  1. Hi! I just wanted to let anyone know who is interested in the timing of gluten challenges that after being gluten free for 9 months, I did a 6 week gluten challenge and got the results of my biopsy this morning which showed slight villous atrophy and increased lymphocytes. My TtG test, however, was negative, which I expected. During the challenge, I ate a...
  2. Thank you all very much.
  3. G'day to all. A while back I posted about my frustrations with looking for a doctor in Asia, and was excited to find one a couple of months ago. When my boyfriend and I moved to Asia in February, I got sick sick sick, and was pretty much ill until recently. After finishing my gluten challenge last Monday, I decided to be extremely strict with my diet, eating...
  4. You know, I used to have this too! I googled as well, "sweet-smelling stool," and couldn't find anything about it. I noticed mine most distinctly after having beer, so I don't know if it had anything to do with that. It seemed to stop once I went gluten free, though I had a few too many ciders one night and had the same thing the next morning. Was it the...
  5. Hi everyone. Since my endoscopy on Monday I've been having pain and stiffness in my jaw joints. I suffered from extreme TMJ pain years ago, which I managed with a nightly antispasmodic and a special-made bite guard that I sleep in. Can anyone recommend a gluten-free antispasmodic medication that I can request from my doctor? Thank you.
  6. I am also very angry and moody when I get glutened, and it's a total jekyl and hyde thing. I'm normally very calm, focused, and nice, but if I ingest gluten, I suddenly turn into a crazy person with irrational outbursts of anger. I call it the "gluten furies." I have found that cranking up some loud music and going for an "angry run" really helps to get...
  7. I completely understand that stuffy nose part. I was a mouth breather all through my childhood, but didn't realize it until my sister pointed it out to me. I made an effort to start breathing through my nose, but it felt like I was suffocating! Went on a raw foods diet a few years ago, and lo and behold, could suddenly breathe just fine through my nose, except...
  8. You could try taking oil of oregano for the acne. My acne was mostly related to gluten, but I took the oregano oil to help along the healing. It's supposed to be really good for killing off yeast in your system as well. I take two capsules, three times per day whenever I have a yeast and/or acne flare up. Also, be sure that you are drinking plenty of water...
  9. So Scarletgrrrl, your biopsy was positive? I had my biopsy today and am now nervously awaiting the results, after doing a six week challenge! I'm SO glad to have that over with!
  10. Hm, interesting, I just realized that this post is WAY old. Oops! Well, there you are, for anyone who is interested.
  11. I'm with you, Kelly. I've never been a huge fan of sweets, but man oh man do I adore some genuine French pain aux chocolats!! Actually, I saw a gluten-free recipe for croissants somewhere today. I'll see if I can hunt it down and share!
  12. Ah, thanks for the replies, folks! PowerofPositiveThinking, I have until the 29th of July, so I'm almost there!
  13. Edit "thank goodness for him" means that I am grateful for him. Not that things would be worse for him if he didn't understand. Haha.
  14. I'm four and a half weeks into a gluten challenge, and today, after eating a sandwich for lunch, I absolutely ERUPTED in a dark explosion of anger. I work in a kindergarten, so I had to try and contain, but it was so bad that I had to go to the bathroom, do a few air punches, silently scream, and then break down crying. The trigger? My boyfriend was talking...
  15. Hi there. I live in Korea, and the only food that is safe for me is bibimbap, but even that may not be safe with cross contamination issues. Red pepper paste/gojuchang is not gluten free. I don't know of any brands of it that are gluten free. A lot of Korean products that are sweetened are sweetened with barley syrup as well, so be on the lookout for that...
  16. How weird that I stumbled upon this this morning. I don't know if what I have would classify as foot "problems" exactly, but I have noticed since starting the gluten challenge that every morning when I get out of bed, my feet are extremely tender until I can "walk off the pain." After that, they feel okay for the rest of the day. As far as diagnosing...
  17. Does anyone know? I'm just wondering. I've been trying to narrow down what could be causing this in my blood work, if it turns out to not be gluten. Also, does anyone know if candida can cause lactose intolerance? It just occurred to me that, while I've been working for a long time from the gluten hypothesis, it is possible that candida could have been...
  18. Hi lovechild, Bananas really were causing major problems for me. The only reason I finally figured it out was because one day I took paleo banana muffins to work, ate two for breakfast, and then could barely keep my eyes open I was so "gluten tired." But I knew there was no gluten. So I tried again later. Ate more muffins. Same reaction. Tried once more...
  19. Greenbeanie, just curious, did you do a blood test at the end of your 6 weeks as well? Have you gotten the results, if so? I had some other blood work done recently that showed very high lymphocytes, which are associated with autoimmune disorders. I'm wondering if my inflammation was still high after 9 months gluten free, or if it was related to something...
  20. The way I explain feeling that I get when my brain fog "turns on" is by explaining that it's as if most of my life my brain is set to a certain frequency, but as soon as the brain fog starts, it's like my brain switches to a static-filled frequency. I can literally feel the shift. It's like shhhhhhhh.....click. Different mindset. Can't focus. Can't think...
  21. Chef Steve, can I just say that my heart is warmed at the action that you are taking to ensure the safety of your students? Thank you, thank you.
  22. A while ago, I posted about how bummed out I was to not be able to find anyone in the medical community in Korea who could do celiac testing. Although the first doctor that I saw said that nobody in Korea could do endoscopic biopsies for celiac, or blood tests, I sent e-mails to the top hospitals in Seoul and was referred to a GI at one of the hospitals....
  23. Just wondering how many people suffer from odd dreams and nightmares when glutened? It's been years since I've had nightmares consistently, but since I started a gluten challenge one week ago, I've had troubling/weird/downright creepy nightmares every single night. One in particular was so horrible I haven't been able to get it out of my head and get chills...
  24. Fire Fairy, I just started a gluten challenge a week ago, and have had troubling dreams and nightmares EVERY night since. I haven't had nightmares in years! It's really interesting, because my mother has always struggled with "night terrors." I'm convinced she's celiac and am begging her to get tested! Maybe going gluten free will solve her nightmare problem...
