ARCHIVED Fussy Eater Question Again
Nantzie replied to elaine33's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I used to think the same thing about people with picky eaters. Not that they were doing anything wrong so much as they weren't trying hard enough and just not bothering with it. Then I had Jenny. Oh my goodness. She had a slightly bigger variety of food that she ate than some people I knew, but wouldn't eat any veggies at all. I ended up having... -
ARCHIVED Yeccchhhhh !
Nantzie replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I make breadcrumbs out of icky bread. I bought a loaf of Ener-G Tapioca bread just because I wanted to try it, which actually isn't that bad. But it ended up not being eaten. I found a trick for the breadcrumbs, which I posted on a new thread. Open Original Shared Link Nancy -
I found a variation of this on foodnetwork.com. Grind up the bread in a food processor until you've got breadcrumbs. Melt some butter in a pan on the stovetop over medium heat. Add any seasonings you'd like. I just added garlic oil, salt and pepper. Put the breadcrumbs in and stir until toasted. If you also toast the bread beforehand, it takes...

My ex-bf and I had a part pitbull. She was the sweetest little thing. She stayed with my ex so I can't vouch for her later years though. Her mom was the dog of a friend of our's who was a common terrier of some sort. Her dad was one of their neighbor dogs who was a pit cross who was a total sweetie. Our dog never got bigger than 35 or 40 pounds. ...

For my whole life, before going strictly gluten-free, I had exactly the same type of insomnia as you're describing. I call my experience with it brain-buzzing insomnia. Because it feels almost like an internal vibration. If you haven't already, you might want to go completely strictly gluten-free; no cross contamination, no cosmetics, haircare, lotions...

ARCHIVED Great Restaurant Experience For A Newbie
Nantzie replied to georgie's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Definitely!! There are plenty of Aussie's here. And most Americans have Australia on their list of places to visit some time in their lives. We've got very specific restaurant recommendations for New York and Las Vegas, so why not Australia? And with such a kind and interested experience, they deserve an advert on this board! Nancy -

Rinne - I know what you mean. Now it's a big DOH! for me. If your food isn't agreeing with you, it must be something you ate. Seems so simple, but my gosh I never connected it. I think that part of it is that people don't feel right about complaining to their doctor about something that there is a whole aisle full of stuff at the drugstore for. Between... -
Hi Mal! Restaurant cards are used to give to the server or restaurant manager to give to the chef or kitchen staff in a restaurant to explain what we need as far as preparation of our food. It's really common that the first time a server has ever heard of celiac or gluten is when you're trying to order a meal. It's much easier for the server and the...

ARCHIVED Great Restaurant Experience For A Newbie
Nantzie replied to georgie's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
That sounds amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing this. Duck AND pistachio ice cream? I might have to come visit. If you can post the name of the restaurant, that would be great. There are a lot of lurkers and travelers here, so you never know who might benefit from a recommendation. Nancy -
ARCHIVED What Were Your Child's Symptoms?
Nantzie replied to elaine33's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was always tall and totally off the growth chart. Being tall runs in my family. My mom was 6'. My aunt and cousins are close to that. I think my aunt is closer to 6'1" because I remember her being even taller than my mom. I'm only 5'8. Jenny, my 4yo, was always tall and continuing on that path up until about a year ago. Her growth dropped... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oats?
Nantzie replied to brandonsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've had a shipment from glutenfreeoats.com in a box in my kitchen cabinet for over a month now and I still haven't gotten up the nerve to try them. I've been so busy lately that I haven't had the time to schedule a possible 3-5 day reaction. Cowboy cookies (choc chip with oats added) have been sounding pretty good lately though so I might have to give... -
ARCHIVED Slim-fast Easy-to-digest Line
Nantzie replied to Nantzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That sucks Franceen. It always happens at the worst time too. I agree on the CC issues. If you overthink it, all it takes is one person not washing their hands after lunch while working in a factory and that batch is contaminated. I know before being gluten-free, I never would have thought about washing my hands because I had just eaten a sandwich. ... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Returning Or Worsening With Periods?
Nantzie replied to Robina's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Also remember that Pamprin, Midol and all the other mainstream PMS meds have gluten in them. At least the last time I checked. So if you're taking anything for it, you'll want to check and make sure they're gluten free. Nancy -
ARCHIVED Hairloss After Being Glutened?
Nantzie replied to Jean05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also get hair loss. Before I went gluten-free, it wasn't clumps, but was quite a lot. To the point where I showed a friend of mine how much was coming out when I just ran my hands through my hair and it startled her. Now, I get increased hair loss for a couple days after being glutened and then it goes back to normal. Nancy -
Don't know about the restaurants. Other than PF Changs and Outback, who both have gluten-free menus. Here's some mainstream snacks though Cool Ranch Doritos. Cheetos Lays Stax Fritos Reese's PB Cups M&M's (all but the crispy kind I believe) Butterfinger's None of the crispy rice chocolate bars are gluten-free in the US...

Welcome to the board! It will get easier for you as things go on. Your lack of appetite for certain foods may actually be related to celiac, so don't be surprised if things change as your body heals. Before I found out I had a gluten problem I was always hungry and mostly ate gluten-based things. After going gluten-free, I lost my appetite completely...

ARCHIVED Do I Belong Here?
Nantzie replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If it helps, I had a HUGE appetite and ate almost nothing but gluten-containing things. I was either eating or actively using every ounce of willpower I had not to eat. I was always hungry and always craving cookies, bread, pasta, etc. After going gluten-free, it didn't take long before I really didn't care one way or the other about any of it. Now... -
ARCHIVED Desperate For Info About Gluten And Light Intolerance
Nantzie replied to Anise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also noticed light intolerance. It was one of the many thing that I didn't realize was happening until they went away after going gluten-free. I would squint really hard even just sitting in my house during the day. I'm not sure if the light sensitivity was causing the headaches I was having, or if the headaches were causing the light sensitivity. ... -
ARCHIVED Whoa Got The Appointment I Wanted!
Nantzie replied to num1habsfan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm glad the doctor seems concerned for you and is getting you in for testing as soon as he can. And I agree with Mtndog. Some people can be so narrow in their view of life and what truly matters. I'm totally in awe of your dedication to school with all the pain you've been in this year. If they can't see that, then well... what Mtndog said... Nancy -
ARCHIVED Do I Belong Here?
Nantzie replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you should pursue celiac testing. Especially since gluten intolerance has appeared in your family. The bowel issues as well as the tiredness, possibly the skin stuff sound like something that should at least be looked at. Even if the testing comes back negative, you should try the gluten-free diet just to see what happens. It's not as hard as it... -

ARCHIVED Celiac?
Nantzie replied to JASON's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree. She should go gluten-free. I had negative blood and biopsy and my GI symptoms and neuro issues (I had a hard time walking), and other various symptoms went away after going gluten-free. If celiac runs in the family, she should give the diet a real try because sometimes odd things are related to gluten, and everyone has different symptoms. I...
