  1. I emailed Vaseline Intensive Care, and this is their response: Hi, Thank you for writing! Vaseline Intensive Care lotions do not contain gluten. We hope this helps! Vaseline Consumer Services ________________________________ Sent: Monday, October 17, 2005 12:18 PM To: CA-LP-Tor, Spcl-ConsumerCentre Subject: Home and Personal...
  2. I went to a Celiac Support group meeting last month and they had samples of Elev8me! bars. They are really good. I haven't found them in any of the stores that I go to and they are a bit expensive on line. Has anyone seen them?
  3. Orgran corn or rice crispbreads would make a great cracker for putting tuna salad or cheese on!
  4. Carrie - I emailed Olay today, and this is what they had to say in their response: Subject --------------------------------------------------------------- Question: Is Olay Compete gluten free? What Olay products are gluten free.... Discussion Thread --------------------------------------------------------------- We know Celiac is a serious disease...
  5. Rachel - I don't know about everywhere, but it is in Venice. Other than that, it is a wonderful place to visit. If you go into a bar or restaurant to use the bathroom, you actually have real toilets. The hotel that we stayed in had a bidet. My son wanted to know why the toilet had a sink in it. Cindy
  6. I am definitely going through a grieving process. I passed up on going to a Christmas party last night because of the food that was going to be there. People at work bring in homemade baked goods and put them out in a central location. (Goodies are brought in at different times during the year, but right now I am extremely vulnerable). I have actually...
  7. Lauren - Somewhere in here (I don't remember where) somebody posted a recipe for poptarts. Maybe you can find it. Cindy
  8. Does anyone have any suggestions for easy meal cookbooks that contain mainstream ingredients? I am getting very tired of gluten-free pasta and sauce. I have found a lot of gluten-free crockpot recipes. But I'm still looking for other things. (I hate to cook - or clean up afterwards). Something like this would make a great Christmas gift. ...
  9. The fact sheet on the The University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research website says that untreated Celiac patients show the long term effects of Celiac can lead to intestinal lymphoma. Health Link says that symptoms of celiac disease may include seizures. (Which I experienced prior to being diagnosed). I am sorry for all that you are going...
  10. Clan Thompson has a free download of gluten free medication. It might be mentioned there if it is gluten-free. The best way to know for sure is to contact the manufacturer. Cindy
  11. Clan Thompson lists Swanson Natural Goodness Chicken Broth on their Gluten Free list. Cindy
  12. I was in Italy last year (before I was diagnosed). The public toilets are actually holes in the ground that you have to "squat over". Maybe "loo" is the Brittish pronunciation of "low". Cindy
  13. Dani - Foul smelling urine could be from urine that has been sitting in your bladder for a while (such as overnight). You might want to try drinking more water, not only to dilute the urine, but to go to the bathroom more frequently. This also relates to mookie03's reply about dehydration. Just a suggestion... Cindy
  14. I have posted information about hair loss somewhere else, but I don't know where. When I was getting out of the shower, the front of me would be covered in hair. This started happening before I was diagnosed with Celiac. I asked my doctor about it, and he suggested that I take Zinc and Selenium. They are found in the vitamin aisle. I guess that these...
  15. The Boles falls into the category that I wrote about earlier. If you are careful about the length of cooking time and rinse the starch off well. It's not bad...But not as good as the Tinkyada. Cindy
  16. I hate to cook!! Even more, I hate to clean up!! Reynold's now had a slow cooker liner, that you can put in your crock pot and just pull out and throw away when you're done. I'm looking for some crock pot recipes. It is really wonderful to use the crock pot now, because I have leftovers that I can pack up and bring for quick lunches. Does anyone...
  17. What a good gift idea! The only thing is, I would like to ask for books on quick and easy gluten free cooking. I hate to cook, so if you have any suggestions that don't involve getting "special" foods that you only can get from health food stores, I would like to know about them! I have been using the crockpot a lot more now. Reynold's even makes slow...
  18. Hi - and welcome to the board! I have found a great resource here and wonderful support. I have only been diagnosed for 7 months, and have learned almost everything about Celiac that I have here. I suffered from a few of bouts of prolonged diarrhea and weight loss a couple of times in the past 4-5 years. Colonoscopy's showed nothing. Over...
  19. I agree agout the Tinkyada pasta. My 17 year old, non celiac son enjoyed eating dinner with me for the first time in I don't know how long. I made the 14 oz. package and had dinner for the two of us. I packed the leftovers in individual bowels, and had lunch all week! I did have to keep adding more sauce because the pasta absorbed a lot of it. ...
  20. When I first read the subject, I thought about the Humpback of Notre Dame . It's early, I guess I'm not totally awake yet...(or glutened). I didn't mean to make fun of you...I hope you have a good sense of humor. The comment was meant to be funny. It could be related to your thyroid. I would get it checked out if I were you. Good luck...

    ARCHIVED Bone Health

I broke my ankle two years ago (December 8, 2003). I just had my third surgery for it. It never healed right. I continued to have a lot of swelling and pain. I wasn't diagnosed with Celiac until 6 months ago. I had a bone density test a few years ago, which did show that I have Osteopenia. I am currently taking Fosimax, which is supposed to help...
  22. I also keep a back scratcher handy, because my 17 year old son doesn't want to touch my back to scratch it. If I am really desperate, I will use a pair of scissors or a letter opener. I also have an itchy belly, but I can scratch that myself (as long as I don't get caught - people at work think I'm crazy enough already - I have to watch it with the letter...

    ARCHIVED Fast Food

I ate at Wendy's today. I ordered a Jr. Cheeseburger, no bun with lettuce, and a baked potato. It is a good thing that I had a good look at the food preparation area from the counter. The food preparer was not wearing gloves. She was picking up rolls with her hands, putting them on the wrappers, using tongs to pick up the meat, and then using her...
  24. My Gastroenterologist was thrilled that I gained back some of the weight that I had lost prior to being diagnosed. He said that it meant that my body was now retaining the nutrients that it was not prior to going gluten-free. Now after being gluten-free for 6 months, I have gained back the 30 pounds that I had lost - plus 10. I also am on Lexipro,...
  25. Health Valley makes Corn Crunch-Ums and Rice Crunch-Ums cereal. They taste like Chex. I can buy this at my local health food store.
