  1. I really hope that somebody comes up with something someday. Just to be able to take the bun off the burger or not eat the bread on the plate or pick the croutons out of the salad. That would be heaven. Nancy
  2. I don't have DH either, but I strictly avoid gluten in my hair and body products. I didn't think that the shampoo rinse water getting into my mouth would apply to me because I hate getting water on my face while I'm rinsing my hair and completely avoid it. But I'll be darned, tons of it does, even if you don't realize it. So if the wheat in the rinse...
  3. Hey! I used to be a medical transcriptionist too!! I had never heard of it either. And one of the places I used to type for was a general practitioner clinic connected to the local medical school. So yea, you can be in the medical admin support field and see all sorts of reports and journals and still never have heard of it. In fact, my best friend...
  4. I'm hoping that my husband and I can go on a cruise sometime in the next couple years. It sounds like a gluten-free paradise. Nancy
  5. Wow! That's awesome Lisa! I hope they'll be able to figure out what's going on. As far as your parents not wanting to drive you, all I can say is . I just don't know what to say about people who act like that...
  6. I would get a lawyer ASAP. This is ridiculous. Have you been able to contact the smaller boy's parents to see if he will talk to the school/police about what really happened?
  7. I'm coming in late to this thread, but the thought that US Smarties might be gluten-free has made my day. I used to be practically addicted to them. Anything white and powdery seems suspect to me now, so I never even thought to look at the ingredients. I figured that the addiction aspect was an allergen addiction type thing. Okay, had to do...
  8. Glutenous rice is gluten-free. Basically it's one of those name things, like you said. It's just a world used to mean that it's sticky. Rice vinegar should be fine. If the ingredients look gluten-free, I'd feel comfortable with it. Nancy
  9. Oooohhhh... I love little scientists!!! How cute!!! This is our first gluten-free Halloween too. I'm so glad everything went so well for you guys. I filled my kids buckets about a third of the way with stuff that I know is gluten-free because I didn't want them to feel left out or upset. I was very concerned that I didn't know the gluten-free...
  10. Be careful about trying to lose weight while breastfeeding. Your body is in a mode where it knows it not only has to sustain you, but your baby. So if you try and restrict calories or diet too much, your body will think there's a starvation situation going on and will hold onto every last calorie it can, and will send out hunger signals in order to remind...
  11. I went through Steamboat Springs YEARS ago. My mom and I were in CO on vacation and a friend of her's told her to stop by there because they loved it. It was kind of a resort area in the country. Not near any towns . But this was close to 15 years ago, so that may have changed... If nobody has any recent experience, I'd contact the hotel and go from...
  12. I'm pretty sensitive too. I had a problem getting glutened after my MIL stayed with my kids while we were out of town. She was using hand lotion with gluten in it and doing stuff like doing the dishes and putting them away. I was getting glutened by anything she would have touched, like the silverware (for pete's sake). I had to re-wash all the silverware...
  13. I heard about Bi-Aglut on this board somewhere, and I completely agree! It's SO good. Haven't tried the Schar though. Can't wait to hear how it compares. Nancy
  14. Ursula, that's horrible!!!! To think that we hear how much more understood celiac is in much of Europe, and to see that some countries are even worse off than us. Yikes! We go to Germany every few years to visit family there. I think I'll be shipping a box of food and supplies over there before we go rather than risk having to rely on too many things...
  15. Yep, it turned out great. We bought apples, fudge, rode ponies and had ice cream. It all worked out great and none of us got glutened. Nancy
  16. I never have had a loaf last more than three days. So a week? Wow.... And adding cocoa to make it brown and all the other yummy things. What great ideas! Even if you don't have a breadmaker, you should definitely try this. You should be able to make it just fine in a regular bread pan. The biggest mistake people make when making bread...

    ARCHIVED Question

I had a truly awful experience once with Gas-X Chewables. Not good. Not good at all. Nancy
  18. My MIL called me tonight and asked me if my husband had told me we were supposed to go to a harvest fair thing an hour away tomorrow morning. Uhh.... Nope. That was the first I had heard of it. A few months ago I would have just said we couldn't go with such short notice. I've got two gluten-free kids, plus myself to cook for. Basically we...
  19. My GI symptoms started after having mono when I was 17. I was basically never the same after that. I had "IBS" , I was absolutely exhausted, never completed even a semester of college. It was awful. And I had no answers up until finding out about gluten a year ago. We have had discussions about mono here before, which you can do a search for if you...
  20. First of all, welcome and thank you so much for taking an interest in this. Please ask any questions you have. I would also like to point out that sometimes people who are gluten intolerant just say wheat because a lot of the time servers in restaurants don't know what gluten is, or they think we mean glucose. Saying you have a wheat allergy seems...
  21. Not really a soup, but Dinty Moore Beef Stew is gluten-free.
  22. Ugh. Frustratingly similar aren't they... So now to my explanation list to non-celiacs on how it feels to be glutened I can say it feels like having food poisoning, a hangover, the flu, whole body pain from an overdone workout, and PMS all at the same time. Yep. That about covers it. Nancy
  23. How cool! I had never heard of her, so I did a websearch and found that it's even mentioned in her bio on IMDB.com Open Original Shared Link Nice to see a celeb who is open about it, rather than rumors. I hope she mentions it. Nancy
  24. Yea, but I bet we never thought that the sound of our husbands brushing their teeth would make our minds "turn to thoughts of love..." Nancy
