  1. Road trip to mamaw's! I'll go gas up the van. Nancy
  2. There's also another thread about cupcakes where someone mentioned this recipe, which has fabulous reviews. Open Original Shared Link Nancy
  3. Did somebody say twinkies? <Bookmarking that recipe as we speak.> Nancy
  4. Absolutely 100% YES. It's not the pain or the GI symptoms that keep me on the diet. It's that I don't want to go through feeling like that psychologically. If it wasn't for feeling "irritated, sad, angry, anxious" (which is an excellent description of how I feel when glutened even by cross contamination, btw), I probably wouldn't be as careful as I...
  5. How exciting!!! I'm going to my bookshelf to mark the page right now! Mmmm.... cake.... Nancy
  6. Yes! It can definitely happen that quickly, although it can be anywhere from days to weeks, to months for some people. It just depends. For me it was like somebody flipped a switch. Literally within a day or two. It sounds so odd and unreal to look back on all those years of suffering when the answer was so close. I'm so glad you and your...
  7. I have heard before that iron can be hard on your stomach. I would think that that would be even more common while your stomach is healing from celiac. If your doctor prescribed the iron, maybe he would be willing for you to go off of them for a period of time to see if it helps. If it's something you just happen to be taking, then you might want to consider...
  8. I emailed and received the response email back. Nancy
  9. Wow!!! The only thing I didn't like was Dr. Green saying it was the gluten-free diet was difficult. I don't think it is at all, as long as you eat at home. I guess it might be different for someone like the anchorwoman, who I"m sure was used to eating out quite a lot. Maybe we can get her to do a segment in the future on all the yummy gluten-free...
  10. This is SOOO cool!!
  11. That's true. Even a friend of mine, who moved away three years ago, told me that her sister did a stool test for celiac at her M.D.'s office and that it would be a few weeks before the tests came back. As far as I know, Enterolab is the only lab that even does a stool test. Celiac runs in her family too. Nancy
  12. Keep us posted Ashley. I hope you ultimately get accepted. My dad was a Marine. I would consider it an honor if either of my children (one girl, one boy) were to want to serve their country in the military. Stateside or overseas. As common as celiac and gluten intolerance is, I believe that it will be something that is worked with by the military...
  13. I also had completely negative test results. If it wasn't for me finding this forum and doing the diet no matter the test results, I would have still been trapped in my house because of "bathroom problems". I also would have had a handicapped placard for my car and probably a Lark scooter of some sort by now. Gluten is a horrible thing for those of...
  14. If you had already been gluten-free, it's almost a guarantee that your tests would come back negative. In order to get positive tests, even if you have celiac, you had to have been eating the equivalent of four slices of wheat bread a day for four months. Even then, the damage is patchy AND microscopic, so there would still be a good chance of them missing...
  15. A positive blood test would mean that you actually have Celiac Disease. Which means your body's immune system thinks that gluten is a poison. You have to completely and strictly avoid gluten 100%. Celiac isn't like diabetes where you can have a little bit every once in a while. You have to be 100%. Cold turkey is the goal, although gluten can...
  16. I know. This just hits a nerve for me I guess. I'm sorry I jumped on you. Nancy
  17. Well, how exactly did you find out you should avoid gluten? Blood test? Biopsy? Did you just take it out of your diet on your own and then found you felt better? If you saw a doctor, did you see an M.D.? an allergist? a GI doctor? a naturopath or other alternative med doctor? There are a lot of ways that you can come to find out you have some...
  18. I was thinking something like a capsule like they use for herbs and supplements. It would be great for other things like disaster relief, military, space missions, etc. Swallow it with a glass of water. Heck, if it's hypoallergenic, you could take it while you've got morning sickness when you're pregnant. Then you wouldn't be worried about getting enough...
  19. I TOTALLY get what you're saying. I think it's a great idea. Didn't they do that on the Jetson's? I never had the dislike of eating before I went gluten-free. I was always hungry then. But after I went gluten-free, I started hating to eat. The whole process was just gross, from the smell while you were cooking, to the chewing and swallowing, to...
  20. Also keep in mind that Pamprin, Midol, etc, all (I'm pretty sure it's all..) have gluten in them. So if you're taking anything like that, you're getting glutened. Nancy
  21. Sometimes when you cut out gluten you end up eating more of something else too, so you may want to just keep an eye out for something like that. Definitely cut out dairy, it's very common for that to go along with gluten problems. I also found that for the first month or two of being gluten-free, all of a sudden soy caused problems for me, which...
  22. I got SOOOOOO sick from the Gas-X chewables a few times (before I found out about gluten). Nancy
  23. She had already been completely gluten-free for over a month when we saw the doctor (ped GI). The doctor called and told me that the most sensitive blood test (I'm guessing TTG) was negative. But the other one, that is usually indicative of a false positive where the person will have problems corrected by going gluten-free but still have a negative...
  24. Personally, I'd avoid anything derived from wheat because I'm super-sensitive. But, I've never seen that on a label in the US. What product was it that had that? Maybe you could contact the company for more of an explanation. I'd be curious to know more too. Nancy
  25. My kids are much younger than your daughter, but really my 2yo son's only symptom before we had him tested (because of me and my 4yo having gluten sensitivity) was his introverted personality. Being shy myself, I didn't think much of it. But after he had positive tests and we put him gluten-free, his personality completely changed. He's now a goofy, rambunctious...
