  1. Lol, I guess I hadn't considered the different varieties. Fair enough.
  2. Oh, thanks for educating me on that. I assumed that because it was a pizza place that there'd be flour floating around everywhere!
  3. the kinnikinnick frozen glazed donuts are pretty darn good. if nobody told me, i'd never know they were gluten free!
  4. Oh, also, I just read the greatest thing by W8in4dave. She said that she tells naysayers that eating gluten is like eating poison ivy. That image certainly resonated with me. Maybe it will with you as well, and will help you to say no to your cravings. I think it has to be mind over matter, and if gluten makes you ill enough, you will come to a day where...
  5. Yes, gluten can cause anxiety. After diagnosis and going 100% gluten free, my "depression" and anxiety that I'd suffered with for years disappeared. If you are having really strong cravings to fatty or sweet things, it is likely that your body is lacking some nutrients. Do you like green smoothies? Try eating as many greens as possible, every day. I...
  6. Hmm, I like that "it's like eating poison ivy!" It sure is! I think I'll be using that one to explain this to my family. I'm going home for a visit in a few months and am already dreading the fights that will no doubt come from my mother saying "Oh, come on, you're being ridiculous." Sigh.
  7. No, no, I don't think it's out there at all. I'm a bit familiar with it. My blood type seems to do better on a vegetarian diet, haha. But I think a bit of meat from time to time may be a good thing. We'll see. Thank you for the link!
  8. Thanks to everyone for the detailed replies. Coconutkris, I have been all over the dietary spectrum, and was even a 100% raw foodist for almost a year. At that time, I felt great and was convinced that meat was the devil, but now I know it's probably because I was unintentionally eating gluten free! Funny how things work out. 1956- I hope eggs can be...
  9. Has anyone done this? I've been a vegetarian for more than five years, but things are so limited now, I'm contemplating putting meat back into my diet. But I'm afraid of the effects it will have on my body, and I also feel really guilty about it. My reasons for vegetarianism are for both health and ethical reasons. But for the past few months I've been having...
  10. Thank you IrishHeart. Alas I am not going to be able to see my family this year on Thanksgiving, but I'll be going to dinner at a friend's house and will certainly keep in mind all of your advice.
  11. Hi Macmuireadhaigh, it was before my diagnosis. I noticed it from time to time before, but didn't put it together until I started doing research into food intolerances in trying to figure out what was wrong with me. Like I said, I haven't been diagnosed with any allergies, so I'm assuming the metallic taste in my mouth was due to gluten intolerance. At any...
  12. Boyfriend and I just had Thai mussels over rice: 3 lbs fresh mussels 2 tbs olive or coconut oil 1/2 c. chopped green onions 5 cloves minced garlic 1 can of prego/similar pasta sauce 1 tbs minced ginger juice of 1/2 lime 1/2 tsp cayenne lemon grass stalk, cut in 3 inch long strips 1.5 cups of coconut milk 1 tbs braggs or liquid aminos 1/4 c...
  13. Celiac, I'm pretty sure. I don't have any allergies that I'm aware of.
  14. As far as the cause of your constipation, I wouldn't know what to tell you. But (and sorry if this is too forward, folks!) enemas work miracles for me when I am constipated. You can get them at any drug store for a very low price. The instructions are inside. It's incredibly easy and ALWAYS works for me when I have problems going. I hope that helps you! ...
  15. One of the many symptoms of a food intolerance is getting a metallic taste in the mouth after eating the offending food. I used to get a similar taste in my mouth after eating baked goods.
  16. I'm with you moosemalibu, I've had a paragard for six years now. Love it. WinterSong, I have heard both that Mirena causes cysts and that it can help to prevent cysts, so I guess you would have to talk to your doctor about it. I had cysts before as well, and once I got completely off hormones, they stopped occurring, with the exception of one, which was a...
  17. LOL.
  18. This morning, I put the following into my rice cooker: about 2 cups of beans, a jar of Prego pasta sauce, a tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 tbs chili, 1 tsp cumin powder, 1/2 tsp cayenne, a teensy dash of cinnamon, salt, pepper, diced sweet potato, onion, garlic, and chopped red pepper…then flipped it on and had an awesome pot of veggie chili ready when I g...
  19. I have found that in addition to gluten causing brain fog, sugar spikes can cause it as well. If I eat something very starchy, like potatoes or a cup of sweet tea, I often feel brain-foggy very quickly. You might try limiting your carbohydrates for a while to see if that helps the problem. I hope you feel better soon! Brain fog is just AWFUL.
  20. And then do you just grind up the nibs into powder when you need something that requires it?
  21. I felt vindicated, because I'd been sick for so long, and had been referred to as a hypochondriac by my family for so long. It was proof to me that I wasn't nuts. Lately, I've been getting a bit angry because now I'm discovering secondary intolerances. I'm fine with no gluten, but it's a lot more difficult when other foods become off limits. I've been a...
  22. I had already tried the Now Foods brand and had the same reaction, but I think their stuff is made on shared equipment so it may have been a CC issue. Anyway, I'm going to order some dark chocolate bars and try those and see what happens. Man, I hope it's not the chocolate! That will definitely be the last stand! Thanks for your input, Laura and Cyclinglady...
  23. I have had two very bad reactions now to Dagoba cacao powder, and I'm trying to figure out if it's a gluten reaction or if maybe my body doesn't like chocolate these days. (PLEASE NO!) It certainly feels like my standard gluten reaction, though. The official website for Dagoba states that all products are gluten free, but Jane Anderson's article on about...
  24. StephanieL, I'm avoiding because of the casein protein. I'm not allergic to dairy. Thank you for your responses! I will probably not be incorporating ghee into my diet.
