  1. Oh YUM!!! I've got to try this one soon.
  2. Ooo... A stowaway... So much fun! Make him a sword out of cardboard and you've got a 2-month hyper-focus onto pirates and swashbucking.
  3. Yay!!! You all must be so relieved to have her home. I hope she keeps feeling better. Nancy
  4. My kids aren't gluten-free (yet), but these are the things of mine that I can't keep them out of: Ener-G Wheat Free Crackers with EZ Cheese American Cheese (spray cheese). The American and Sharp are gluten-free, but I think the bacon has gluten. My kids will climb all over me trying to get to this. Cool Ranch Doritos Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free...
  5. I've seen this on the Food Network. The technique is that you prepare the fruit the same as in Molly's recipe, but you partially freeze it and scrape it with forks every hour. I wasn't able to find a strawberry granita, but it's more the technique. Open Original Shared Link Orange Granita 6 oranges 4 cups freshly squeezed orange juice Sugar...
  6. Unfortunately, when we talk about contaminated food, we mean extremely small amounts of gluten. Like if you touched a piece of bread and then gave him some gluten-free food. Because of the small amounts of gluten that will stick to your hands just by touching the bread, the gluten-free food is no longer gluten-free. It's contaminated. So your son...
  7. It's nice to know it's not just me. It seemed so odd that I wasn't sure I'd get any responses. Good to know it should be gone in a couple days. Nancy
  8. Considering my non-gluten-free husband and I make the most beautiful sauces with Bob's Red Mill gluten-free now, and we can't tell a difference at all, I'm positive there will eventually be some sort of gluten-free cooking school. Maybe you could start the first gluten-free cooking school, or gluten-free culinary arts weekend retreat. You could even...
  9. I got glutened a few days ago by an Amy's frozen dinner. I have heard of a bunch of cross-contamination issues lately. I got D almost immediately, along with brain fog, headaches, skin issues, etc. I also had the feeling that my tongue was too big for my mouth, which was something I was getting right before I went gluten-free. That went away after half...
  10. Yea, it was definitely them. I even had my tongue feeling too big for my mouth. Which is something that I haven't had since before going gluten-free. Scary. Because if it's that much, it's not just slight amounts of CC. It's like they stopped giving a cr@p. Or maybe I'm just getting more sensitive to small amounts. On the side of the boxes,...
  11. I ate the Black Bean and Veggie Enchiladas the other day. Got glutened BIG TIME. The worst since I went gluten-free by far. Blech. It sucks too because that just happened to be something that I had been eating for well over 10 years, which just happened to be gluten-free. Looking forward to more stuff coming out of the gluten-free facility. Until then...
  12. There is a site where you can put in any web address, in just about any major language, and it will do a quick translation of it for you. It's not perfect, but you can get a really good idea of what's being said. Open Original Shared Link If that link doesn't work, just google babelfish and it will be the first link. Nancy
  13. I do remember that about breastfeeding now that you mention it. I see that your son is 1 year Shannon. Are you still breastfeeding? My son is 2.5 and hasn't been breastfed in a long time. There doesn't seem to be a real obvious pattern of grainy stools that comes up in discussion here, so I'm leaning toward dairy maybe. But then, dairy can cause problems...
  14. (Anybody else feeling nauseous just reading this?) Nancy
  15. I got an email from Enterolab customer service saying that Phyllis (the nurse there) is on vacation, and will be returning next week. They are saving my email so that she can respond to it when she gets back. Nancy
  16. Wow! That's awesome. Celiac is quite a revelation isn't it? Welcome to the boards! Nancy

    ARCHIVED Help !

I would ask her for a detailed (written) list of food, including food preparation and cross contamination prevention requirements. Any parent of a child with celiac will have very stringent rules and information. Make sure you follow everything. Some of the things may sound like she's going overboard or being too careful, but it's all very important...
  18. I love science and scientists. Truly. We have quite a few scientists on this board. And the ones who come in shocked at so much talk about paranoid sounding things like cross contamination have the most to learn from us. It's possible, Andrew, that if you aren't being careful about cross contamination, you're having more sick feeling days than you should...

    ARCHIVED A Calling?

I've thought this too. It's just so odd that it seems like celiac and gluten intolerance is so widespread, that I'm waiting for some biblical scholar to come out with a reason why wheat is mentioned in the bible so much if so many people get so sick from it. Like maybe the original word meant grain in general or something other than wheat, or something...
  20. Well, I consulted the experts. I just sent off an email to Enterolab. If anyone would have noticed a connection between celiac and grainy stools, it would be Dr. Fine. I'll post the email when I get a response. Nancy
  21. Both my kids have had this where it's nearly impossible to get all the little tiny things off them. You pretty much have to pick each one off. (Neither of my kids are gluten-free, but we're getting them tested through Enterolab as we can afford it.) I have done searches on it too, and have found other people asking about it, but no answers. I've...

    ARCHIVED I Love My Doctor

My regular doctor's name is Patricia Chen, MD. She's at UC Davis Medical Group on Madison Avenue between San Juan and Sunrise. I'm pretty sure that she's not taking new patients right now, which is why it took me a while to write this. But she's just so great that I wanted to post about her anyway because so many people have such bad experiences with...
  23. I basically did option #3. I had the blood tests - negative. Biopsy - negative. I had already noted on days that I stayed away from gluten, I didn't have any digestive issues, insomnia, anxiety, etc. (read my sig line for more...), so had planned on going gluten-free even after the biopsy. Went gluten-free in late December, and haven't looked back...
  24. Hugs to you. That's really hard. Nancy
  25. Advil is gluten-free. Not sure if it would be better than Tylenol in your case, but I use it all the time.
