  1. And yes, honey is sugar, but I think that raw honey is supposed to have antibacterial properties. That's what I've read anyway.
  2. Yes, when I was in college studying abroad in France, I had one that lasted about three months off and on, but I was so out of touch with my body, I had no idea what it was, just that it HURT. I think that sugar intake has a lot to do with it. Sugar creates an acidic environment in your body, and that helps the bacteria that cause UTIs and yeast infections...
  3. Thank you for your kind replies, everyone. I'm feeling much better today. YES, it was definitely a bad day on top of getting glutened, and probably on top of some PMS symptoms as well. I really hadn't considered getting my hormone levels checked, but it's something I will look into. I guess I would do that through my gynecologist? I think that I probably...
  4. Hi. This is really just me needing to let off some steam, and knowing that this is a place where I won't be judged...at least not too harshly. I got glutened today by some cacao powder (that's my best guess), or it might have been from the kids at school grabbing me and trying to touch my face, or maybe by one of them coughing in my face after eating a...
  5. Oooh I love the olive oil idea!! Gonna try that soon! Along the lines of natural things, I made home made lip balm yesterday and it turned out beautifully. Here's the recipe: Open Original Shared Link
  6. Wow, this makes me feel as if I was there too! So glad you had such a wonderful time.
  7. Oh I forgot! Lately I've started putting in 2 tablespoons of baking soda for one and a quarter cups of water, plus one drop each of lavender oil, mint oil, and rosemary oil. My hair smells SOOO good.
  8. That makes me really happy to hear. I read the other day that the average woman uses something like 125 potential cancer causing chemicals per day in her beauty routine.
  9. Just wondering. I went CF last week and have had some odd issues popping up here and there and am wondering if there will be a detox period similar to what one can have when first removing gluten.
  10. So, Adelaide, do you scrub your scalp really well, or do you just let the baking soda soak and then rinse?
  11. nvsmom, my hair has always been super oily too, but I've found that minus the dairy and gluten, the oil has gotten a lot better, and once my hair adjusted, my scalp stopped producing so much excess sebum. I'm on week 3 of the adjustment period. My hair is still oily, but it has definitely improved. I hope it keeps getting better.
  12. Hi Abby, I had the same problem. Someone recommended that I check the protein content of my meals, which were previously veggie, low-protein based, and that has helped. I try to keep away from grains and legumes in the afternoons too. It seems that beans and rice make me feel really sleepy. Someone else also recommended taking a B12 supplement, which has...
  13. Thanks folks! Laura TX, I have an egg replacement product that I can use that acts as a binding agent. I will give this a try!
  14. 4 years? Seriously? Wow, this is like a rabbit hole.
  15. I think so. I think you're supposed to do one final rinse with a clarifying shampoo to get all of the chemical goo out of your hair, and then from there you let it recover back to it's normal, sans shampoo state. My hair has always been really oily at the roots, and it was oily for about a week, but now it's starting to normalize. And no vinegar smell! It...
  16. It's been about two months since I went strictly gluten-free, and I've still been sick pretty consistently. Things are getting a littttle bit better, but still not where I'd like to be. I'm certain that none of my food is CCed, as I cook mostly fresh veggies, and for processed things I try to use only gluten-free certified. But I work at a kindergarten...
  17. We talk a lot on here about whether or not our shampoos and such are safe, but I'm wondering if any of you have given "no poo" a try? I am on my 8th day, and I'm actually REALLY pleased with it. "No poo" is a way of washing hair that uses very basic ingredients. I use baking soda and water to wash, and I condition with apple cider vinegar and essential oils...
  18. I'm a vegetarian but I am craving that savory, meaty texture that you can't really get with just veggies. I'd really like to make a veggie burger of sorts, maybe using walnuts as a base? Anybody out there with a recipe?
  19. I'm considering it too! But I love the full feeling that I get from eating grains. I feel like eating veggies never makes me feel as satisfied as a bowl of veggies AND rice.
  20. Absolutely. I hope you feel better soon.
  21. Have you tried taking Omega 3/ Fish oil supplements? My boyfriend's mother has really bad joint pain that is hormonal, I think, but she says that the omega supplements really do wonders.
  22. Really? I had no idea! Isn't there such a thing as "baby aspirin"? Is is that the aspirin content in excederin is too high? Thanks for telling me!
  23. Thank you. That makes me feel that I'm NOT crazy. Since being diagnosed, I am trying hard not to blame every single twinge and headache on gluten. Ah, although most often it's the cause. Ha!
  24. No, I didn't see it, but I will check it out for sure!
  25. I thought so, too, but I was shocked at the quickness of the reaction. Five minutes seemed way too fast for flour particles to travel into my nose or throat and into my tummy/intestines. Hm. Well, I definitely won't be going back into bakeries anymore!
