ARCHIVED Breathing Test To Tell If Celiac?
Nantzie replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You're welcome Janely! I seriously doubt that the ped GI has heard of this. It sounds like something that is still in the research stages and wouldn't be common knowledge. I would ask the mom at the group more about her ped GI. See if you can get his name. Maybe you can get a referral to him. Or maybe your ped GI can talk to him and get more info... -

ARCHIVED Breathing Test To Tell If Celiac?
Nantzie replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've never heard of that. That sounds cool. I'm wondering if it's an alternative medicine technique. Or maybe a private lab developing a new diagnostic test. If you can find out more about it, I'd love to hear more. I did a search online and found this. It's a test for lactose intolerance, but it sounds like what you're talking about. ... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Cure.... A Possible Pill To Cure Celiac

I've heard of the supplement-type products that you're referring to. I've thought about trying it for just exactly that - CC at restaurants. Just a few questions if you don't mind - - Have you also taken it after an accidental glutening? Does it help? - I'm not sure if you get neuro, pain or mood symptoms from gluten. If you do, does it help... -
ARCHIVED Quinoa....yuck
Nantzie replied to singingserena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If I remember right you might get a stomach ache or feel queasy from it. I have no idea why they would sell something that has to be rinsed without saying that in BIG red letters. Hope it doesn't make you feel sick. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Quinoa....yuck
Nantzie replied to singingserena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never tried quinoa, but I do remember reading that you have to rinse it really well, or there's a nasty soapy flavor to it. Maybe someone with some more experience with it will let us know what the deal is. Nancy -
I love Pei Wei! I always get the chicken salad wraps. Yum! Nancy

ARCHIVED Please Help!
Nantzie replied to festeris's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had something like that happen. I had to have my appendix out several years ago. Afterward you can't eat for a couple of days, so you just have an IV. I felt FANTASTIC. I remember thinking, Wow, it would be really cool to just have an IV and not have to eat. I had lots of energy too. At first I thought that my appendix had been making me feel... -

Hi! Welcome to the forum. It sounds like your daughter has some very strong classic symptoms, especially the sagging skin on her buttocks and the light stools. You need to keep feeding her gluten until the testing is done. The blood testing actually detects the antibodies that the body releases to attack the gluten. If she's not eating gluten... -
ARCHIVED Whats Wrong With Me? Pls Help!
Nantzie replied to imagine22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sounds like gluten may be getting in. Also, are you also dairy-free? Most people have a problem with dairy for the first several months. It turns out it's the very tips of the villi that are destroyed that make the enzymes that digest dairy. Once the villi grow back, most people can have dairy again. As far as checking for hidden gluten or... -
ARCHIVED How Can I Help Her?
Nantzie replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't feel guilty at all about the toast, pasta, etc. that you gave her before you knew what was wrong. I think that everyone here did the same thing either for themselves or their loved ones. I used to give my kids handfuls of goldfish crackers and all that other stuff that I now know was just making things worse. After I went gluten-free I went... -
ARCHIVED Grocery Shopping
Nantzie replied to smilie-girl99's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is a survey for class if you could please take 1 minute to answer thank you Do you (or someone you know) have celiac or have eating restrictions on food? - Yes. Myself and my two young children (ages 3 and 4) eat gluten-free. Do you (or they) find it hard to go grocery shopping? - Yes, although it is getting easier. I get most of... -

I agree with everything Ursa says. You're doing great. It's so difficult to see someone you love suffer and not be able to do anything to make it go away. Unfortunately, there isn't much that you or she can do except ride it out as best as you can. As you learn about living the gluten-free life, she'll start feeling better. You've found the... -
ARCHIVED Medical Misstatements
Nantzie replied to Mtndog's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I used to be a medical transcriptionist. These used to go around in our MT message boards. We all had one or two we were responsible for. Sometimes from reading an old record, sometimes from overwork and spacing out on what the doctor actually said on the tape, but then catching it in edit. Sometimes things slip through the cracks though. ... -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookies - Samoas
Nantzie replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oo! Oo! Oo! I found something that would work for this SOOOO well. At our local natural food store they carry a line of cookies called Sunstart. It says Wheat Free, but under that it says "Cookies made from ingredients naturally free from gluten and wheat" (emphasis their's). I just notice that part the other day. I was feeling adventurous... -
ARCHIVED Bacon/fake Nails/hair Color-glutened?
Nantzie replied to PeaceAngel22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are lots of hair products that have gluten in them. I've even been glutened by hair products that don't list any gluten. They just don't have the same rules against cross contamination that food products do. If you're micro-sensitive like me, it can be the hair products. Your salon should be able to get some ingredients lists and contact information... -
I'm glad there are other people with the slurred speech thing. I thought I remembered that coming up at some point, but couldn't remember. It's just kind of disconcerting. By the time my slurred speech symptom started back before I went gluten-free, I had done enough trial and error on the gluten-free diet to know that it was gluten-related. I...

I just have a second to post. We're selling our house and some people are coming over to look at it. So I've got to leave for a few hours. Just didn't want anyone to get worried if you don't hear from me. I'm feeling better, thank goodness. Slurring mostly gone. Back spasms much less. I'll post again later. Nancy

Thanks for being concerned about me. My husband is here. Another cause is definitely something to keep in mind. I'll go to the doctor if it doesn't go away in the next day or so. My brain-foggy issues are already improving. I'm just up in the middle of the night because my son woke up from teething. No fever, dizziness or any other signs...

I don't know where it came from, but right now I've got somewhat slurred speech (my tongue isn't cooperating), difficulting finding the right words, spacey head, maybe a headache coming on, and I'm itchy. I'm also having the spasms in my back that feel like sharp spikes. The spasms are so bad that when it hits me it makes me jump and gasp. They only last...

Yea, I had insomnia for years. Mine ended up being due to the gluten. My insomnia went away along with everything else when I went gluten-free. I used to turn on the TV to something like the history channel, and just doze off to it. Even if I didn't fall asleep any faster, it helped to not stress out about it. If I just laid there, I would obsess...

I've been following that too. It's going to be interesting how this pans out. I think they're actually in Phase 2 trials, with Phase 3 being the last "phase", followed by registration by the FDA.
