ARCHIVED What Can I Do With Buckwheat Breakfast Cereal?
BelleVie replied to BelleVie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I did try! But it just has this yucky consistency that I don't like at all. Too mushy-like. Maybe I added too much water! -
So, update on this. I did the baking soda/vinegar thing for about two months. At first, it was great! My hair was healthy and shiny and I loved it. But as time went on, it got clumpy and greasy and nothing seemed to help. I REALLY wanted no shampoo to work for me, but it just didn't. I tried homemade stuff with castile soap, but that left my hair a grease...

HOORAY!!!! I know that feeling of, "Wow, that's an impressive, healthy poo. Yay me." LOL. -
ARCHIVED If I Don't Opt For Formal Diagnosis?
BelleVie replied to PointBlankGluten's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I agree GFinDC. No need to cause a terrible outbreak. That being said IF the OP has a slip up and accidentally has a break out of the rash, it might be a good idea to get it biopsied. -
ARCHIVED Lattes And Cappuccino
BelleVie replied to answerseeker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
However, I DO know that we often interchanged pumps for syrups, using the caramel one that had been washed and switching it to the chocolate one, for example. Washing gets most of the syrup out of the pump, but not all. That could be a source of cross contamination, but it's a risk that I typically take when I go out. Ain't nobody taking my Starbucks away... -

Yes, thank you for that. I would like to know the source of this idea as well. GretaJane, do you have a history of working at Starbucks, maybe? I've spent many years working in coffee shops, and never would have used a vacuum cleaner of any kind to get coffee grounds out of a pot. -
ARCHIVED Now Foods Supplements
BelleVie replied to BelleVie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you, Irish. It's just magnesium and calcium, 100%. But it's powdery…so I'm suspicious, lol. I did feel unwell yesterday from something. I think I'll take a few days off and then try again. -
ARCHIVED Now Foods Supplements
BelleVie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anyone had problems with these seeming like they may be contaminated? They are made in a GMP facility that DOES produce allergens, including gluten, but I took a gamble because their pricing is generally good. I did some magnesium/calcium in powdered form this morning mixed into my juice and I immediately felt flushed and just "off," but I'm not sure... -

I actually think that it's a good idea to get your nutrient levels and bone density checked, even if you are feeling well. I didn't think I'd have too many issues, but my nutrient tests showed very low vitamin D. Had I not taken that test, I wouldn't be on supplements now. Also, because I had a diagnosis, I went ahead with a DEXA scan to check my bone density... -
ARCHIVED Natural Approach To Increasing Bone Density/help With Reading Results
BelleVie replied to BelleVie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Funnily enough, leaving the grocery store this evening I slipped on a patch of ice and fell hard right on my bum. Sigh. After all that care not to fall down. Thankfully, I think I'll just have a pretty bruise. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have Problems With Soda?
BelleVie replied to Tree03's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, it could be the acidity in the soda irritating you. Or the carbonation. My boyfriend and his mom both can't stand anything carbonated. It causes bad stomach pain for them. -

Oh thank you all so much for responding. I'm glad to know other people have avoided the pharmaceutical route as well. Desperateladysaved, I like what you said about not eating foods for entertainment. That's a good way of thinking of it. I don't do that too often, though I have really been enjoying this Ghiradelli hot chocolate that my mom mailed to... -

Also, just wondering if there any dancers out there who would know if it's okay to dance on pointe? I dance, and I'm wondering if I should stop dancing pointe because of the added stress on my feet. I definitely don't want to fracture anything! -
ARCHIVED Need Support And Motivation
BelleVie replied to aleshae16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
From someone who struggled with severe anxiety and depression for a very long time, getting off the gluten DOES HELP, but you have to be firm. You have to commit to it. There's no "maybe." You make a choice and you stick to it. You make it work. As far as getting tired of eating the same kinds of foods, I doubt that you're tired of those foods in particular... -
ARCHIVED Natural Approach To Increasing Bone Density/help With Reading Results

Hi everyone. Hope I'm posting this in the correct forum. I had a DXA scan done last week and got the results today, and the doctor told me I have extremely low bone density in my lower back. From what I understand, if your T score is -2.5 or more, that puts you in the category for a diagnosis of osteoporosis, is that right? Mine was -2.6, with a Z score... -
ARCHIVED Favorite gluten-free Cracker?

These Van's crackers are YUMMY. Open Original Shared Link I just got a box and…well…now I'm short one box. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Deal With The "haters"?
BelleVie replied to Glittersmith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with W8in4dave. People just don't know. It doesn't make it okay that they react like ***hats, but normally when people act like that, I choose to feel sorry for them. I'm sorry that they have so much anger inside that MY diet is somehow offensive to them. I'm sorry that they are so reactionary that they let something small like that get them in a... -
ARCHIVED Going To A Korean Restaurant Tonight

Good. Bibimbap was what I was going to suggest. Just make sure you don't eat the red pepper paste! (I am hoping you didn't!) -
Thank you so much for coming here and sharing.

ARCHIVED What Can I Do With Buckwheat Breakfast Cereal?
BelleVie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bought the Bob's Red Mill buckwheat bran, that is supposed to be something like oatmeal, but I ate some this morning and was thoroughly yucked out by it. Does anybody know what I can do with the rest? Any good pancake recipes that I could use it for? Or maybe muffins? -
True, but I'm pretty sure I CAN get glutened if the forty kids at school eat cookies and then run their little hands over EVERYTHING, and then I open a door, then sit down at my desk and grab a quick snack and eat it.
-
Haha, don't feel silly about asking it. I have asked lots of crazy questions too, like can I get glutened from touching a light switch or a door handle at the school where I work? I'd think a fly would be a long shot! No worries.

ARCHIVED Ridiculous Conversations
BelleVie replied to Auntie-Manda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Haha, I wish, but no, I don't think so. I told her that it would make me sick, and she said, "Not if you mom makes it for you!" Ahh….I find it more funny than anything. Though I have gotten frustrated with my mom because she hasn't really made any effort to understand. That kind of stinks. But it is what it is, I'm not losing sleep over it. -
ARCHIVED Ridiculous Conversations
BelleVie replied to Auntie-Manda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just had to share a funny conversation that I had today. I was texting my mom and talking about how I've been sick the past week or so, and she asked me, "Why don't you just come back to the U.S. where celiac will be easier to deal with?" And I start to think "Hey! Maybe my mom is getting it! She's really getting this whole celiac thing and being... -
I think it is different for everyone. For me, I start to feel a little bit "off" about ten or fifteen minutes after I start eating, and usually I get chills and I get what I call "the doom feeling," which is a sudden feeling in my gut that says "Oh no, something terrible is going to happen. This isn't right." Then I get really, really tired and sort of weak...
