzie replied to i canary's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That sounds like a great idea. Tips on how to get through the gluten-free lifestyle politely, but firmly. One of the things I do is ooh and ahh over the homemade gluten stuff that family members make and bring to BBQ's and stuff. They know I can't eat it, but knowing that I appreciate their hard work makes for a much easier and more relaxed time. ... -

ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone With
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This has been a great thread. I'm not surprised at all that everyone here is so supportive. This is an amazing place. I'm trying to remember all the things people said/asked so I can respond. Someone asked if it was part of a national group or a local one. It was a national one, but I'm not going to mention the name. I'm going to give that group... -
ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
Nantzie replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yoo Hoo! Me!!!! I have double DQ1, had neuro issues to the point where I could barely walk most days. I had to use the grocery cart as a walker and it would take me a couple hours just to get a small list of things. If it weren't for me finding out about gluten intolerances, on that next doctor appt I would have been asking about how to get a handicapped... -

ARCHIVED I Just Made A Rock
Nantzie replied to Hayleesdad's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You can toast the breadcrumbs too. I found this technique lately and it's been working GREAT. Put some butter in a pan with your breadcrumbs. Add some seasonings and salt and pepper. Toast over low heat, stirring often, until golden brown and delicious. As far as bread, my favorite is Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread Mix. We go through at least... -

ARCHIVED Questions?!
Nantzie replied to lax87's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have heard several times of there being a possible link to some types of schizophrenia and gluten. My grandmother had schizophrenia. The interesting thing here is that she also "thought" she was allergic to all kinds of food. I remember my mom telling me about these gross cookies that her mom used to eat called "digestives". Imagine my surprise finding... -
ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone With
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love the "buffet moaner" phrase! "I really shouldn't eat this" (puts two helpings of pasta on her plate). I was off running errands and thought of one for the gluten intolerant (walks like a celiac, quacks like a celiac) type. >>>> Gluten Toxicity Syndrome <<<< Sounds scary huh? That might make friends,... -
ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone With
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
See, that's the thing. That's not at all what we're talking about on this board when someone says they're gluten intolerant. When we say gluten intolerant here, we mean hardcore celiac symptoms, glutened just with cross contamination, hurting for days if we get glutened, couldn't pay us enough to even try it again. It's basically celiac without... -

ARCHIVED Tyler's Doctor Is Frutstrating Me...
Nantzie replied to Shalia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As a mom, I would consider an accidental glutening a challenge and just call it a "challenge" when you talk to the doctor. "We did the challenge last week, Doctor" would really mean one of the kids at school touched his lunch on pizza day and he was home for the rest of the week. My daughter was saved from a glutening just last week because... -
ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone With
Nantzie posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I refer to myself as celiac when I'm talking to people outside the "celiac world". I also refer to myself as celiac on this board unless we're actually discussing celiac vs. non-celiac gluten intolerance. For one thing, it's easier to type. Personally, I think that this board is living proof that there are at least a few variations of celiac, if... -
ARCHIVED Birthday Present From The Coworkers
Nantzie replied to tarnalberry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Happy Birthday Tiffany!!!! Nancy -
I worry about this too. I'm "only" gluten intolerant. The "only" included D so bad I was scared to go anywhere because it was happening all the time, horrible gas, headaches, irritable, and pain so bad that I was actually planning on asking for a handicapped placard for my car, but I found out about celiac instead. I have many people on both sides...
