  1. I would say no, however, I developed a peanut allergy at age 39 and was told by both the e/r doctor (had to go for allergice reacion, first one in my life) and by the allergist that the body changes, and changes often. People can develop allergies at any age, and the body can also change and someone can no longer have allergic reactions to things. My...
  2. Hello All, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease 4 weeks ago. I haven't posted in this group because I do not have children. I am writing today b/c my 12 year old niece was just diagnosed. When I heard her symptoms, I urged her parents to have her tested, and lo and behold she's positive for Celiac. Getting this diagnosis was different for me -...
  3. HC, Things really will improve. In a little over four weeks my symptoms are reduced. It can take many months for them to completely go away (I am told) but you will see and feel the change. My stomach cramping went away rather quickly, and that was the most painful symptom for me. Sometimes I'd be doubled over... Hang in there!!
  4. One of my happiest moments after beingi diagnosed with Celiac was finding out that I could still have my Cape Cod 40% less fat kettle cooked potato chips. Love those things. I buy the small bags so I don't overindulge, but like someone above me said -- chips are often the only thing you can find when you're out that is gluten free. I used to love pretzels...
  5. Agreed. This place really did save me. I was ready for despair, and found you all and my outlook changed almost immediately. Thank you AGAIN!!!!
  6. Just an FYI, I called Costco today and confirmed that their mesquite BBQ chicken wings are in fact gluten free (so is their rotisserie chicken.) In case anyone wants/needs to know. And.... they're delicious!
  7. I have a peanut intolerance to begin with, but I can tell you that I've had the honey roasted cashews with no issues (so far at least.)
  8. I'm so glad I didn't buy that bread! I haven't been back to Trader Joe's yet. I ended up getting some Schar bread from Fairway Market. (They didn't have the Canyon one that everyone seems to really like) I too hope Trader Joe's empty shelves weren't a sign of anything. Maybe there was just a delivery problem. I wish I could get into making my own...
  9. I've only been gluten free for a month now, but have dined out. Outback Steakhouse - I know a few of you have mentioned it already - but just want to say how SAFE I felt dining there. Even the server knew my meal was gluten free which means the waitress told the chef who told the server. Pizzeria Uno's - was very impressed with the options and with...
  10. Thank you! I'm glad I didn't buy it. I was temped which is why I picked it up, and I almost dropped it b/c it was so hard and heavy! I will stick to Udi's which I happen to like very much.
  11. Found it! (finally!) It was Food For Life Brown Rice Bread.
  12. Unfortunately I can't remember the brand name for the life of me. It was a clear bag with pink and white design on it. I've tried to google to find the logo, but no luck so far. I'm still looking.
  13. I went to Trader Joe's last night and GASP, they were out of the Udi's white bread. All they had was brown rice bread, and I have to say, I picked it up and it felt like two bricks, so I didn't buy it. I figured I'd ask here if anyone's tried it before I buy it. Anyone? Thanks
  14. Thank you all for your replies When I first got diagnosed I felt really lost until I found this forum. Michael, the first thing I did was research, research, research. The more you know about gluten, and especially what ingredients it is hiding in, the better armed you are to keep it out of your stomach! I went to see a nutritionist twice, and am constantly...
  15. Exactly! The 'gluten allergy' part was annoying, but the article itself isn't terrible and explains things better than the Kansas article. There was a similar article in the Chicago Tribune, but it had less info than this one did. I think I would just be interested in taking something like this if I was going to be somewhere with a major risk of CC...
  16. I found this article which is slightly more helpful with regards to company name, etc. Open Original Shared Link However, I'm still skeptical as are the rest of you.
  17. I was diagnosed a month ago and am still somewhat reeling. I have always been a label reader, now I'm just looking for gluten/wheat/barley/rye/farina/etc in addition to everything I was looking for prior to this. I purchased this book: Open Original Shared Link to use as a guide. If something's in this book, then I look to purchase it but still check...
