ARCHIVED Am I Really Celiac?
BelleVie replied to Nick-incollege's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, I should note that the beer was an issue due to celiac, obviously, but I have had the same problem with all forms of alcohol, gluten free or not. -
ARCHIVED Am I Really Celiac?
BelleVie replied to Nick-incollege's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be a lot of things, but I think that if you are drinking pretty consistently, that could be causing a lot of stress to your body. Your body is already trying to heal from the damage caused by celiac, so I imagine if you are drinking fairly often, you are placing stress on your liver and immune system. I know that for me, I could drink just fine in... -
ARCHIVED 1St Holiday Season After Dx - How Did You Feel/do/cope?
BelleVie replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that if you take your own food and someone expresses to you that they are disappointed or insulted, you look them in the eyes and very firmly, but kindly say, "I'm very sorry, but my body is very sick right now. I NEED to eat only foods that I've prepared." Don't make a scene, don't be angry or cruel about it…just be firm. I know it sucks, and I g... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With The Emotional Aspects Of Ai Disease
BelleVie replied to BelleVie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Colleen, my diet is going well as far as me keeping my end of the bargain, but I keep having accidents with the foods that I am eating, like I did with the contaminated rice. Lately I've had some new, sort of bothersome symptoms, like vertigo and a different kind of headache, that I'm not sure are gluten related or not. bburmeister, thank you so much... -

Thanks so much for the replies, everyone. I will respond more to this thread later when I have some time, but I just wanted to tell you guys that you are wonderful and, are so compassionate, and I feel really lucky that I stumbled upon this forum. Last night, I got a good night's sleep and am feeling much better this morning. Pity party is done! Thanks for... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With The Emotional Aspects Of Ai Disease
BelleVie replied to BelleVie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Aw gee, thanks Colleen. I could not remember who had recommended that to me, but it has helped, especially when I start to have my freak outs at work! Exercise is something I'd like to get involved with again, but it's been unrealistic this year with my health and my job. (I work from 9 to 6:30 with no breaks..eek…so I'm very, very tired when I get home.)... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With The Emotional Aspects Of Ai Disease
BelleVie replied to BelleVie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not at all, thank you so much for the response! There's an open door to my pity party. Please, pull up a chair. It makes me feel less alone. It's hard. Even when you have a partner, they still don't *quite* get it all the way. I've not been home yet for the holidays with celiac, but I am trying to imagine how it will be when I go visit in April. My family... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With The Emotional Aspects Of Ai Disease

It feels like we talk a lot on here about dealing with the physical aspects of celiac, but I'm curious as to how you all deal with the emotional aspects? Lately, it's really been hitting me deeply with the realization that i'm going to have to deal with this every day for the rest of my life, and that sometimes, even though I seem to be doing everything right... -

I agree. Some people are lucky to have a partner who gets it, but some people have a really tough time with significant others. I'm so glad I was already in a relationship when I was diagnosed. I think gluten free dating sounds very difficult! Lol. It just seems awkward…"I want to kiss you…" "Hang on a second, I'm going to need you to floss and brush. Is... -
ARCHIVED First Gluten, Now Lactose (Noooo!)
BelleVie replied to eers03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm still kind of confused about casein intolerance. I cut out dairy and casein because I was having some weird rashes/head spaciness issues that I now know were linked to dairy consumption. A forum member told me that for some people, casein is like gluten, and once you are intolerant, it may always be that way, but then it's also possible that the intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Did Anyone See The New Study Published About Gluten In Orthodontic Materials?
BelleVie replied to BelleVie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good to know. Thanks! I thought about it and figured if there was an issue with my guard, I wouldn't be getting better, and, except for the few oopsies I've had here and there, my good days have slowly begun to outnumber my bad. Hooray! -
ARCHIVED Really Sick And Wondering If It Is Contaminated Rice
BelleVie replied to BelleVie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lol thank you! It's not a huge deal, it's just that my online grocery shopping bill is mysteriously (heh, or not) getting higher and higher every month. But that headache was such a doozy, I lost four whole days. Awful, awful. I won't be going near the rice here again. Which is a shame, 'cuz it's such a cheap staple here! -
ARCHIVED Feeling Left Out.
BelleVie replied to bburmeister0407's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was sort of afraid of that at first too, but then I realized that it's my health, my safety at risk, and if the place that I'm in has a problem with that…well…I don't really care. If I'm out with people, I normally order a drink or something, at least. I don't think anyone would consider it loitering if you are with other people. Now, if you were by ... -

ARCHIVED First Gluten, Now Lactose (Noooo!)
BelleVie replied to eers03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is a really common issue with a lot of celiacs. I recall my time in college when I worked in a coffee shop. I would often drink coffee drinks made with milk, topped with whipped cream. EEK. Gassy. Yes. It was not pleasant! The good news for you is that once your gut has healed, you will very likely be able to enjoy dairy products again in the future... -

ARCHIVED Really Sick And Wondering If It Is Contaminated Rice
BelleVie posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi everyone. Well, I'm on day four of a terrible reaction, which for me, includes a pounding migraine that refuses to go away. I've also been having severe knee pain and joint pain, and shooting pains in my muscles. I thought it was some red pepper flakes that were made in China that made me sick, but last night I went to a Thanksgiving potluck at a friend... -
ARCHIVED Is The gluten-free Diet Making Me Stupid?
BelleVie replied to C-Girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Also, Excedrin Migraine is my wonder drug for migraines. I know it's hard on your body, but when you have a migraine, you will do just about anything to escape from it. -
ARCHIVED Is The gluten-free Diet Making Me Stupid?
BelleVie replied to C-Girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Try taking a B vitamin complex. One of the forum members recommended it to me, and it has helped enormously. Also, it takes time to recover, even if all of your vitamin levels seem to be okay. My only issue with my bloodwork was low vitamin D, but for the first two months of gluten free, I was exhausted, depressed, weepy, and felt like crap. I kept thinking... -
ARCHIVED Just Glutened Myself At Work. Assumed It Was Gluten Free. Upset For Not Asking!
BelleVie replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dave…ARE you crazy?! Be careful! I'm recovering from an episode involving (I think) crushed red pepper produced in China. But who knows how on earth that could have been contaminated. I'm on day three, which is headache day, so by tomorrow I should be feeling relatively normal. Yuck yuck yuck. Flour is evil. Evil, I tell ya!! ;-) -

Aw, that really stinks! But it happens. Don't beat yourself up about it. I hope you are feeling better now! -
I do egg washes too, sometimes! It's funny that you warned about not rinsing in hot water. I did that the first time. Needless to say…I had scrambled eggs in my hair for the rest of the day. Lol.

Irish Heart, I was hoping you would chime in. And I was pretty sure that your response would be something along those lines. Thanks. Powerofpositivethinking, sorry for re-posting this, I hadn't realized it was already being discussed. Adalaide, I can definitely see how that might have been the case with the little girl. I'm pretty sure my dental hygiene... -

Open Original Shared Link Do you think it's something to worry about? I don't want to be crazy crazy, but I do have to sleep in a bite guard, and will have to continue sleeping in it for the rest of my life. What do you think? Is gluten in retainers and bite guards an issue? Or, because it's solid and you aren't likely to be chipping bits off to eat,...
