  1. I had stomach ulcers when I was 23. I still to this day can describe the pain. Razor blades! If you don't want/need an official diagnosis you should start gluten-free today. You sound like you could be one who has very serious outcomes from eating gluten, and there is only one way to find out (except waiting for January). But remember you are suppose...
  2. October3, You should hook up with another new member. He is 27 now but it sounds like you two could swap notes.
  3. I went through a long period feeling like this too. Man have I been hungry. Open Original Shared Link INGREDIENTS:SORBITOL, GUM BASE, GLYCEROL, MANNITOL, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS; LESS THAN 2% OF: HYDROGENATED STARCH HYDROLYSATE, SOY LECITHIN, CITRIC ACID, MALIC ACID, ASPARTAME, ACESULFAME K, ASPARTAME-ACESULFAME, COLORS (RED 40, RED 40 LAKE), BHT...
  4. Interesting attitude - why on earth would anyone want to feel this way?! I can't avoid all the bread etc in my kitchen job but there are a few things that have helped enormously. I wipe benches constantly. The place has never been so clean. Fortunately the boss has excused me from handling bread/toast so I made it my job to follow up behind the others...
  5. Unexplained stomach pains + anemia Are there any other medical conditions(even some you mightn't of thought of or been diagnosed)? Weight, height, growth/development, ADHD, teeth, other known or suspected allergies, blood noses, skin issues .. anything?
  6. Booghead, I also made a load of mistakes in the first couple of months. Don't blame yourself or your parents - in the end what is most important is that you have their support. It is really important that you and your parents get reading/educating yourselves and fast! I have to be super super strict with my food, at work, out anywhere else and...
  7. Hi Melissa and welcome. I'm not diagnosed celiac but do have (undiagnosed) DH which is clearing from being gluten-free. Your symptoms are very similar to other members of this forum. And you are genetically much more likely to develop or have celiac (I think the stat is 1 in 22 if you have close relatives diagnosed). If, as you seem to suggest, you...
  8. Hi Allen, Sorry to hear you are feeling so lousy I guess by what you have described and the fact that you are here that you suspect gluten might be a problem. You should consider keeping a diary of what you eat/drink (including brand names) and any subsequent reaction. It will be very useful when you go your GI appointment. Also take a written...
  9. What do you eat at home?
  10. Hi Roda, Thanks for your story. It is nice to hear that you and the kids are doing well. It is a hard thing to see your child in pain or distressed Given what you have said (in the post I've quoted here) I think there are probably a great many people that you have helped. They just haven't been back to thank you. So here is the big THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU...
  11. You probably should start with a doctors note?! Do you know how you got glutened? Are you eating well, plenty of fresh food otherwise? Drinking plenty of water? Are any of your family/household members gluten free also?
  12. Years ago I was with friends in Jakarta, Indonesia. One of them ordered goat soup. It came out to the table and a moment later an eyeball rose to the top of the soup. Very creepy And then we were all in hysterical belly laugh mode for the next hour No way I would have eaten that! But apparently the soup itself was okay. I'll have to ask...
  13. How was he when you eliminated the gluten? How long was he gluten free for?
  14. How long till your insurance is sorted and you can see a doctor?
  15. I am not diagnosed celiac. I am gluten sensitive/intolerant. This wasn't a symptom I had a name for at the time (I was very medical illiterate six months ago). But I was getting pretty bad before going gluten free. To be honest I couldn't even tell you when it started or finally resolved because I was a bit of a mental mess. I can tell you that nowdays I...
  16. There does seem to be a lot of us that get sad/angry/depressed around the three month mark. Just seems like it is taking forever with only small if any improvement I had to go back to basics. Meat, veg, fruit. Added ONE ingredient at a time and only one a day or every few days if I was having troubles. Makes it so so so much easier to find what works...
  17. More OMG OMG OMG .. After my six month learning journey I am recently starting to "see" people and want to tell them about gluten intolerance/sensitivity. IT IS HARD to bite your tongue. My boss is a great supporter having seen what I've been through. We've know each other for many years. I really really want to talk to him about his crazy back scratching...
  18. Not sure that anyone wants to hear this but I just can't help myself.. Tonight I have shaved my legs and under-arms for the first time in six months. I'm kinda excited. Probably a girl thing:) All the hell of head to ankle bumps and INSANE itching I can now see will have an end. I'm not sure what my mental health would have been like without this forum...
  19. footballmum, It can be very overwhelming. Hang in there. Ask LOTS more questions and test/experiment LOTS. You WILL get there. Just takes a lot of effort and energy. Keep yourself well too.
  20. I'm not a gambler. Just hope you stay safe. I know you are keen on the basics so maybe you can add the gluten to stew/casserole .. won't be to "intrusive" taste/cuisine wise, to your typical diet? I wish you luck but also will be hoping for a quick and healthy recovery.
  21. You may be Celiac if ... you lose your sense of humour for a number of days at a time.. and you are SO much more grateful than others when you get it back.
  22. OMG I don't know how you do it Roda. You are a brave soul. We need more of you in the medical world.
  23. My infections were sinus... At the end of my gluten-life (6 months ago) they were just as you described. I got sick of doctors bills and antibiotics so basically I was infected most of the year. I've been gluten-free since June.. really seriously for about the last 4 months. And no more sinus drip and infections. I have only minor hayfever (in Australia...
  24. Sandsurfgirl, Good on you! Write that letter. What is the worst that can happen? They don't respond.. Won't be a great surprise will it! You should copy these and send to the local medical board.
  25. I also think online seems to be the place to make people take notice. I think if allergy/intolerant/celiacs (especially those in the US) got together on facebook (I have yet to find any substantial groups etc but I am a novice) and started making noices on youtube etc there could be something "heard". There needs to be some serious research into the...
